  11. In compliance with Fidonet Echo Policy, the following will be posted at
  12. least once a month.  These rules are in addition to any valid Fidonet
  13. rules or policy.  They may be updated at any time by the Moderator.
  14.  
  15. ALL USERS WHO POST IN THIS CONFERENCE MUST AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE RULES
  16. STATED HEREIN AND ALL PREVAILING FIDONET RULES AND POLICY.
  17.  
  18. This is the International Fidonet Echomail Conference FIDO_UTIL.  It is
  19. paid for by individual systems who help distribute it.  Please follow
  20. Conference Rules to help keep moving FIDO_UTIL as cost effective as
  21. possible.
  22.  
  23. *Technical discussions* are permitted of all Fidonet-related utilities
  24. across all operating system platforms.  Of special interest are existing
  25. utilities that will not work properly after the year 2000 and discussion
  26. of replacements or work-arounds.
  27.  
  28. All discussions shall be of a technical nature only.  When a discussion
  29. goes beyond this, please use netmail or Internet email.
  30.  
  31. This is not a "my software is better than your software" conference and
  32. these type discussions/debates are not welcome.  Comparisons and intelligent
  33. discussions on different Fido utility software when comparing them to
  34. each other should be kept to technical aspects/facts and not personal
  35. opinions.

  37. No advertising is permitted.  This includes but is not limited to,
  38. commercial products/services, items for-sale, BBS notices and BBS/other
  39. Files Lists. If you wish to claim an exception, please seek Moderator
  40. approval via netmail in advance of posting of such.

  42. DEBUG/UUENCODE file script postings are NOT permitted.  Posting of these
  43. type messages will be considered annoying behavior.
  44.  
  45. Flames or obscenities are not permitted either in posted or quoted form.
  46. The basic rule we use is "if it cannot be said on American TV, then don't
  47. use it in the conference".
  48.  
  49. LEAVE MODERATING TO THE MODERATOR.  If you wish to chastise someone,
  50. do it via NETMAIL or NETMAIL the Moderator so that he can take action.
  51.  
  52. If a Topic or Thread is deemed off-topic by the Moderator, take any
  53. discussion of such to netmail.
  54.  
  55. Posting "test" messages shall be considered very annoying behavior.
  56.  
  57. If in the message header the "From:" field is an alias, then include
  58. your real name at the bottom of the message.
  59.  
  60. Moving mail costs SysOps money.  Duplicate headers, signatures and
  61. tag-lines are considered space wasters and should be avoided.  Please do
  62. not "sign" messages unless your header name is an alias or you wish to
  63. post your Internet Email address.  If you must use a signature and a
  64. tag-line, they should be: (1) limited to 4 lines, (2) limited to 240
  65. characters, (3) not contain "fancy ASCII-graphics" and (4) not
  66. duplicate information already in the standard Origin Line.

  68. When quoting, quote ONLY pertinent information to get the original point
  69. across.  Quoting entire messages, signature/tag/origin lines is
  70. annoying.

  72. Discussion of routine Fidonet information should be discussed with your
  73. SysOp or NC, not in this conference.
  74.  
  75. Eight-bit ASCII characters (>128) or ASCII control codes are not
  76. permitted in the message header, body, tag/origin line or cut/pastes
  77. from screen captures.

  79. Origin lines must follow accepted Fidonet Echomail Policy.

  81. Although this is an International Conference in nature, ENGLISH is the
  82. official accepted language.
  83.  
  84. This conference may NOT be ported to any other network without the
  85. express written permission of the Moderator.

  87. Questioning Moderator Policy in the FIDO_UTIL echo shall be considered
  88. excessively annoying.  Please use NETMAIL.  The Moderator is always
  89. open to discussion of echo policy and accepts suggestions and comments
  90. via NETMAIL.

  92. The Moderators may take part in active discussion in the echo without
  93. necessarily acting in any official capacity, unless the message is
  94. posted "From: Moderator", signed "FIDO_UTIL Moderator" or signed as
  95. below:
