  66. FAMILY RUNNER is among the finest personal/family schedulers available.
  67. It will prepare calendars and other reports that display one person's
  68. upcoming events or those for several people simultaneously. Data can be
  69. filtered when a report is generated, so that only events for a particular
  70. project, or only those events containing a particular word, will be
  71. displayed.

  73. Considering all it can do, the program is surprisingly easy to use. Its
  74. reports, while not as infinitely customizable as the ones provided by
  75. those output-oriented calendar producers with limited scheduling
  76. capability, are attractive, functional, and simple to set up.

  78. This program will optionally drag events forward from day to day until
  79. you tell the program to tag them for deletion.  Finding free time,
  80. establish- ing recurring events, and viewing religious dates (Christian,
  81. Jewish, and Muslim) are a snap for this program.  And, as a bonus, the
  82. program includes a Log module that tracks money spent and received.  It
  83. will even produce an Income-Expense report for any period of time
  84. desired.  And there's much, much more.  So, dive in and explore!

  142. Note that a Windows 95 / Windows NT version of this program is also
  143. available.

  145. To install this program, extract the files from the archive into an empty
  146. directory (folder) on your hard disk and then run the SETUP.EXE program
  147. that will have been extracted. SETUP.EXE will cause the files to be
  148. copied to a hard disk directory of your choice, and then it will create a
  149. program group and icons.

  152. Note that this software is a living -- and evolving -- product.  It is
  153. constantly being enhanced as a result of suggestions from users.  If you

  158. PRINTING THE MANUAL:
  159.  
  160. The manual consists entirely of on-line help that is organized into
  161. several "chapters" referenced in its table of contents.  Selecting "Help"
  162. at the pull-down menu will take you into the help system, where you may
  163. search for information by keyword.  Pressing the F1 key almost anywhere
  164. within the program will take you directly to a section of the manual that
  165. discusses that section of the program.
  166.  
  167. Printing the manual involves several steps.  First, get into the help
  168. system ("Help" or F1).  When there, select the "Contents" button.  At the
  169. Contents page, select  File | Print.  After the Contents page has
  170. printed, select the first topic in the Contents listing.  When that topic
  171. appears, select  File | Print.  After that topic prints, return to the
  172. Contents page and select the next topic and print it.  Repeat this
  173. process until the entire manual has been printed.

  176. VIDEO PROBLEMS:
  177.  
  178. -> If text on the screen or printer seems improperly sized or does not
  179. seem to fit neatly into the areas where it should, there are two possible
  180. reasons:   One possibilty is that the video driver you're using may not
  181. be optimal.  Some drivers seem to be incapable of producing text of a
  182. selected font at the correct size, especially at the higher resolutions.
  183. If you have a choice between a driver that uses "large fonts" and one
  184. that uses "small fonts", choose the latter.  Video drivers are selected
  185. in the Windows "Setup" program (usually found in the "Main" group in the
  186. Program Manager). Another possible cause of poorly fitting text is that
  187. you may be either missing some font files or using font files that have
  188. been altered by other software.  This program relies upon the following
  189. ORIGINAL fonts supplied by Microsoft Windows:  Arial, Modern, and Courier
  190. New.  If they seem to be unavailable, they may be somewhere on your hard
  191. disk, but not installed.  Try using the Windows "Fonts" routine (found
  192. in the "Control Panel") to find and install (or add) them.
  193.  
  194. -> If vertical and horizontal scroll bars appear when the program loads,
  195. your window borders may be too wide to allow enough space for this
  196. program's screens to display in full.  Reduce the size of your window
  197. borders to 1 by running the "Desktop" program (usually found in "Control
  198. Panel" group in Windows' Program Manager).

  200. -> If gibberish appears anywhere in the program, the problem is that the
  201. video driver you are using cannot produce all the fonts used by the
  202. program. Try another driver.  Video drivers are selected in the Windows
  203. "Setup" program (usually found in the "Main" group in the Program
  204. Manager).

  207. PRINTER PROBLEMS:
  208.  
  209. -> If fonts appear to be improperly sized, or if gibberish appears on the
  210. printout, make sure that the printer driver that you have installed into
  211. Windows is specifically matched to your EXACT printer model and that the
  212. driver was provided by the printer manufacturer, not Microsoft.  A
  213. "close" match or "emulation" may not be good enough, and Microsoft's
  214. drivers are generally less reliable than those from printer
  215. manufacturers.  If you must use Microsoft drivers, consider using one for
  216. a related printer.  If that doesn't work, try one for an earlier model in
  217. the same manufacturer's line (for instance, if you have an HP LaseJet 4,
  218. you might get the results you desire by using a LaserJet II or LaserJet
  219. III driver).  This program does nothing fancy with your printer.  It
  220. relies ENTIRELY upon Windows to pass printing instructions through the
  221. driver to the printer.  So why do other programs appear to work with your
  222. printer and the driver you are currently using?  Perhaps because those
  223. programs don't rely upon the same Arial and Courier New fonts that this
  224. program does.  Or perhaps the other programs are somehow bypassing
  225. Windows to print directly to the printer.  Be assured that if your
  226. Windows printer driver is a good match for your printer, this program's
  227. output will be fine.
