  3. Welcome to disc 1 of the Walnut Creek CDROM X11R6 package.

  7. This disk contains the X11R6 patch level 12 distribution, as well as
  8. binaries for HP-UX 9.05, IRIX 5.2, OSF/1 3.0 on DEC Alpha AXP,
  9. Solaris 2.3 and SunOS 4.1.4.

  11. For Intel architecture platforms, the complete XFree86 3.1.2 distribution
  12. is provided, containing binaries for FreeBSD (1.1.5 and 2.0.5), Linux,
  13. BSD/OS (BSDI), SCO and SVR4 (Intel).  XFree86 3.1.1 binaries are also 
  14. provided are provided for FreeBSD 2.0.
  15.  
  16. These distribution are also available via anonymous ftp from ftp.x.org
  17. and xfree86.cdrom.com.

  21. To install the software on your computer, please use the install.sh shell
  22. script located in the root directory of both discs.  The usage for this
  23. program is:
  24.  
  25. install.sh [-c] [-a <arch>] [-p <cdrom_path>] [-i <install_path>]
  26.    -c set flag to copy files instead of using symbolic links
  27.    -a <arch> selects architecture desired (default is to try and guess)
  28.    -p <cdrom_path> sets cdrom mount point (default is /cdrom)
  29.    -i <install_path> sets installation directory (default is /usr/X11R6)
  30.  
  31. If you would like to run off the CD-ROM with no new links or code, do
  32. the following and you are not running an XFree86 platform:
  33.  
  34.     % ln -s /cdrom/ARCH /usr/X11R6
  35.     % cp /usr/X11R6/bin/rstartd /usr/bin
  36.  
  37.     (Where "ARCH" depends on the operating system.)
  38.  
  39. Also note that for some platforms, the rstartd binary may be in 
  40. the misc or misc/bin subdirectories.
  41.  
  42. This will create a link in /usr that points to the correct directory
  43. in the CD-ROM.  Once you have done this, if you add /usr/X11R6/bin to
  44. your path, you will be able to run the X software directly off the
  45. disk.
  46.  
  47. The "rstartd" program must be in a directory that the shell will find
  48. by default, since some shells do not allow setting the path when run
  49. from rsh.

  79. The source for the program, and a number of binaries for different machines
  80. are in /utils.  The source code for the program is in /utils/lookup

  84. This disc conforms to the level 1 ISO-9660 format with Rock Ridge
  85. extensions.  If your operating system supports Rock Ridge, you can
  86. access the files using the full Unix pathnames.  If your system does
  87. not support Rock Ridge, the filenames are limited to eight single-case
  88. characters, with an extension of up to three characters.  Each
  89. directory on this disc has a file named 00_TRANS.TBL, that maps the
  90. ISO-9660 compliant filenames to the original, Unix-style, filenames.
