  92. If you are performing a first time Windows 95 installation, see Installing 
  93. the Driver When Installing Windows 95, below.  If Windows 95 is already
  94. installed on your system, see Installing the Driver When Windows 95 is
  95. Already Installed.

  97. (NOTE:  When Windows 95 starts, if a "New Hardware Found" dialog is 
  98. displayed after installing your 7800 Family host adapter, please select 
  99. "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer".  Then insert your 
  100. Adaptec 7800 Family Manager Set v2.1x Diskette and type a:\win95 as the
  101. path; follow the succeeding on-screen instructions.)

  104. Installing the Driver When Installing Windows 95
  105. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  106.  
  107. A version of the aic78xx.mpd driver is embedded (included) in the
  108. Windows 95 installation CD-ROM.  During a normal Windows 95 installation,
  109. the 7800 Family host adapter is detected in your system and the embedded 
  110. aic78xx.mpd driver is automatically installed.  Once the Windows 95 
  111. installation is complete, you can update the aic78xx.mpd driver with the 
  112. most recent version of the driver by following the instructions in 
  113. Installing the Driver When Windows 95 is Already Installed, below.
  114.  
  115. (NOTE:  If Windows 95 installation cannot detect the 7800 Family host 
  116. adapter installed in your computer, you must install the aic78xx.mpd driver 
  117. manually once Windows 95 installation is complete.  To determine if the 
  118. aic78xx.mpd driver was installed, and to install the driver manually, see 
  119. Installing the Driver When Windows 95 is Already Installed, below.)

  122. Installing the Driver When Windows 95 is Already Installed
  123. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  125. To update or install the aic78xx.mpd driver if Windows 95 is already
  126. installed, follow these instructions:
  127.  
  128. (NOTE:  All Adaptec 7800 Family host adapters use the same aic78xx.mpd 
  129. driver.  Once the driver is updated, it is not necessary to update it again 
  130. for each 7800 Family host adapter installed in your system.)
  131.

  133.     1 Start Windows 95.
  134.  
  135.     2 Click the Start button on the Windows 95 task bar, and then
  136.       point to Settings.
  137.  
  138.     3 Click Control Panel.
  139.     
  140.     4 Double-click the System icon.
  141.     
  142.     5 On the Device Manager tab, click the plus sign next to the SCSI
  143.       controller icon.
  144.     
  145.     (NOTE:  If Windows 95 cannot determine the type of host adapter
  146.     installed in your computer, a yellow question mark labeled Other
  147.     devices appears instead of the SCSI controller icon.  To continue, 
  148.     click the plus sign next to the question mark; a yellow question
  149.     mark labelled PCI SCSI Bus Controller then appears.)

  151.     6 Double-click the 7800 Family host adapter you wish to update,
  152.       or if a yellow question mark labelled PCI SCSI Bus Controller
  153.       is displayed, double-click the question mark.
  154.     
  155.     7 Insert the Adaptec 7800 Family Manager Set v2.1x Diskette into drive A:.
  156.       
  157.     8 Select the Driver tab.
  158.     
  159.     (NOTE:  If the version of Windows 95 you are using now displays a 
  160.     window with a Update Driver button instead of a Change Driver button, 
  161.     the remainder of your install procedure is covered in Updating the 
  162.     Driver for Windows 95, Version OSR 2, described below.)

  164.     9 Click Change Driver.  You may be asked to select the hardware type;
  165.       if so, select SCSI Controllers.
  166.      
  167.    10 Click the Have Disk button and enter a:\win95 as the path.
  168.       
  169.    11 Click OK.
  170.     
  171.    12 Select the Adaptec 7800 Family host adapter, and click OK.
  172.    
  173.    13 Again, click OK.  The driver is now installed.
  174.    
  175.    14 You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.  Click 
  176.       Yes to restart your computer.  Click No to return to the system 
  177.       properties window.

  180. Updating the Driver for Windows 95, Version OSR 2
  181. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

  183. This section covers the remaining steps to updating the driver on
  184. Windows 95, version OSR 2.
  185.  
  186. (NOTE:  If you have not already done so, follow the instructions in
  187. Installing the Driver When Windows 95 is Already Installed, above.)

  189.     1 Click Update Driver.
  190.     
  191.     2 Insert the Adaptec 7800 Family Manager Set v2.1x diskette into driver 
  192.       A:.
  193.     
  194.     3 In the Update Device Driver Wizard, select Yes, and click Next.
  195.     
  196.     4 Select Other locations.
  197.     
  198.     5 Under the Location edit box, type a:\win95, then click OK.
  199.     
  200.     6 Click the Finish button.
  201.     
  202.     7 At the message "Please insert the disk labeled '7800 Family Manager 
  203.       Set v2.1x Installation Disk'."  Insert the Adaptec 7800 Family 
  204.       Manager Set v2.1x diskette and click OK.

  206.     8 Another dialog box, Copying Files, appears with the message "The file
  207.       'AIC78XX.MPD' on 7800 Family Manager Set v2.1x Installation Disk 
  208.       could not be found ...".  Type a:\win95 in the Copy Files from the 
  209.       edit box and click OK.  The driver is now installed.
  210.     
  211.     9 You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.  Click

  221. Known Issues

  223.  
  224.     o In some cases, each channel of a MultiChannel adapter must be 
  225.       updated/installed manually with the aic78xx.mpd driver on a 
  226.       freshly installed Windows 95 system. Please follow the
  227.       instructions listed under Installing the Driver When Windows 95
  228.       is Already Installed for each channel.
  229.  
  230.     o Real mode ASPI drivers from EZ-SCSI are not needed, because
  231.       Windows 95 miniport drivers support most SCSI host adapters and
  232.       SCSI devices.  However, you will need to load the ASPI drivers 
  233.       (including mscdex, if you have CD-ROM drive) if any of the following
  234.       are true: 
  235.       
  236.       o You are running in MS-DOS mode and need to access your CD-ROM 
  237.         drive.
  238.       
  239.       o You are using a scanner or another SCSI device with config.sys
  240.         or autoexec.bat based drivers, such as HP's sjiix.sys.
  241.         
  242.       o You have an older model SCSI-1 CD-ROM driver that Windows 95 does 
  243.         not support.
  244.       
  245.       o You are using a CD-Recorder drive (however, some newer models of
  246.         CD-Recorder drives can use the embedded Windows drivers).
  247.         
  248.     o Some older models of SCSI CD-ROM drives are not compatible with the 
  249.       embedded Windows 95 CD-ROM driver.  You can add support for the 
  250.       CD-ROM drive by doing the following:
  251.       
  252.       1 Make sure your ASPI real mode drivers (including aspi8dos.sys, 
  253.         aspicd.sys and mscdex.exe) are loaded and running from your 
  254.         config.sys and autoexec.bat files.  Consult your EZ-SCSI 
  255.         installation guide for more details.
  256.       
  257.       2 If step 1 did not work, find the file named cdtsd.vxd in the 
  258.         \windows\system\iosubsys directory and rename it to cdtsd.sav.
  259.         
  260.     o The mapping between mscdex, which runs in real mode, and the
  261.       Windows 95 CD-ROM driver does not match.  You can correct this in
  262.       one of two ways:
  263.       
  264.       1 Comment out the line that loads mscdex.exe in the autoexec.bat 
  265.         file.
  266.       
  267.       2 Change the /L switch on the line that loads mscdex.exe in the
  268.         autoexec.bat file so it assigns the CD-ROM drive the next highest 
  269.         logical drive letter after the hard disk drives.
