- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Welcome to the Tom Netsel, Gazette conference!
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> ::: quiet now :::
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> No problem, but stumbled finding room 6.

- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> AFter all we wouldn't start without you.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Got friends up there.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> We are just informal for a bit Alberto....go ahead
- <ALBERTO.VO5> I'm from Stoney Creek, where abouts do they live?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Jim Telford on ...Street? Forgot?
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Welcome to the Tom Netsel, Gazette conference!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> ::blushing ::
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Get used to it Tom.LOL
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> We aren't in hand raise mode yet
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Hello, Doug.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL Steve just talk, will you. LOL
- <CMD-DOUG> Yo. :)
- <QT.PIE> Hi Doug!
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Hi doug.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Welcome to the Tom Netsel, Gazette conference!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Steve, too?
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I hope you folks all have questions. Tom loves questions
- <CMD-DOUG> Okay, let me get this over with... Hello EVERYBODY. :)
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Hi Doug
- <QT.PIE> LOL
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Doug is So popular. :)
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Yes, He is...I think it is the after shave
- <S.EYRSE> So Tom I just go a resubscrip card for the Mag. With disk.. were
- these made up prior to the discontinue?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Probably...things are changing daily.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Do NOT resubscribe to the magazine.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Unless you want Compute.
- <C128.JBEE> <- got refund check of $12.97 today
- <S.EYRSE> Well I signed up for the disk format only.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I better call
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Glad to hear the refunds are working.
- <ALBERTO.VO5> Why did Compute switch everything to disk?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Sorry to have to make them though.
- <C128.JBEE> <- rather have the magazine
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Any time.
- <S.EYRSE> You must have had more than a year in the Mag sub.
- <QT.PIE> <-- also would rather have the magazine
- <ALBERTO.VO5> I've got the Mag and Disk
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I rather liked it myself.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I think that is probably a foregone conclusion, but there are
- benefits to
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> both
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> I have a 2 year mag sub and 4 months left to go on disk
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> You can convert it ALL to disk if you like.
- <S.EYRSE> Yes me also as my files with Disks go back to mid '86..Including a
- great copy Best of from '88
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> What is the deal for converting Tom?
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Tom, as a start, what would be the wisest policy for the
- present subscriber.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Glad you asked thatn, Jim>
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Well, why don't I just run down the different options.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> We are in listening mode. Type "/rai" for questions.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Please wait until GEOS-TIM calls on you.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> First of all a huge jumpo in printing costs forced the change.
- ** <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Room is now listen-only.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We used to print about 5 different Computes.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Some with Gazette, some without, some with Getting Started,
- some without, etc.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Now we do just the one version.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> If you subscribe to Gazette version and do nothing with your
- subscription...
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> you'll still get Compute but without Gazette , naturally.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> If you subscribe to Compute ANd the disk...you still get the
- new disk and Compute.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> No change there.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Here's where it gets tricky.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> wel, not all are tricky. You can ask for a refund. :)
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We will send you a check for any unmailed copies of the
- magazine.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Now then, you can convert and get 12 monthly issues for an
- additional $29.95.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> The regular price is $49.95.

- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We figure you've already paid $10-$12 for a sub so you can
- upgrade for that price.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> But what if you have a good amount of unused copies due you?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> At the $29 price, we figure each issue is costing about $2.50.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> So, for every $2.50 you have due, you can get one disk.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> This will let you try the disk and see if you like it.
- <S.EYRSE> Tom you phone order folks seem to have this in hand..as I talked to
- them so if some one wanted to make a change I would
- <S.EYRSE> suggest a phone call to the order line/
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Good. Some of the people were SLOW in getting the details.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> But they should have the info in their computers by now.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> The 24-hour number is (800) 727-6937.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Go ahead Jim
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> If you have the disk and magazine, you can have the magazine
- portion converted to disk too.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Jim?
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> Tom, I have as I said, 2 years remaining. Do I pay $30 more
- for each year to convert? or just once?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I would convert one year and grab the $29 price for teh other
- year.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> The $29 price is valid though March 15.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> More than likely it will go up then.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> How would that work? Get a refund for 12 issues and apply
- that to the second year?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> They can work it that way if you like.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> They'll figure how much you actually have due you.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Take all that in disks if you like and see how long it works
- out to being.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> Also, I'd like to nag a bit about prices :-) I live in
- Canada, and will have to pay 12.75 extra a year, while forign sub are only
- 10.00 extra!
