  1. BMPTOICO  - version 3.00

  4. Very versatile utility to convert BMPs into ICOs (with
  5. transparency) and vice-versa. Multi-icon resource icons, 
  6. 256 color and 24-bit images fully supported.

  8. PLUS:  picture Viewer, Touch Up Icon Editor with Add Text
  9. function, Crop icon-size pictures from big BMPs or Screen
  10. Capture, and more! 
  11.  
  12. 16-bit application, but uses Long Filenames on 32-bit systems.
  13. Needs VBRUN300.DLL to run.

  16. To Install:  
  17. ----------
  18. Run the INSTALL.EXE program included in the Zip; it will copy all
  19. the files to a directory of your choice, and create an Icon in
  20. the Program Manager (Win 3.1) or a Shortcut in your 
  21. Start Menu (Win 95).  You can also do the copying manually.

  23. In addition, BMPTOICO creates two new files when you first run it:
  24.  
  25.       BMPTOICO.INI   in your Windows directory
  26.       $$$PAL.DIB     in BMPTOICO's directory; created if you 
  27.                      run the application while your system 
  28.                      is set to 256-color Video Mode (it saves 
  29.                      the icons' palette to disk and retrieves it)
  30.  
  31.       Two files can be moved to your Windows\System directory
  32.       later if you think they can be used by other programs
  33.       (for example, MyCat Software's ICOEDIT, ver 2.0, will
  34.       use them both):

  36.       CALL32.DLL:    needed to get access to Long Filenames
  37.                      (you don't need it if your are running Win 3.x)
  38.       BMPLIST2.VBX:  needed to run BMPTOICO (it adds nice
  39.                      little graphics to the Directory list;
  40.                      Win 3.x systems don't see them, but BMPTOICO
  41.                      will not run without this VBX file)

  44. If you don't have VBRUN300.DLL yet, it is available on the
  45. majority of BBSs and commercial online services, as well as on
  46. the Internet (start at www.microsoft.com). On CompuServe, look
  47. for VBRUN3.ZIP in Library 1 of the WinShare Forum, or go PCFF and
  48. search for file VBRUN3.ZIP. It should go in your Windows\System
  49. directory.

  51. To Uninstall:

  53. Delete all the files in your BMPTOICO directory.
  54. Delete BMPTOICO.INI in your Windows directory.

  63. . Sizes: Icons can be anything between 8 x 8 and 72 x 72;

  68. . but... EXE/DLL/NIL/ICL files cannot be used anymore (see the FAQ)

  74. BMPTOICO will run for 30 days. After that, you need to Register.

  76. Registration is only $20 US (or $20 Cdn if you live in Canada and
  77. pay by snail-mail).

  80. the registration number is #16971.

  82. By snail-mail:  American or Canadian users can send a cheque (made to the
  83. order of "Lucie Dorais", not MyCat Software, please). If you live
  84. outside Canada or the US, and if the charges for a bank draft or money
  85. order are out of this world, you can send the equivalent in your country's
  86. money (bank notes only); although it might not be safe, I have had no
  87. problem so far.

  101. free upgrades, my eternal gratitude.  And that nagging screen will
  102. disappear forever!

  108. BMPTOICO is a Shareware program and is provided at no charge to
  109. the user for evaluation.  You may evaluate it for 30 days; after 
  110. that trial period, BMPTOICO will stop running (but will still allow
  111. you to enter the registration number if you got one).

  113. Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do not give
  114. it away altered or as part of another system.  And please don't
  115. give them your registration number! The essence of
  116. "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with
  117. quality software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for
  118. programmers to continue to develop new products. If you find this
  119. program useful and wish to continue to use it after the 30-day trial
  120. period, you should look deep into your pocketbook and make an effort
  121. to register it (see above). This will entitle you to the right of
  122. running one copy of the program on one computer at a time.

  139.           Full Icon Editor, but it also edits any Bitmap which

  164. PALEDIT:  A PaintBrush palette editor, with many additional       
  165.           features. Load and Save palettes. Use Hue, Saturation 
  166.           Luminosity as well as RBG.  See the detail of a
  167.           dithered color. View the colors in 16 or 256 color
  168.           mode. Mix two colors to create a new one. Insert a Clip
  169.           from a drawing program picture to try to match a color.
  170.           Edit Color or Black and White palettes. Build palettes
