  1. You work with Visio shapes using many different tools and toolbar buttons.
  2.  
  3. When youÆve completed this section youÆll be familiar with Visio tools and will have practiced using some of the most useful ones.
  4.  
  5. Visio has three default toolbars.
  6.  
  7. The Standard toolbar contains tools for dragging, drawing, rotating, and zooming in on shapes.
  8.  
  9. It also contains standard Windows buttons for saving, opening, and previewing drawings.
  10.  
  11. The Text toolbar contains style lists, font lists, and buttons for formatting text. 
  12.  
  13. The Shape toolbar contains style lists and buttons for formatting shapes.
  14.  
  15. LetÆs see how the Rotation tool from the Standard Toolbar works.

  17. Select the Rotation tool and then click on the shape you want to rotate.
  18.  
  19. When a shape is selected with the Rotation tool, you can see its center of rotation.
  20.  
  21. You can rotate a shape around its center of rotation.
  22.  
  23. You do this by dragging one of the round rotation handles.
  24.  
  25. The Zoom tools and buttons allow you to increase or decrease the magnification of your page view.
  26.  
  27. The Zoom list allows you to select a specific zoom percentage.

  29. If you change magnification by clicking the Zoom In or Zoom Out buttons, the current magnification percentage is shown.

  31. You can also use keyboard shortcuts to zoom in and out of an area in your drawing.

  33. By holding down Ctrl+Shift and right-clicking you can zoom out.
  34.  
  35. By holding down Ctrl+Shift and left-clicking you can zoom in.

  37. You can zoom in on an area in your drawing by holding down Ctrl+Shift+left mouse button and dragging the mouse.

  39. You can move around the page at the same zoom level by holding down Ctrl+Shift+right mouse button and dragging the mouse.

  41. By pressing Ctrl+W you can view your entire drawing on the page.

  43. You can change the appearance of lines and shapes with the buttons on the Shape toolbar.

  45. For instance, you can select from many colors in the Fill Color drop-down list.

  47. To fill a shape with a color you click the shape, click the Fill Color button, and select a color.

  49. The drawing tools on the Standard toolbar enable you to draw your own shapes.

  51. For instance, you can draw an ellipse using the Ellipse tool.

  53. You click the tool, then drag to draw.

  55. You can draw a line using the Line tool.

  57. If you press the Shift key while using the Shape tools you can control the format of the finalized shape.

  59. For instance, using the Shift key and Ellipse tool together produces a circle.

  61. Using the Shift key and Rectangle tool produces a square.

  63. You can draw other shapes such as arcs and freeform lines using tools on the Shape toolbar.