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Go ahead Alberto
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> It was my belief that Canada paid only $10 extra.
- <ALBERTO.VO5> Tom, do you suppose you will lose a lot of business with this new
- idea?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I can't swar to that price though what with GST, VAT, LSMFT
- or whatever.
- <ALBERTO.VO5> You guys charge GST to us canadians :(
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I really think we will lose a good number of people.
- <S.EYRSE> Tom couldn't Jim just convert all to disk and then get a EXTRA cheap
- year disk for the $30..;].And what would NAFTA do?
- <ALBERTO.VO5> The exchange really kills it :( 35%
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Yeah, that's what I suggested. Convert all to disk and then
- grab the cheap price too.
- <S.EYRSE> How many sub. to the gaz. with disk NOW?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Do you have any friends in the States who will subscribe for
- you? I think part has to do with the exchange rate.
- <S.EYRSE>
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I really don't keep track of the sub figures. Too depressing.
- :)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> If we can get half of teh mag people to convert, we'd be in
- pretty good shape.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Go ahead JBEE
- <C128.JBEE> Q1: How many disks sides of original material will the new Compute
- be, minus
- <C128.JBEE> the ads?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We will have two sides.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> The January disk is not as full as the others will be though.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Feb's disk is just about filled with programs.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We plan to start using bigger programs.
- <C128.JBEE> Q2: How will you handle ads, just curious seeing how it was been
- tried before,
- <C128.JBEE> will they be buried in the text as gifs, geopaints, etc? or all
- text?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Nothing to type in so go for teh big stuff. :)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Well, so far, the text is what you'd see in the mag. No fluff.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Ads aren't that big either. darn it.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We have some ads that are runnable programs, some are
- straight text, some are text/graphics.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Advertisers can design their own ads now.
- <C128.JBEE> So, they can't all be read from a menu reader ?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> If you can program ,you can have a great ad.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We have them all accessable via a menu.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Some are done with a reader, some run.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Jim go ahead
- <C128.JBEE> they charge by the ad or by the K or by the byte? Or all three?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We will be working on the menu too.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We charge by the Kilobyte.
- <C128.JBEE> Q3: How do you think the loss of the last "real" newstand magazine
- will effect
- <C128.JBEE> the remaining 8 bit market, especially companies like CMD that need
- that large
- <C128.JBEE> national exposure in print not offered by a disk publication? Like
- losing a
- <C128.JBEE> column of a four column house /end
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Well, Compute hasn't been on the newstand here in the states
- for years.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I know that printed ads are easier for most companies because
- trhey are used to them.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> But we still are reaching a good number of active 8-bitters.
- They are the customers.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Go ahead , Jim
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> sz>?>?>Tom, the card in the Dec issue states that US is
- 29.99, Foreign is $39.95 and Canada is $42.75. All funds to be pain in US$. You
- might be losing some subs in
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I hope CMD and otehr companies will look for this as a new
- advertising challenge.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> Canada be cause of that.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> I intend to stay with you, as long as you are around. I
- realise the market drives things and hope it goes well...
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I wasn't sure what the reasoning was about that price
- difference.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Someone in NY tried to explain it to me and it was HAFTAesque.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> NAFTAesque.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> It must be all the snow the posties have to ge through... :-)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> They have some valid sounding reasons that make it sound like
- it's fair.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> Ok, thanks Tom!
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Alberto your next
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Seeing as how the Canadian dollar is worth 75 cents here.
- <ALBERTO.VO5> Tom, why does Compute have the right to charge Canada Goods and
- Services Tax, since it's an American company?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Beats me. I'm just an editorial type in NC who has a big NY
- corporation doing ethe money bit. Sorry.
- <S.EYRSE> Tom will there a Printer or can we use one of our own. Keeping the
- None info space down on the disk and PRG's high?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Run that by me again, please.
- <ALBERTO.VO5> Since Loadstar doesn't charge GST, you might have quite a
- competition.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I will be happy to pass that on to NY. Glad to make a poiunt
- where I can.
