  2. NOVELL ANNOUNCES NEW VERSION OF NETWARE FOR MACINTOSH

  4. WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--October 1, 1991,--Novell, Inc., developer of
  5. NetWare¿ systems software, today announced a new version of NetWare for
  6. Macintosh, the first revision of the NetWare for Macintosh NetWare
  7. Loadable Modules (NLM) for NetWare v3.11. The new release provides users
  8. with enhanced printer and AppleTalk router support.

  10. "After listening to our customers tell us their Macintosh network
  11. computing needs, we are happy to introduce NetWare for Macintosh v3.01,"
  12. said Steve Nelson, Novell director of product marketing.  "This release
  13. gives Macintosh users greater control of their computing tasks, while
  14. making it easier for system administrators to manage their increasingly
  15. sophisticated networks."

  17. Enhanced Printing Capabilities

  19. NetWare for Macintosh v3.01 now allows Macintosh, DOS and OS/2 users to
  20. send print jobs to those Apple LaserWriter and compatible printers that
  21. are connected to the serial or parallel port of a NetWare v3.11 server,
  22. NetWare Print Server, or specially configured DOS workstation.  The
  23. product also supports printers connected via AppleTalk networks.

  25. From the NetWare desk accessory, Macintosh users can manage their own
  26. print jobs within a queue.  The Print Queue module recognizes print
  27. ownership and allows users to hold, continue, or remove their own queued
  28. print jobs, tasks formerly limited to the network supervisor.

  30. System administrators now have the ability to "hide" LaserWriter and
  31. ImageWriter printers on an AppleTalk network, rendering a specific print
  32. queue the only method for printing to a select printer.  Hiding printers
  33. enables the administrator to manage network resources more closely. 
  34. Administrators also can assign print services to specific network zones,
  35. giving them the option of selecting the zone where each printer queue
  36. appears.

  38. A new level of security permits queue access to be limited to only
  39. Macintosh, DOS and OS/2 users recognized by the NetWare v3.11 server,
  40. and then further to those individuals identified by the NetWare
  41. operating system as designated Queue Users.

  43. The NetWare AppleTalk Router
  44.  
  45. The AppleTalk router included with NetWare for Macintosh v3.01 can now
  46. determine its own network and zone configuration by analyzing data it
  47. receives from the AppleTalk seed router, a function known as router
  48. "seedability." The seed router provides configuration information to
  49. other AppleTalk routers on the internetwork, saving administrators from
  50. having to perform specific configuring tasks.

  52. With this release, users now have the ability to route AppleTalk data
  53. packets across Arcnet cabling medium, in addition to Ethernet, LocalTalk
  54. and Token Ring cabling media.  Any designated NetWare for Macintosh
  55. v3.01 user can access NetWare file and print services, and other
  56. Macintosh networks, connected to the same internetwork.

  58. Pricing and Availability
  59.  
  60. Novell will begin shipping NetWare for Macintosh v3.01 on October 18,
  61. 1991.  The product will be available in 20- and 100-user configurations.

  63. In the United States and Canada, the suggested retail price of the
  64. 20-user version of NetWare for Macintosh v3.01 is U.S. $895.00, and U.S.
  65. $1995.00 for the 100-user version of the product.

  67. Upgrade Program
  68.  
  69. NetWare for Macintosh v3.0 users who register their product before
  70. November 30, 1991 are eligible for a free upgrade to NetWare for
  71. Macintosh v3.01.

  73. After November 30, 1991 and until April 30, 1992, NetWare for Macintosh
  74. v3.0 users may upgrade to NetWare for Macintosh v3.01 for the special
  75. price of $200.00 for the 20-user product, or $400.00 for the 100-user
  76. product. This offer supersedes the NetWare for Macintosh v3.0 UpDate
  77. program, which has been discontinued.
