  8. I.   I M P O R T A N T    N O T I C E

  10.      An overview of our product line is listed below.  All products come in
  11.      either 16-bit or 32-bit versions.

  13.       PCLTool SDK (PT2) - The superset of all product features in SDK form.

  55.      Steps for a successful demo:
  56.  
  57.           Install the program (ALWAYS UNINSTAL previous vers. & EXIT WINDOWS)

  60.             1 - "Convert" sample PCL to PCX format. (DO NOT "VIEW PCL", yet!)
  61.  
  62.             2 - "View Image" the sample PCX files converted.
  63.                  If you do not get an exact match of the printer output:
  64.                      Check your .LOG file for error messages.
  65.                      Run PCLCODES to see what the PCL is looking for.
  66.                      Make sure all your preferences are set properly.
  67.                      Try again.  
  68.  
  69.             3 - "Convert" sample PCL to PMF vector format. 
  70.  
  71.             4 - "View Image" the sample PMF vector files converted.
  72.                  If you do not get an exact match of the printer output:

  78.             5 - Repeat steps 1-4 with your PCL files.  They must be able to be
  79.                 printed using the "copy filename.pcl /b prn" command.  If you
  80.         can't get the desired results, send us the zipped PCL file.

  82.             6 - Before you do a "VIEW PCL", you must go to "SEARCH" and run
  83.                 a "Low-Level Index" on the file(s) you are going to 'view'.
  84.                 Once indexed, "VIEW PCL" the file in both bitmap and vector
  85.                 formats.

  87.             If we can ascertain that we can convert your PCL properly, the
  88.             rest of the evaluation is optional depending on what features
  89.             you will require for your application.

  91.      PLEASE DO NOT WRITE CODE BEFORE YOU ARE SURE THAT THE PCLTOOL
  92.           PROGRAM CAN CORRECTLY CONVERT AND VIEW YOUR PCL FILE.

  94.      All Versions output proprietary .WMF Files with a .PMF extension 
  95.           which can only be opened by the viewer in our program.  Only our
  96.           custom license versions will convert directly to .WMF.
  97.  
  98.      The Univers Condensed and Letter Gothic fonts are not included.  You 
  99.           must download them from the website, if you find that you need 
  100.           them to process your PCL files.

  128.     A.  Windows MetaFiles (.WMF):  The Windows MetaFiles generated by the 
  129.         DEMO VERSION of PCLTool have special headers that can ONLY BE READ 
  130.         by the viewing/printing .DLL provided and are refered to as
  131.         PageTech Metafiles (.PMF).  The .WMF files generated (.PMF) follow
  132.         all other Windows GDI standards and only the headers are changed
  133.         for the purposes of protecting our DEMO VERSION.
  134.  
  135.         THE .WMF FILES GENERATED CANNOT BE USED WITH OTHER WINDOWS 
  136.         PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT .WMF FORMAT.  
  137.  
  138.         This feature is designed to protect our DEMO VERSION from unauthorized
  139.         use.  However, it also provides the following benefits in the 
  140.         production version of PCLTools: 
  141.  
  142.         1.  Licensees can elect to use this feature to protect their forms and 
  143.             reports from unauthorized use, modification & reverse engineering. 
  144.  
  145.         2.  This includes situations where end users will want to use forms 
  146.             licensed for one application in some third party application.  
  147.  
  148.         3.  Licensees can protect themselves from the technical support 
  149.             generated by end users trying to use forms from their application 
  150.             in third party products.

  152.     B.  TRUETYPE Typefaces:  The TrueType typefaces provided in the DEMO 
  153.            VERSION have missing characters to protect them from unauthorized 
  154.            use.  The production versions will be compatible with:
  155.  
  156.            HP LJ III resident fonts will use symbol set PC-850, code page 437.
  157.               Other symbol sets can be generated via the FONTMOVE Utility
  158.               (WINFMOVD.EXE).
  159.  
  160.            Tax fonts are compatible with tax forms from Nelco and CPSystems.
  161.               We also have tax fonts compatible with CLR/Fast-Tax.

  163.            HP LJ4 / Windows Resident TrueType fonts are actually converted
  164.               from those found in users \Windows\System directory into our
  165.               FastFont format for use during the conversion process.

  171. PCLTools is the type of utility that will be in a constant state of 
  172. development.  Almost every licensee has a unique problem to solve that
  173. often requires adding new features or additional emulation support.  So
  174. as, to let you know the direction that we have planned for the product,
  175. a list of planned enhancements is provided.

  190. PCLCVT        Added two new custom batch conversions (-x and -y).

  192. PCLPTR        PCLPTR (PCLPTR32) reads all of the Preferences in the 
  193.         PTCNVRT.INI (PTC32) file and performs batch printing from
  194.         the Windows command line.

  196. Printer Calib.  PCLTool and PCLPTR(PCLPTR2) no print a Printer Calibration 
  197.         Sheet for the end user to use to input printer calibration 
  198.          values to print PCL to non-PCL Windows printers.  The values

  201. Symbol Sets    Limited support for the Windows Latin 1 (FFW1.SYM) symbol set.

  204. Memory Mapping    PTC32.DLL now uses virtual memory mapping when generating
  205.         .PIX and .HIX index files.  This is important to users with
  206.         PCL files over 120 Mbytes in length.

  208. Font Handling    Support for scalable monospaced fonts selected by CPI only 
  209.         (not by point size).

  211. Large Files    We have added the following functions to accommodate the 
  212.         handling of PCL files with greater than 20Mb in size or
  213.         greater than 9999 pages to convert to single page files:

  215.         pclSetLargePageNumbers - For files with > 9999 pages.

  217.         pclSetPageTracking - To increase batch conversion speed.

  219. Ltr. Gothic    The Letter Gothic fonts found on LaserJet 4's and above have
  220.           been added to the font map [Base] section - HPLTH, HPLTHB and 
  221.         HPLTHI (Bold Italic is derived).  The fonts are listed in the
  222.         FONTMOVE (WINFMOVE.EXE) Utility, but to economize on install
  223.         disk space they are EXCLUDED. If you find that you need them,
  224.         download them from the web site or ask for them.

  226. Univers Cond.    The Univers Condensed fonts found on LaserJet IIIsi's and 
  227.         above have been added to the font map [Base] section - HPDXC, 
  228.         HPDXCB, HPDXCI and HPDXC2.  The fonts are listed in the
