  69. What's new at the WOC??  I just happened to talk to one of our FlagShip
  70. Product Support people (CMD)....
  71.     1. Jiffy Dos Version 6 (just released) now supports a built-in dual drive
  72. file copier.  List the directory, then tag selected files, or tag the whole
  73. directory for copying.  Many more features including adjustable sector
  74. interleave.... more later...

  76.     2. HD Series Hard Drive for the 64 and 128!!  Wow!!  More on this one,
  77. later.

  79.     3. RAMLINK is a hardware interface (multi-purpose) for the cartridge port.
  80. For use with REU's, and other devices this plug-in addition lets you turn off
  81. the computer, without destroying the REU data.  Turning it on the next day
  82. will find the REU still retaining the data that you stored in it from the
  83. previous day (or last week). With built in Jiffy commands, and a full blown
  84. Jiffy RAMDOS, plus allowing additional memory units to be attached this device
  85. looks very promising!

  97. RAM, or one #1750, and other peripherals like QBB, etc.?

  104. I was told 4 megs are possible, but since this is in the final design stages,
  105. it could change.  These additional RAM units would be supplied by CMD.  CMD
  106. has agreed to be our guest at an RTC in the near future, so they will be ready
  107. to answer questions, then.  Or.. pop a note in the CMD area here (Cat 21)!

  155. Just for clarification.. to upgrade your existing V5 Jiffy to V6, just order
  156. the C64 or 128 chips... the drive's Jiffy chips do NOT need to be upgraded.

  163. we've been having some interesting conversations with a few people ...

  165. Looks like Lou Wallace is sliding over to the Amiga area, but he still will be
  166. active in 8 bits (RUN).

  168. Miklos G (CP/M and CBM Fame, author of JUGGLER) did a nice article for TC 128
  169. on how to connect different drive mechanical units to the 1581 controller
  170. card.

  179. Howard and Bill,  You guys ought to come to New York after the WOC.  We have
  180. pedicure shops on just about every block in the city, or so it seems.  There
  181. is even one a half-block from my place that offers manicures/pedicures for
  182. people and pets!  That's right!  You and your pet visit and get "cured" at the
  183. same time.  Now, all this won't much help your tired feet, but they sure will
  184. look pretty!    :)

  194. Howie... as mentioned in the article, this modification will only work with
  195. similar drives (same disk rotation and data transfer rates).  Not even the AT
  196. drives (1.2 meg) work with the 81 board.:(

  199. Just saw an extensive demo of a B-8 program called I-Paint.  Using the C-128
  200. (80 col. 64K RAM, mouse driven).  Very nice graphics that rivals the now
  201. famous Amiga quality.  640X400 (8X8) interlace pictures were excellent
  202. quality!!  Modes include Clip & Paste, Hold & Recover, Wide, Draw, File,
  203. Printer, Zoom, mono, invert... just for starters.  4,096 colors on a 1084S
  204. monitor looked stunning. Programmed by Rich Kane, looks to be ready for
  205. release around X-Mas time for under $50.  This is going to be a hot graphics
  206. tool!

  271.  Here's  the  latest  on this 64k non-volatile RAM expander, as I
  272.  understand it.

  274.  Brown Boxes is selling the QBB for $129, and the QBB-B for $119,
  275.  plus  $3  shipping.   (Some distributors have advertised QBB for
  276.  less.)

  278.  The  two in combination will allow for a 128k Ramdisk, or it can
  279.  be partitioned, just as the QBB operates.
  280.  
  281.  The  QBB-B  is  not  a  substitute for the QBB, but an addition,
  282.  giving  the  extra  64k  of RAM. Because there are now two units
  283.  (plus a third, a REU?), an Aprospand card is required.
  284.  
  285.  Brown  Boxes is not offering any special deals to present owners
  286.  of  QBB.   However, for new buyers, those purchasing the QBB and
  287.  QBB-B,  Brown  Boxes  offers a $20 discount, or a free Aprospand
  288.  unit.

  290.  Using  the  two  boxes requires new QBB Manager software.  I was
  291.  told  that  the 64 mode Manager is just about complete, and work
  292.  on the 128 Manager will be completed shortly.

  297.  I also do not know if they have begun shipping the new units, or
  298.  may be waiting to complete the 128 Manager software first.

  300.  Brown  Boxes  also  offers group purchase pricing.  However, for
  301.  this  discount  they  will  only  ship  the  group  order to one
  302.  location.   For  a  "scattered"  group,  it is then necessary to
  303.  re-package,  and  re-mail the units to buyers.  I will be trying
  304.  to get a "group" together here, and on two other nets.  Allowing
  305.  for  the  added costs, a QBB _including_ shipping would probably
  306.  cost  $107,  and  a QBB-B, $103. [For anyone who can stop by and
  307.  pick  up their units at my place in NYC, so that I don't have to
  308.  re-package and mail them, the cost would be $97, and $93.]

  321. Howie, Barb Mintz explained to me yesterday that they are shipping the new QBB-
  322. B units.  They come without the reset button and switch.

  324.  Miklos (author of the QBB/CP/M Driver, Q-Disk) has not yet returned from his
  325. current trip, but hopefully he will update Q-Disk for the QBB-B in short
  326. order.