- <S.EYRSE> Also I see that LoadStar is now offering a Newletter. Here is a OLD
- Disk pub outfit going into hard copy. :) Will the
- <S.EYRSE> disk have its' own printer or will that be up to the user..as we all
- have print drivers for most type of files.?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> The text files on the disk have a reader that will let you
- print.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> But teh files are SpeedScript compatible.
- <S.EYRSE> Well that makes sense..:)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> It'd be a good idea to print the program instructions.
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> For the Trivia minded :) What was the first year Gazette was
- published?
- <S.EYRSE> Will Geos programs need to be converted or just transfered. ?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Gazette was 10 years old last July.
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> Thank you Tom! :)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> The GEOS question is coming up soon.
- <S.EYRSE> just like the machine? ;]
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I thought we'd just copy them as USR files, ready for
- transfering.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> But we could include a converter.
- <T.GOSSER1> Tom, will Gaz. still accept submissions for the GalleryTom, will
- Gaz. still accept art submissions for gazette gallery?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We haven't had any Gallery submission in a long while. It
- just died. Does anyone want it?
- <T.GOSSER1> I miss it! :)
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I'll open this one to the floor.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> That's 1. :)
- ** <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Room is now in the talk mode.
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> I loved that feature
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> What does everyone feel about this?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> DocJM in Ca always won the Gallery contest.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> I like seeing new art, but I can't draw!
- <ALBERTO.VO5> Now everyone can talk?
- ** <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> was <S.VANDERARK>.
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> Graphics are one of my favorite features of the Commodore
- <T.GOSSER1> I would like to see it come back.
- <C128.JBEE> If they are all as good as Doc's, I would say .... YES!
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Thank you for your question. :) -Tim
- <ALBERTO.VO5> Nice speaking with you Tom :)
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Night Alberto
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> I like seeing how far the graphics can be pushed like FLI etc.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Thanks for coming, Al, I'll pass on the GST question.
- <T.GOSSER1> I have a lot to submit!
- <ALBERTO.VO5> ok Thanks :)
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> Same here Jim
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Well, if I get a number of submission, I'll be happy to
- include them.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> What are we covering in the next thread of info, Tom?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Got something new to mention about subscriptions.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> NEWS FLASH
- <S.EYRSE> Oh for we go back to the hand..Geos ready to run would be best..
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Taking note of GEOS remark.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I love GEOS
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Me too, Tim.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I never would have guessed. :)
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> Me 3!

- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> That is true...wish it was 2400

- <L.SCHONDER> Why work on IBM and listen the the "better" computer...:D
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I just got an Ok on a sunbscription deal that might appeal to
- some folks.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> sunbscription?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> whatever
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <L.SCHONDER> Tom, JBEE's idea of graphics ads is a GOOD one, I'd imagine that
- the set up work could be done by most advertisers.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We're going to offer a deal that user groups might use to an
- advantage.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I have a few that would like that
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Graphic ads? Oh yeah. We have a couple of good ones in
- January.
- <L.SCHONDER> Yeeeeeesssssss?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Be sure to check out the ads....please. :)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Ok...back to the news.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> You folks are teh first to hear of this.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> :::drum roll :::
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> :::::more drum roll::::=

- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <S.EYRSE> Well now that IS a good deal.
- <L.SCHONDER> Repeat the user group comment.... ::: all ears :::
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> To make this as easy as possible, we will run it via the 800
- number and bill the subscriber. Just make the call and give the names.
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Hey, Doug, you wanna buy a disk subscription?
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> LOL
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Tom, one topic we havn't broached is the one on submitting
- articles and prgs
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Show a friend the new disk and ask him to subscribe. If he
- does, you get an extra issue.
- <[CMD-DOUG] CMD-DOUG> What about you, Steve? :)

- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> This is a semi-advertised special.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I will get a letter out to all user groups.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Just wrote it today.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Our user groups will look forward to it.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> The 800 number people don't know about it yet though.
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> Sounds attractive
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I'll try to get it out right after Turkey day.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Ok, submissions.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Right now, I probably have close to 50 submissions in house.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I probabl have another 25 paid for but unused.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Most of these are typable size about 25-30 blocks.
- <S.EYRSE> Speaking of submissions I sent some stuff month back and never heard?
- So what format would you new ones in. Disk?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I'd prefer them to be the same. On disk but with a hard copy
- of instructions.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Docs on disk too, please...and without formatting.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Petascii?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I will be looking for larger programs now.
