=============================================================================
Rules to live by here on the SPORTS Echo
=============================================================================
(In accordance to FIDONET guidelines, which require that Echo rules be posted
at least once a month.)
The term "sport" covers a wide variety of items. Obviously, the most common
subject areas center around the four "major" American/Canadian sports,
baseball, football, basketball and hockey. But discussions about other
sports are welcome. If you don't care for the sport, don't respond to any
of the messages. Just keep on scanning.
For purposes of this echo, a "sport" includes any that is part of the Olympic
Games, or the NCAA. (The only exceptions permitted at this time are
discussions about automobile and horse racing.) A sport does not include
such "activities" as Capture the Flag, Paintball, Splatball or the like.
These "games" may be discussed in other echoes, however, they are no longer
considered appropriate topics for the SPORTS echo.
These rules are intended to allow everybody to enjoy their time spent reading
this echo. By limiting the subject matter, content and tone of messages,
users will be able to know what type of messages to expect in this echo,
and not have to worry about screening the contents.
DO not feel like you're butting into a conversation. This is a public access
echo, and ALL are welcomed to add to ANY of the ongoing conversations.
DO have a good time, and contribute as much as you like... there are probably
some things you know that the rest of us don't.
Do not enter inappropriate messages and do not respond to inappropriate
messages. Keep all messages on topic...along the lines of sports. Only the
Echo Moderator (myself) should be correcting inappropriate messages.
Do not assume that if I don't respond to an inappropriate message on the
echo that I haven't read and responded. I have full access to NETMAIL, and
will handle most problems that way. You shouldn't usually see me make
"corrections" on the echo, though I will occasionally do so in order
to make a point.
Do not automatically take offense at something which may not have been meant
in such a way. Please remember that the symbol ":-)" or something similar
means that the person writing the message is not being completely serious
with his or her comments.
Do not start flaming on someone for something they said... they have as much
right to their opinions as you do. If you're going to tell somebody they're
wrong, say why you think that.
One exception to the above may be when one makes "guaranteed" predictions.
A bit of GOOD NATURED ribbing will be permitted. After all, you asked for
it by making the prediction. :-)
Remember that the team or player that you despise is another person's
favorite. Don't knock a team or player without saying WHY you don't care
for them. And please don't get personal. Questionable language should
remain in the gutter, rather than on this echo.
Please do not post ANSI graphics, or even high-numbered ASCII characters.
Certain computers cannot handle them, and will lock up.
Do NOT post messages which include buying, selling or trading of items.
This is not an open market, but a place to DISCUSS sports. Remember that
most sysops are in this for fun, not profit, and as such advertisements
are frowned upon.
Do not post ads for your bulletin board. The sysops of the other boards
don't want to pay for someone else getting "free" publicity. Postings of
"ads" for other related FIDONET echoes are allowed, within reason.
Aliases are frowned upon here. While your sysop might allow them, I do not
care for people hiding behind false names. Using my discretion, I may ask
that you include your real name in the text of your messages if you choose
to use an obvious alias.
By posting a message in the Fidonet SPORTS Echo, you agree to abide by the
rules stated above. Failure to follow the rules of this echo as stated
may result in your access to this echo being terminated. The decisions of
the moderator or his designated alternate are final, and should not be
discussed in the echo.
*****************
Messages on pro wrestling (WWF, NWA, etc.) are not permitted in this echo.
A vote by users of this echo have decided that Wrestling belongs in the
Entertainment echo, not the Sports echo. An echo has been set up on
FIDONET, with the name WRESTLING, where all of these messages should go.
Fantasy sports leagues should NOT use this echo to run leagues, advertise
for your board, or anything of the sort. Fantasy sports discussions should
be directed to the FANTASY_SPORTS echo. General discussion of players and
their "value" are permitted, but that's about it with regards to this
subject.
Discussions regarding simulation or computer games are not permitted in this
echo. These discussions should be directed to other echoes that involve
computer games and the like. Discussion in this echo should center on what
happens on the field of play and off-field matters that directly relate.
Posting of betting lines is frowned upon. General discussion of favorites,
point spreads as they relate to the game on the field are welcome. The
LV_GAMBLER echo is a better place for other discussion.
*****************
If you enjoy this echo, other echoes on the backbone that you might want to
read include ML_BASEBALL, HOCKEY, CFL, NBA_ECHO and NFL. Moderators of
related Fidonet echos are invited and encouraged to post occasional messages
about their echos.
If you don't get these echoes, ask your sysop.
