Yes, this is our latest and greatest CD, At least as of the time of writting this...grin. Anyway its copywriten 1994 GCW the interface as well as the fonts are illegal to copy or distrubute in association with anything to do with compensation. In other words the fonts may be used to make documents and support work but may not be resold as a font, just as a piece of a publication. The majority of the software here is what is called shareware, or a try before you buy. I do not think any user will register everything on the CD, BUT I do ask that you register anything you use a LOT and or use for serious buisiness purposes (that is my own feeling, if you play a game 2-3 times then I wouldn't register it, but if you play it every night for 6 months... I think the author deserves a little cash!!). Of course the official word is, look at the registration information for each product on ordering and registering and follow thier rules.
Anyway As for the instructions on the CD, Basically: Go through and find the games and programs you want to try. Then use the left mouse button (the one you normally use) to try the game/program out, or use the right button to get a description and/or install it to the hard drive.
When you install it to your hard drive, the program will default to the C:GCW directory. you can change that when installing. Inside the C:GCW directory there will be games, utils, applet, and other directories that the programs will be installed to. (In other words all of them are installed into different directories) When installing, a program group in your program manager will also be created (GCW1) where all the programs will go to. once on the hard drive, just pick up the Icon for the program from the GCW1 group and drop it into whatever group you want it in.
When working with stuff that needs extra files (for instance a WAV file player or a MID player) then just go into the directories on the CD with that stuff in it (WAV for WAV and MID for MID).
There really isn't a lot that needs to be said about running the CD. We tried to make it a little easier for all users...
When you press that little button that says run for first time use. It will install the directories on the C: drive (leaving them empty) and throw you into Video for windows setup. There are video files here that will run if installed.
There is also a generic 256 color driver from microsoft. IF you are running in 16 color mode then I suggest you install this. Go into the Main Icon Group, select windows setup, and the first option should be the video mode, change that and use unlisted driver option, when it asks where the drivers are type (cd drive):\svga or (d:\svga if d: is the cd) and select the 640/480 by 256color mode. and you are set!!!
