Welcome to the Netlib CDROM.
The Netlib CDROM contains materials related to scientific computing.
These include source code of mathematical routines, data and documents from
the famous Netlib repository on the Internet. We've uncompressed all
the files so you can instantly use and reference the routines you need.
You'll find on the Netlib CDROM:
SLATEC General purpose numerical routines for scientific computing.
BLAS Optimized low level vector and matrix routines.
LINPACK,
EISPACK and
LAPACK Linear Algebra and Eigenvalue related routine packages.
ELEFUNT Elementray functions.
FFTPACK Fast Fourier Transforms.
FITPACK Curve fitting routines.
MINPACK Functions to find maxima and minima.
ODEPOACK Solution of ordinary equations.
QUADPACK Quadratur(integration) routines.
RANDOM Random number generation routines.
and others...

Here is a list of some important files and directories on the disc.
view.exe File Browser/Uncompressor for MS-DOS.
00_index.txt Top level index of the Netlib CDROM.
00_index.htm Index for this CDROM in HTML format.
00global.txt Global index of the Netlib CDROM.
filename.txt A complete list of all files on this CDROM.
docs/ Documentation regarding this disc and Walnut Creek CDROM.
docs/view.doc Documentation regarding VIEW.EXE
netlib.faq Frequently Asked Questions about the Netlib repository.
netlib/ All the files on Netlib.
==========================================================================
MSDOS Quick Start:
Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
Example:
C:\> D:
D:\> view
==========================================================================
This CDROM contains a full word index program in the /utils directory.
Look in that directory for the binary for your system, then invoke that binary
with the word you want to search for as an argument. The source code for
the lookup program is also available in /utils/lookup_src if you do not
find a binary for your system.

Using the 00_INDEX.HTM files
We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
to view our disc.
In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.
For example, in Netscape/Mosaic:
1) Choose File/Open File (or File/Open Local File with Mosaic)
2) Choose your CDROM Drive under "Drives"
3) Select the 00_index.htm file
4) Click on OK
The 00_index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 1.1 (Windows,
Macintosh, and FreeBSD), Netscape 1.22 (Windows), Netscape 2.0b2,
Mosaic 2.00 (Final Beta), and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

What is Netlib?
"The Netlib repository contains freely available software, documents, and
databases of interest to the numerical, scientific computing, and other
communities. The repository is maintained by AT&T Bell Laboratories, the
University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and by colleagues
world-wide. The collection is replicated at several sites around the world,
automatically synchronized, to provide reliable and network efficient service
to the global community."
The Netlib repository may be found at:
http://www.netlib.org/ through World Wide Web,
ftp.netlib.org through ftp, and
gopher.netlib.org through gopher.
==========================================================================
Few directories from the Netlib repository were removed from our
CDROM because they are not distributable. However, they still may
be obtained from the Netlib repository or from our Internet-FTP
archive. The URL for our mirror of Netlib's repository is
ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/netlib.
