  2.                    EtherDisk (R) Diskette for the
  3.      3C90X Fast EtherLink XL/EtherLink XL Bus Master NIC Family
  4.   Microsoft Windows 95 with Microsoft's Client for NetWare Networks
  5.  
  6. To install the Windows 95 driver to support Microsoft's client for NetWare 
  7. networks, follow these steps.
  8.  
  9. NOTE:  It is assumed that Windows 95 has already been installed.
  10.  
  11. First-Time Installation
  12. ------------------------
  13. 1.  After installing the NIC as described in the user guide, start your
  14.     computer.  When Windows 95 starts, it acknowledges the NIC, and the
  15.     following message appears on the screen:
  16.  
  17.     Windows has found new hardware and is installing software for it.
  18.     
  19.     NOTE: If Windows 95 Recognizes the NIC and starts copying files right
  20.           away then you have an existing version of the installation.  
  21.           To update your installation and the driver reboot your system
  22.           and then follow the instructions in the Updating Your Driver
  23.           section below.
  24.     
  25.     If the message above does not appear, it is likely that Plug and Play
  26.     mode has been disabled.  In this case, proceed as follows:
  27.     a.  Click the Add New Hardware icon on the control panel screen.  
  28.     b.  Continue to click next until Windows 95 asks if you want it to 
  29.         search for new hardware.  
  30.     c.  Click no and then click next.  
  31.     d.  Choose Network Adapters in the Hardware Types menu and then 
  32.         click next.  
  33.     e.  Click Have Disk... and then skip to step 3.
  34.     
  35. 2.  Select Driver from Disk Provided by Hardware Manufacturer and click OK.    
  36.  
  37. 3.  Insert the EtherDisk 2 diskette in the A: drive and click OK.
  38.  
  39. 4.  Select the NIC that you installed in your computer from the list that 
  40.     appears; then click next.  
  41.  
  42. 5.  If this is the first time you have installed a NIC on your computer,
  43.     Windows 95 may ask you to supply the computer name and workgroup
  44.     name.  If your system administrator has supplied you with this
  45.     information, use it.  If not, you can supply your own computer name and
  46.     workgroup name.
  47.  
  48. 6.  Windows now requires files from the Windows 95 installation media.
  49.     Enter the location of the media.  For example, if the
  50.     Windows 95 CD-ROM is in drive E, type:
  51.  
  52.     E:\WIN95
  53.     
  54. 7.  Click No if you are asked whether you want to reboot.
  55.  
  56. 8.  When you return to the desktop, double-click the My Computer icon, then 
  57.     Control Panel, and then Network.
  58.     
  59. 9.  You must now change the Configuration.  
  60.     The default network setup for Windows 95 Consists of the following 
  61.     five components:
  62.  
  63.     Client for Microsoft Network
  64.     Client for NetWare Networks
  65.     3Com Fast EtherLink XL 10/100Mb Ethernet NIC
  66.     IPX/SPX Compatible Protocol
  67.     NetBEUI
  68.  
  69.     Remove these two components by clicking the item and then clicking 
  70.     the Remove button. 
  71.  
  72.     Client for Microsoft Network
  73.     NetBEUI
  74.     
  75.     The network components should now only include:
  76.     
  77.     Client for NetWare Networks
  78.     3Com Fast EtherLink XL 10/100Mb Ethernet NIC
  79.     IPX/SPX Compatible Protocol
  80.  
  81. 10. If any of these components are missing, add them by clicking the 
  82.     Add button.  
  83.     Add protocols by choosing the protocol and clicking the Add button.  
  84.     In the Select Network Protocol window, choose Microsoft in the left 
  85.     pane,  in the right pane, select the protocol and click OK.  
  86.     Add clients by choosing the client and clicking the Add button.  In 
  87.     the Select Network Client window, choose Microsoft in the left pane, 
  88.     the client in the right pane, and press OK.  
  89.  
  90. 11. Click Client for NetWare Networks and then the Properties button.
  91.  
  92. 12. Under the General tab, set your Preferred Server and the First Network 
  93.     Drive.  When you have finished, click OK.
  94.     
  95. 13. Set the primary network logon to Client for NetWare Networks and click
  96.     OK.    
  97.     
  98. 14. When prompted, restart your computer.    
  99.      
  100. Hints
  101. -----
  102. 1.  If an error message appears, saying that the .INF file cannot be found
  103.     in the specified location, verify that the file actually exists. The
  104.     file should be in the root directory of the 3Com EtherDisk 2 diskette.
  105.     The filename is W95EL90X.INF.
  106.  
  107.     If it is missing, download the file from 3Com's download sites, and
  108.     make sure you expand it properly. Refer to the SUPPORT.TXT file on this
  109.     diskette for more information.
  110.  
  111. 2.  To verify that the actual NetWare driver was copied to your Windows 95
  112.     system, compare the date of the EL90X.SYS file in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  113.     directory of your hard drive with the date of the one in the \WIN32\I386
  114.     directory of the 3Com EtherDisk 2 diskette. The dates should be the same.

  116. Updating Your Driver
  117. --------------------
  118.  To update the driver and the support files follow the following 
  119.  instructions:
  120.  
  121. 1.  Open the Network Control Panel.
  122.  
  123. 2.  Click Add..
  124.  
  125. 3.  Select Adapter and Click Add.. 
  126.  
  127. 4.  Click Have Disk..
  128.  
  129. 5.  Insert the EtherDisk 2 Diskette into the A drive and click OK.
  130.  
  131. 6.  Select the NIC you have and click OK.
  132.  
  133. 7.  Remove all EtherLink XL adapters from the control panel by selecting
  134.     them one at a time and clicking Remove.
  135.     
  136. 8.  Click OK 
  137.  
  138. 9.  When Windows 95 asks the question Do you wish to reboot the system
  139.     Click YES.
  140.     
  141. 10. Go to step one of the First-Time Installation section, but when 
  142.     Windows 95 starts copying files right away do not be alarmed it
  143.     is copying the updated versions.
