- You work with Visio shapes using many different tools and toolbar buttons.

- When youÆve completed this section youÆll be familiar with Visio tools and will have practiced using some of the most useful ones.

- Visio has three default toolbars.

- The Standard toolbar contains tools for dragging, drawing, rotating, and zooming in on shapes.

- It also contains standard Windows buttons for saving, opening, and previewing drawings.

- The Text toolbar contains style lists, font lists, and buttons for formatting text.

- The Shape toolbar contains style lists and buttons for formatting shapes.

- LetÆs see how the Rotation tool from the Standard Toolbar works.

- Select the Rotation tool and then click on the shape you want to rotate.

- When a shape is selected with the Rotation tool, you can see its center of rotation.

- You can rotate a shape around its center of rotation.

- You do this by dragging one of the round rotation handles.

- The Zoom tools and buttons allow you to increase or decrease the magnification of your page view.

- The Zoom list allows you to select a specific zoom percentage.

- If you change magnification by clicking the Zoom In or Zoom Out buttons, the current magnification percentage is shown.

- You can also use keyboard shortcuts to zoom in and out of an area in your drawing.

- By holding down Ctrl+Shift and right-clicking you can zoom out.

- By holding down Ctrl+Shift and left-clicking you can zoom in.

- You can zoom in on an area in your drawing by holding down Ctrl+Shift+left mouse button and dragging the mouse.

- You can move around the page at the same zoom level by holding down Ctrl+Shift+right mouse button and dragging the mouse.

- By pressing Ctrl+W you can view your entire drawing on the page.

- You can change the appearance of lines and shapes with the buttons on the Shape toolbar.

- For instance, you can select from many colors in the Fill Color drop-down list.

- To fill a shape with a color you click the shape, click the Fill Color button, and select a color.

- The drawing tools on the Standard toolbar enable you to draw your own shapes.

- For instance, you can draw an ellipse using the Ellipse tool.

- You click the tool, then drag to draw.

- You can draw a line using the Line tool.

- If you press the Shift key while using the Shape tools you can control the format of the finalized shape.

- For instance, using the Shift key and Ellipse tool together produces a circle.

- Using the Shift key and Rectangle tool produces a square.

- You can draw other shapes such as arcs and freeform lines using tools on the Shape toolbar.
