  8. The EtherLink 10/100 PCI For Complete PC Management (3C905C-TX-M) NIC
  9. supports advanced features such as Remote Wake-Up, remote system alerts
  10. (heartbeat packets), and a workgroup keep-alive packet.

  12.      IMPORTANT:  These features should be configured by
  13.                  system administrators only.

  16. To configure the 3C905C-TX-M NIC's advanced features:
  17.  
  18. 1.  Install the 3Com NIC Diagnostics program for Windows.
  19.     See the user guide for instructions.
  20.  
  21. 2.  Open the Windows Start menu and select Run.
  22.  
  23. 3.  At the prompt, enter:
  24.     tcaudiag -a
  25.  
  26.     The 3Com NIC Diagnostics program starts.
  27.  
  28. 4.  Select the Configuration tab.
  29.     The advanced settings appear on the screen.  
  30.     Select a setting to configure it.
  31.  
  32.     Remote Wake-Up    
  33.     --------------
  34.       Enabled Defaults -- allows the NIC to wake up the 
  35.       PC when one of the default events is received.
  36.  
  37.       Disabled -- disables Remote Wake-Up on the NIC.
  38.  
  39.       Enabled Custom -- allows you to determine which 
  40.       events can wake up the NIC.

  43.    Workgroup Keep-Alive    
  44.    --------------------
  45.       Enabled -- a packet is sent periodically by the 
  46.       NIC to ensure that the PC's MAC address is not 
  47.       aged-out of switch forwarding tables.
  48.  
  49.       Disabled -- the workgroup keep-alive packet is
  50.       not sent by the NIC.

  53.    Alerts
  54.    ------
  55.       Enabled Custom -- allows you to determine which
  56.       remote system alerts are generated by the NIC.
  57.  
  58.       Disabled -- disables the NIC's ability to generate  
  59.       a remote system alert.
