  4. What it is
  5. ----------
  6.  JPEGview is a Windows '95 viewer for JPEG picture files. It is
  7.   designed for quickly viewing pictures without a lot of filename
  8.   selecting and clicking of buttons.

  19. How to use
  20. ----------
  21.  Run the 'JPEGview.exe' program and select a drive and directory.
  22.   Once a directory is selected, just click the picture window or
  23.   press the space-bar to load each JPEG picture in turn. No filename
  24.   selection necessary.
  25.   (You can of course choose individual files instead).
  26.  
  27.  Large pictures can be scrolled by holding down the left button in
  28.   the picture window and dragging the mouse.
  29.  
  30. Magnification and Popup menu
  31. ----------------------------
  32.  Right-click the picture window to show the popup menu. Select a
  33.   magnification level (this will remain the same for all pictures
  34.   until you change it).

  36.  **NEW v2.4**
  37.  A new magnification setting is 'Fit to screen size'. This resizes
  38.   each picture proportionally so that all of the picture is shown at
  39.   once, as large as possible, without distortion.
  40.  
  41.  From the popup menu you can also select whether the scrollbars are
  42.   'tracking' or not. Tracking scrollbars scroll the picture as you
  43.   move the bar. Non-tracking scrollbars only scroll the picture when
  44.   you stop moving and release the bar. It may be easier to scroll
  45.   very large pictures by turning tracking scrollbars off.

  47. Full screen view
  48. ----------------
  49.  To get a near full-screen view for large pictures just click the
  50.   'Minimise' button on the file select window or in the popup menu.
  51.  
  52.  When in full-screen view a tiny window will remain with a 'Maximise'
  53.   button. Pressing this will return the file window to normal size.
  54.   To remove the tiny window and have nothing on screen but the picture
  55.   just right-click the tiny window.
  56.  
  57.  N.B. You can still right-click the picture to use the popup menu or
  58.   press 'M' on the keyboard to maximise the file window.

  60. Rename and delete files
  61. -----------------------
  62.  Right-click a filename in the file window to delete or rename it.
  63.  
  64. Keyboard layout
  65. ---------------
  66.  'Space'         - load next picture in list
  67.  'Backspace'     - load previous picture in list
  68.  'Up' and 'Down' - move though the list of files (even when minimised)
  69.  'Enter'         - show selected picture
  70.  'M'             - minimise\maximise file window
  71.  'ESC'           - exit JPEGview
  72.  '1'-'6'         - magnify levels ('3'=normal)

  74. Drag and drop
  75. -------------
  76.  Drag and drop a JPEG file onto the JPEGview program in Explorer
  77.   to load and view the picture immediately.
  78.   You can also drag and drop onto a shortcut to the JPEGview
  79.   program e.g. on your Desktop.

  81.  If JPEGview is already open you can drag and drop a JPEG file onto
  82.   the picture window to load and show it.

  84. Default JPEG viewer
  85. -------------------
  86.  JPEGview can be your default JPEG file viewer; double-clicking a
  87.   JPEG file from anywhere in Windows 95 will then display it with
  88.   JPEGview - a lot quicker than waiting for your web browser to load.
  89.   Look for 'Associating file types with programs' in the Windows help
  90.   for more information.

  92. Adding to Start menu
  93. --------------------
  94.  You can add JPEGview to your Start menu by;
  95.   a) Select 'Start|Settings|Taskbar|Start Menu Programs|Add'. 
  96.   b) Browse for the JPEGview program and double-click it.
  97.   c) Select where on the Start menu the program should appear.

  99. Default directory
  100. -----------------
  101.  The directory JPEGview defaults to when it loads can be changed by
  102.   sending a directory name as a parameter to the program.
  103.   For example, if the program is in the 'c:\windows' directory
  104.   then entering 'JPEGview d:\art\jpeg' at the 'Run' prompt on the
  105.   Start menu will make JPEGview look in the 'd:\art\jpeg' directory
  106.   first.

  108.  It may be easier to make a shortcut to the program and make
  109.   the shortcut always send the parameter. You can do this by
  110.   creating a shortcut to the JPEGview program and then
  111.   right-clicking the shortcut and selecting 'properties|shortcut'.
  112.   Then put your default picture directory in the 'Target' box after
  113.   the program name.

  115. Removing/uninstalling JPEGview
  116. ------------------------------
  117.  If you think this is a useless program then it is very easy to
  118.   remove completely. Simply delete;
  119.   'JPEGview.exe' (program file)
  120.   'JPEGview.txt' (this file)
  121.  
  122.  What, no uninstalling Registry keys or .ini files, no leftover DLLs?
  123.   Sorry.
