We have provided you with three of our latest issues in Adobe Acrobat 2.0 format. To use many of the files on this disk you'll need to install the Adobe Acrobat 2.0 reader that we've provided here. If you already own Adobe Acrobat 2.0 Exchange or have already installed Acrobat 2.0 Reader from a previous purchase, you can skip the install.
We've tested Acrobat with many Windows for Workgroups 3.11; Windows'95 (beta two); and Macintosh System 7.1/7.5 machines. However, Windows NT (3.1 or 3.5) does not work. (We're sorry about that, but Adobe Acrobat needs Adobe Type Manager and Adobe Multiple Master fonts, and Windows NT doesn't support those. Adobe has promised an NT version in mid-1995).

TO INSTALL ACROBAT ON WINDOWS
To start up Acrobat, just run the ACROREAD.EXE or SETUP.EXE file and follow the directions (they are the same file, we put it on the CD twice, just in case). After you get Acrobat loaded, make sure you start with the README.PDF file in the root directory of the CD-ROM. This file is a front-end for the entire CD and will explain much more than this note has.

COMPRESSION
Also, some files have been compressed with PKUNZIP 2.04G. We've included a copy here for you. It's fairly easy to use: just make a new directory on your local hard drive. (We suggest naming it PKWARE). Copy the PKZ204G.EXE file to the PKWARE directory. Run the PKZ204G.EXE file. It'll uncompress a bunch of files into the directory.
Then, all you need to do is switch to the PKWARE directory (at a DOS-prompt) and type:
PKUNZIP C:\(the path to your file)\(your file name) -d C:\(the path to where you want all the file put).
Using the (-d) switch keeps any directories intact that were compressed into the file.
If you need more information about PKUNZIP read the files that come with it in the PKWARE directory.

IMPORTANT:
Here's some recommendations regarding Adobe Acrobat Reader 2.0's installer that we've found (ACROREAD.EXE):
Adobe Acrobat 2.0 expects to see Program Manager while loading. Some customers have problems when they are using PCTools or Norton Desktop as a shell when trying to load Acrobat 2.0.
If you encounter a ***0003*** error during installation, you need to make sure that there's enough hard drive space on the drive that you are trying to intall Acrobat 2.0. We recommend at least 5MB of extra space on your drive.
Loading on systems with a RAM Disk is not recommended. We recommend removing the RAM disk (REM out that line in your Autoexec.bat) before installing Acrobat 2.0 Reader.
Make sure you don't have a virus detector running during install.
Acrobat Reader 2.0 uses a lot of system resources (relative to other apps we've used) so if you are having problems, try removing screen savers or programs like Microsoft Excel 5.0 that use lots of system resources).
There is a maximum of 40 program manager groups. If you are at or near the maximum, you may have problems with installing Adobe Acrobat 2.0.

READ THIS AGREEMENT BEFORE USING THIS VB-CD QUARTERLY (CD).
The articles and other textual materials from Visual Basic Programmer's Journal, utilities and other software and associated documentation, and other materials included on this VB-CD Quarterly are licensed to you subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement by Fawcette Technical Publications, 209 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94301-2500. By using the VB-CD Quarterly, in whole or in part, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of this Agreement. Fawcette Technical Publications owns the title to the VB-CD Quarterly and to all intellectual property rights there, except insofar as it contains materials that are proprietary to third-party suppliers. All rights in the VB-CD Quarterly except those expressly granted to you in this Agreement are reserved to Fawcette Technical Publications and such suppliers, as their respective interests may appear.
You are licensed to:
Use the VB-CD Quarterly on any computer which you personally own or use within your organization, provided that the VB-CD Quarterly is not used in any network, file server, virtual disk, timesharing, multiple CPU, other multi-user, bulletin board or remotely accessible arrangement.
Additional Restrictions
A. You shall not (and shall not permit other persons or entities to) directly or indirectly, by electronic or other means, reproduce (except for archival purposes as permitted by law), publish, distribute, rent, lease, sell, sublicense, assign, or otherwise transfer the VB-CD Quarterly or any part therein or this agreement. Any attempt to do so shall be void and of no effect.
B. You shall not (and shall not permit other persons or entities to) reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, merge, modify, create derivative works of, or translate the VB-CD Quarterly for any commercial purpose.
C. You shall not (and shall not permit other persons or entities to) remove or obscure Fawcette Technical Publications or it's suppliers copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices or legends from any portion of the VB-CD Quarterly or any related materials.
Limited Warranty and Limited Liability
A. THE ONLY WARRANTY MADE BY FAWCETTE TECHNICAL PUBLICATIONS IS THAT THE ORIGINAL PHYSICAL MEDIA IN WHICH THE VB-CD QUARTERLY IS EMBODIED AND WHICH ARE DISTRIBUTED BY FAWCETTE TECHNICAL PUBLICATIONS SHALL BE FREE OF DEFECTS IN MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP FOR A PERIOD OF NINETY (90) DAYS AFTER DELIVERY TO YOU. FAWCETTE TECHNICAL PUBLICATIONS AND IT'S SUPPLIERS ENTIRE LIABILITY AND YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ORIGINAL PHYSICAL MEDIA, IF DEFECTIVE, WITHIN A REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME.
B. EXCEPT AS SPECIFICALLY PROVIDED ABOVE, THE VB-CD QUARTERLY IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE OF THE SOFTWARE AND OTHER MATERIAL THAT IS PART OF THE VB-CD QUARTERLY IS ASSUMED BY YOU, AND FAWCETTE TECHNICAL PUBLICATIONS AND ITS SUPPLIERS ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ACCURACY OR APPLICATION OF OR ERRORS OR OMISSIONS IN THE VB-CD QUARTERLY, EVEN IF FAWCETTE TECHNICAL PUBLICATIONS AND/OR ITS SUPPLIERS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE LIKELIHOOD OF SUCH DAMAGES OCCURRING. US Government Restricted Rights
The VB-CD Quarterly is licensed subject to RESTRICTED RIGHTS. Use duplication, or disclosure by the United States Government or any person or entity acting on its behalf is subject to restrictions set forth in subdivision (c)(1)(ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software Clause at DFARS (48 CFR 252.227-7013) for DoD contracts, in paragraphs (c)(1) and (2) of the Commercial Computer Software Restricted Rights clause in the FAR (48 CFR 52.227-19) for civilian agencies or in other comparable agency clauses. The contractor/manufacturer is Fawcette Technical Publications.
General
Nothing in this Agreement constitutes a waiver of Fawcette Technical Publications' or its supplier's rights under US copyright laws or any other federal, state, local or foreign law. You are responsible for installation, management and operation of the VB-CD Quarterly. This Agreement shall be construed, interpreted and governed under California law.
