  6. NetWare 286 v2.1x File Service Process Patch Limitations
  7.  
  8.      A patch to obtain additional DGroup memory for File Service Processes
  9.      in NetWare 286 v2.1x is distributed through Novell Technical Support
  10.      on a limited basis.  This Dynamic Memory Pool 1 patch is explained in
  11.      the article "286-Based NetWare v2.1x File Service Processes: The Final
  12.      Word" (NetWare Application Notes, June 1990).

  14.      The patch will take memory from the Dynamic Memory Pool 1, which is
  15.      used by NetWare for drive mappings and other operating system
  16.      functions.  Use of the patch is not recommended if the system's
  17.      Dynamic Memory 1 Peak Used is 2 KB less than the Dynamic Memory 1
  18.      Maximum (this information is available in
  19.      Fconsole-Statistics-Summary).

  21.      This patch is known to cause problems with remirroring large drives. 
  22.      If you must use this patch and cannot remirror your large drives (this
  23.      is most frequently seen with multiple 650 MB drives), there is a
  24.      work-around.  Boot the server with an "un-patched" operating system;
  25.      as it is brought up, the drives will remirror.  Then bring the server
  26.      down after the remirror process is complete and boot it up again with
  27.      the "patched" operating system.

  29.      This Dynamic Memory Pool 1 patch, in light of these limitations,
  30.      should be considered a last resort in obtaining additional File
  31.      Service Processes.
