You can enter a comma(,) or semicolon(;) into the Display Box to indicate a pause. When you push Dial to redial the number, Phone Tone will pause for half a second when it reaches the comma or semicolon. You may find this useful if you need to dial 9 first to get an outside line. In that case, you would enter 9 and then a comma to cause Phone Tone to wait half a second for the outside dial tone before dialing the rest of the number. You can use multiple commas for longer pauses.

You may need to adjust the volume on your HPC to generate tones loud enough for your phone receiver to hear. To adjust the volume, push the Start button, select Settings, open Volume & Sounds and select the Volume tab. Slide the volume control at the left up to increase the volume. Also, make sure you have checked the check box labelled Applications under Enable sounds for: on this same tab.

You will probably find it most convenient to hold your HPC in your right hand while holding the telephone receiver in your left with the mouthpiece next to the speaker. You can use your thumb to touch the large keypad buttons or to press the Enter key. You may need to clamp the telephone mouthpiece against the HPC speaker with your right hand to insure the tones are recognized.

Phone Tone's keypad buttons are regular Windows CE buttons and they act a little different from telephone buttons. Phone Tone will generate a tone when you've touched a button and lifted the pen or your finger off the screen. Telephone buttons generate a tone when you push the button down. If you find yourself pressing your thumb against the button waiting for a tone, remember that you must lift your thumb up before the "tap" is recognized.
