El Kermit software y la documentaci≤n permanecen
disponibles en el sitio web de Kermit y el archivo de FTP, como
siempre, pero con cambios que se describen aquφ. C-Kermit y
E-Kermit se han publicado con un licencia de c≤digo abierto, y
el c≤digo fuente de Kermit 95 tambiΘn (a excepci≤n de las porciones de que
Colombia no tiene derechos de publicaci≤n). Kermit 95 archivos ejecutables
y paquetes de instalaci≤n
se distribuyen
de manera libre y abierta, ya que incluyen una fuerte
encriptaci≤n, cuya exportaci≤n estß controlada por el Gobierno de
los Estados Unidos. Para los clientes que no pueden
utilizar las licencias de c≤digo abierto, y a que les gustarφa seguir
comprando copias del software como siempre,

<h3>El Proyecto Kermit</h3>
El 29 de abril 2011 el Proyecto Kermit cumpli≤ 30 a±os. Se inici≤ en 1981
en la Universidad Columbia en la Cuidad de Nueva York como una forma de
configurar los microcomputadoras como terminales de mainframes a nuestra
central y realizar transferencia de archivos de forma fiable para que los
alumnos puedan guardar sus archivos en disquetes (leer la historia <a
href="http://www.columbia.edu/cu/computinghistory/dec20.html#kermit">aquφ</a>).
Desde entonces, como uno de los primeros proyectos distribuidos de
voluntariado del mundo para desarrollo de software, Kermit se ha convertido
en un multiuso multi-plataforma herramienta independiente del modo de
conexi≤n para comunicaci≤n entre computadoras, transferencia y gesti≤n de