- <S.EYRSE> Just PetASCII or Geos?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Pet or true is ok.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I prefer not GEOS since I have to convert it too many times.
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> You mean true or ASCii, don't you? ;D
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <S.EYRSE> lou..lou .. lou..
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> It still has to go via 128 to IBM and back
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Sorry, Lou. Reall gaff there.
- <S.EYRSE> How about if you got one in ASCII no format and a Geos runable in
- it's format your choice for the disk?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> What color disk?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Just kidding.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> :D
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> That sounds ok.
- <S.EYRSE> I like the yellow,,it stands out better. and Geos with my eyes..;)
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> you and Data...
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I like that
- <S.EYRSE> LOL
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I used to have a white one with all the important files and

- <C128.JBEE> disk format?
- <[CMD-DOUG] CMD-DOUG> Sheesh! And he always said he worked for free so I'd
- settle for McDonalds.
- <[CMD-DOUG] CMD-DOUG> STEVE!!!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Thanks, Lou. I'll try to make sure you get your money's worth.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Yes, Joim, is still writing for us.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Jim...typo city tonight.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> That's great
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> I tear away the MS-DOS stuff now & give it to needy people,
- & keep the Gazette for ME!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> He's written an article on ML that I'll be riunning as a
- feature too.
- <S.EYRSE> He hast to be OLDER than Dirt by now...;)
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> That will be great
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We thought of the MS-DOS part as a mail protector for Gazette.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> You mean he is almost as old as I am?
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Bet he'd love to hear you say that
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> What about Fred D'Ignazio, will he still be writing for you
- also?
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> Lol, Tom!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> No one has been dropped. Randy Tjhompson did resign though.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> Jim B drops into our user group once in a while, great guy
- for tales, and info!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> See, Jim is still allowed out in public.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Wow
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> :)
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Properly medicated, of course
- <S.EYRSE> LOL
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> With a PASS, of course...
- <[CMD-DOUG] CMD-DOUG> Jim, next time he does, ask him about his 'I'm not Jim
- Oldfield' tee-shirt.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I'm let out once in a while, myself.
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> Lol, steve!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I have had some pro and negative comments on Fred's column
- since it isn't 64 related. What are your feelings?
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> I enjoy it
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I do to
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> ok Doug
- <C128.JBEE> 1/2 the people in the US probably own 128s
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> Huh?
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Which US would that be, JBEE?
- <T.GOSSER1> Its an institution now, I enjoy it.
- <C128.JBEE> most were sold here, so a 128 column is good :)
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> I like Fred's column as well. We aren't totally insular as 8
- bitters go :-)
- <C128.JBEE> U.S.A.
- <S.EYRSE> I think info on the 128 is good..some day I might get one.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> I like Fred's stuff too.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I have two now
- <C128.JBEE> Does Compute still sell Speedscript for the 128?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> That's an idea, but most of our surveys told us only 30
- percent of Gaz subscribers owned 128s.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Yep, we still sell the SpeedScript disk. 64 and 128.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I got one since that survey
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> well here's one of the 30%
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> 31 percent
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> and another to add to the 30%
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> 30% is rather substantial, I'd think... (I FEEL
- substantial... :D )
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We've got another SpeedCSriptpatch coming in January.
- <T.GOSSER1> I have 3 in the house.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Your okay...I'm okay
- <S.EYRSE> what will this patch do?
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> I have TWO C128's myself...
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Ok..if you know of a good writer who can work on deadlines
- and say enough about a 128, give me a call.
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Help you stop using Windows?
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> ooh, jealous!!!
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Window is a pane
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Mark Jordan.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> It combines several patches we've published before.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Windows is a pain
- <T.GOSSER1> I can do it!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> It lets you use 2 drives, counts, words, and gives you an
- 80-column preview....for the 64, of course.
- <S.EYRSE> OF COURSE...;)
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Speedscript has always been a great little wd prcr
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> It's still our biggest seller.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I can see why...It's small, inexpensive, and it does the job
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I use it in my classroom.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> as an example of a keyboard command type wd prcr
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Somebody called this week and asked for the IBM version of
- Speed Script.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> :D
- <C128.JBEE> Did Compute ever publish a speedscript type-in database?
