  2. Getting Started Quickly:
  3. ======================================================================

  5.     Documentation is in the amiCheck.guide file.  You do not need
  6. the AmigaGuide program to follow the document (but AmigaGuide is freely
  7. available in most disk libraries).
  8.  
  9.     There is also an 18-page manual similar to the GUIDE file called
  10. amiCheck.ps.lha on the registered disk. Decompress the postscript file (the 
  11. result being "amiCheck.ps" and print to any postscript printer (on any 
  12. machine: an AMIGA, VAX, PC,MAC, etc).
  13.  
  14.     The example.AC account is for you to experiment with as you
  15. read the manual/guide file.  To bring it up, double-click on it.

  34. Welcome to version 1.35!  Here are all changes from 1.07.  Please read the last comment
  35. about the free upgrade coming to you soon.

  40. * Range menu options: clear/unclear all entries in the filter
  41.     (or void them, delete them, etc).  AC will prompt you first
  42.     since these are "dangerous".
  43.  
  44. * New "unfilter" menu option to explicitly remove a particular entry
  45.     from the filter (it doesn't get deleted!).  Note that after
  46.     doing so, any other function that must rebuild the filter will
  47.     not know this transaction was "unfiltered" (it will show up again).
  48.     For example, sorting the filtered database will do this.
  49.  
  50. * Speed improvements for very large databases (the speed is now almost
  51.     completely determined by the size of the filtered database).

  53. * slight improvement to the Net Worth GUI.

  55. * The QUICK TRANSACTIONS menu items all now bring up the data window.
  56.     A new one, Use Transaction, will bring up the data window with
  57.     the current template selection.

  60.       Clicking on the items in it will instantly bring up the data window.
  61.     Clicking on the select template button more than once will bring the
  62.     template window to the front.  The window shares the same menu as the
  63.     main window. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CLOSE IT! (but its ok if you do).

  65.     For keyboard control, the spacebar will open and close the template
  66.     window (escape will close it too, Im just trying to be symetric).
  67.     Pressing ENTER will also bring up the data window.

  69. * Double-click preference: Choose between toggling the clear state of a
  70.     transaction,bringing up the Edit window, or "unfiltering" by double-clicking 
  71.     with Preferences/double click/xxxx options.  A tooltype DCLICK=CLEAR
  72.     if uncommented will default the doubleclick to clear/unclear transactions.
  73.     Options for "DCLICK=" are CLEAR,EDIT, and UNFILT.

  75. * "2-line" entries: Choose between two register types, single-line entries
  76.      and a new two-line style that includes the memo field.  There is a 
  77.     tooltype USEMEMO to turn this on at startup.  A menu item, 
  78.     preferences/window/use memo toggles the selection on the fly.
  79.     When the swap is made, if a row was selected that row will be viewable
  80.     in the new register (sort of like "jump to selected" during the process).

  83. * Net Worth summary.  The Utils/net worth menu option now brings up a panel
  84.     for you to describe multiple accounts and provide a general picture of
  85.     how well you are doing financially.  You may save the list of accounts
  86.     as an ACnet file (similar to the script editor saving ACscript files).
  87.     Double-clicking on these ACnet icons bring up your list in a text editor.

  89.     The panel lists the current account info, and the summary info:

  93.     If you clicked on an account or used the keyboard arrow keys, the local account
  94.     data updates to show the current and statement balances, and the tax deductible
  95.     amount (reconciled entries checked with the "tax deduct" flag) of that account.
  96.  
  97.     You may change whether the account is a CREDIT or DEBIT account (the default is
  98.     CREDIT).  A credit account means that a negative balance is debt (your checking
  99.     account is a credit account by my terminology).  A DEBIT account is one such that
  100.     a positive balance is debt (such as a credit card).  You do not have to use this 
  101.     feature    at all, but if you wanted to maintain positive balances for debt accounts 
  102.     such as    credit cards, this feature provides you the means to explain it to amiCheck.

  104.     Summary info
  105.     ------------
  106.     The summary info totals the credit accounts and debit accounts, displaying the results
  107.     and amounts of each.  The tax deductions field displays the summed total of all tax
  108.     deductions.
  109.  
  110.     The balance type may be CURRENT or STATEMENT, meaning that the summary info either
  111.     uses the current balance and current tax deductible amount (ie: all transactions,
  112.     not just reconciled ones) or the statement balance and the reconciled tax deductible
  113.     amount.

  115.     Notes
  116.     -----
  117.     The tax deductions are always summed up positive (whether the account is a debit or
  118.     credit and whether the transaction that was tax deductible is either a deposit or 
  119.     withdrawal.  
  120.  
  121.     Also, before you can use this panel you must make a backup of your old accounts,
  122.     load them into the new amiCheck and save them again.  This is because the file
  123.     format has been tweeked a bit to support this panel quickly.  If you don't do this,
  124.     amiCheck will warn you that it cannot summarize the account of interest.

  127. * Interactive graphical analysis now in amiCheck.  The "Analysis" button brings up
  128.     a bar-chart with three graph styles to select,
  129.  
  130.     Graph styles
  131.     ------------
  132.     Running Balance: Depicts the balance in your account at the time the transaction
  133.         was posted.  Notice that if you have filtered out some transactions
  134.         or sorted the register, the running balance may not make sense.
  135.  
  136.     Filter Balance: Depicts the balance of the transactions in the register (ignores
  137.         the running balances).
  138.  
  139.     Amounts: Shows the amounts rather than a balance.

  142.     Getting around the panel
  143.     ------------------------
  144.     All deposits are white bars, while other transactions are black for visual reference.
  145.  
  146.     Balances may become negative, shown when a bar moves below the centerline (blue dashed line
  147.         represents "0" balance).
  148.  
  149.     Clicking on a bar highlights it and displays the bar amount, double-clicking on the bar 
  150.         leaves the panel and selects that transaction.

  152.     The "Scroll" gadget may be used to scroll through the transactions
  153.  
  154.     The "Scale" gadget is used to "zoom" in or out of the graph to make out finer details. 
  155.         amiCheck tries to pick a good initial value (one that shows the running balance
  156.         without needing to scale) for you.

  159.     Keyboard shortcuts
  160.     ------------------
  161.     UP/DOWN (and (CTRL/SHIFT) + UP/DOWN) arrows will scale the graph
  162.     LEFT/RIGHT (and (CTRL/SHIFT) + LEFT/RIGHT) arrows will scroll the graph
  163.     ENTER is equivalent to a double-click on the current transaction.

  166. * Filter panel gets more powerful
  167.     You can now declare a filter range on the name (payee) and memo fields
  168.     using AmigaDOS pattern matching (ie: (phone#?|power#?) )

  171. * New keyboard shortcuts
  172.     The search panel is now completely operatable by keyboard.  To select a string
  173.     gadget, press tab.

  175.     The template selection window now accepts the ENTER key as a double-click

  178. * New Check renumbering scheme
  179.     To quickly renumber checks without the normal hastle, select the transaction
  180.     by clicking on it once.  Then hold down the left or right arrow keys and press
  181.     a number from 1-9.  If you held down the RIGHT arrow, your number is ADDED to the
  182.     check.  The LEFT arrow key SUBTRACTS the amount.

  184.     The check is not re-filtered or re-sorted for safety.  To re-sort or re-filter,
  185.     click on the filter button and then click on the OK button in the filter panel.

  189.     Now it is easy to find the selected transaction when you went browsing with the scroll bar.
