  25.      Chris, Please contact your friend(s)about the Atari equipment and
  26.      software.I have two computers,(800 and x1200) hard drive, printer,lots
  27.      of software and manuels everything works but this system is the victim
  28.      of newer technology.  I just bought a new Packard Bell Multimedia
  29.      System and we don't use the Atari any more.  The Atari is just taking
  30.      up space and is going to be damaged. Thank You for asking around.

  245. OK, I know that there are external modems available out there, but my
  246. question is, what is the feasability of creating a box that replicates a
  247. computer slot?  You know, a thingy with a slot to insert an internal modem,
  248. just like installing one in a computer.  It would have a plug for a power
  249. supply and a cable slot for the cable.  That way, come upgrade time,
  250. all the Commie user would have to do is unplug the old modem, put
  251. it on sale, and plug in the new one.  Just wondering.

  271. I can see one possible problem with that: internal modems are actually
  272. a combination of modem and serial card, including a UART chip.  The
  273. card-edge interface on an internal PC modem probably doesn't provide
  274. the signals you'd need to interface it to a Commodore, and certainly
  275. not to a Swiftlink.  You'd probably have to interface to solder points
  276. on the card to deal with the modem itself directly.

  294.         Any news on the SSL patches for Lynx?  If I understand Aaron
  295.         correctly, these patches would allow a Lynx user (e.g.,
  296.         someone with a C64 w/ NovaTerm and a UNIX shell account) to
  297.         access on-line banking AND have that banking info safely
  298.         encrypted yet readable to the user.  Aaron, is that correct?

  300. Yes, that's correct, assuming that the bank is using SSL encryption.
  301. I'm working on installing the Lynx patches, but having a little
  302. trouble with them.  It shouldn't be long now; I'll let you know how it
  303. works for me.
