Hello,
Thank you for requesting information about the Rock Ridge Group CD-ROM
proposals. The Rock Ridge Group recently submitted the draft versions
of its System Use Sharing Protocol (SUSP) and Rock Ridge Interchange
Protocol (RRIP) to the US National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST). These proposals extend and are completely compliant with the
current international standard format for CD-ROM, ISO 9660-1988. NIST
has announced its intention to write a US Federal Information Processing
Standard which will cover ISO 9660-1988 and the Rock Ridge extensions.
The following companies have expressed support for the proposed
specifications: Anvil Software Limited, Digital Equipment Corporation,
Fulcrum Technologies Inc., Hewlett-Packard Company, Highland Software,
Interactive Systems Corporation, Lehman Brothers, Mentor Graphics
Corporation, Meridian Data, Next Technology Corporation (UK), Philips
Kommunikations Industrie, The Santa Cruz Operation, Silicon Graphics
Computer Systems, Solbourne Computer, Sun Microsystems and Young Minds.
We solicit and welcome your technical feedback on the specifications.
The specifications are not yet frozen, there is still time to comment on
the documents. All technical comments MUST be received by April 30,
1991 to be considered. The final version of the Rock Ridge
specifications are scheduled to be available in June, 1991.
Send your comments and queries on the specifications via e-mail, fax or