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> LOL
- <S.EYRSE> Did you tell them that it would work on that small of a machine? :)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We3 had one years ago called SpeedFile but I don't think it
- measured up.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> MESSY SCRIPT
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Especially to Script and Calc.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Got one you want to submit?
- <C128.JBEE> Compute answer line "Sorry sir, you have to add 4 more megs,
- upgrade your PC
- <C128.JBEE> and buy windows" CLICK - "hello hello???"
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <C128.JBEE> =D
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> LOL, JBEE!
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Any hints on how to have a manuscript accepted, Tom?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Send red disks.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> I always include a check for $75, but now I'm starting to
- wonder
- <C128.JBEE> Well, not really, just asking because someone asked me Tom :)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> seriously...
- <S.EYRSE> LOL
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> Giggle
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I am still getting a lot of good material.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> That's your secret, Steve?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> It is backing up.
- <C128.JBEE> Have you considered disk demos?
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Costs me a mint too. Hmmm...
- <[CMD-DOUG] CMD-DOUG> Send in some .GIF's scanned from Penthouse?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Yes, those are an option.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We have those on PETLine.
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> :P
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> I have a pet
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Adds a whole new meaning to PETASCII, doesn't it...
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> LOL
- <S.EYRSE> I've a cat..will that count?
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Only up to four, if it uses its legs
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Actually as for submissions, if you think it's good and a
- friend likes it, it'll probably have a good chance.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> What did your PETASCII
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Of course, you have to HAVE a friend, then, So you're
- out, Doug.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Especially if it is productive.
- <[Sherry] QT.PIE> Ooooooooohhhhhhh!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> That's the catch.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> What will a good size article fetch?
- <S.EYRSE> how much would your FREIND have to like it and would they need to
- know anything about what you had written??
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Would they need to read English?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Most feature article fetch $400-$500.
- <C128.JBEE> are Compute disk back issues available and if so, for how much?
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Wow...I know what I'm going to do tonight
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Depends on how much work is involved and how good it is.
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> $$$!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Programs fetch that easily too. Good ones.
- Message sent to Job 13
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I've been trying to get experts to share with our readers!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Reviewers get paid too.
- <S.EYRSE> But Tom in reality those prices were based upon a Printed item. Will
- N.Y. stay with this for a DISK?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> And the get to keep the software.
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Well, good grief! More revelations!
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Not you, Steve.LOL
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> *sigh*
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Actually I asked to buy another progream or two to make the
- disk a better value.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> Where do i volunteer to be a reviewer? :-)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> If we can get teh subscribers, NY will go for it.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Ok, here's a foot in the door for someone....
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Don't gobble it up
- <[CMD-DOUG] CMD-DOUG> I'm sure you will Steve. :)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Send me a sample of your writing ability. Maybe a sample
- review. 1000 wors or so. Tell me what kinds of programs you feel qualified to
- review.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> 1000 words
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> Sounds like a fair try-out to me!
- <S.EYRSE> To the NC address still?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Yep. Wendover Avenue.
- <S.EYRSE> and is the BBS still active?
- <C128.JBEE> to your attention?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> The BBS is sceduled to go down October 15.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Okay...we are running into the 11:30 bewitching hour for
- editors.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> ???
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> I can't guarantee the BBS.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> Do we have a few last minute questions
- <S.EYRSE> Oct 15? 94?
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> 93 :)
- <S.EYRSE> so it's gone..
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We are changing our phone system soon.
- <S.EYRSE> will it come back??
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Actually a hard copyis harder for me to lose. :)
- <S.EYRSE> or perhaps a area here like Lonestar???
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We are routing most of our e-mail via AOL...pardon the
- expression.
- <S.EYRSE> some of us don't really like that system.
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> OK, Steve.
- <[Lou] L.SCHONDER> ;)

- <S.EYRSE> the wounder of 8 bits lives on in the heart of AOL and they won't
- know..How about that Steve Case...:)
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> Tom, will you possibly be reviewing or putting on disk some
- of the shareware programs that are out there? (now that you have more disk
- spce)
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Programs are a little tougher to get.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> That's an idea! We can do a PD column.
- <[HOST] GEOS-TIM> That is an idea.....straight from GEnie
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Neat concept.
- <S.EYRSE> LOL
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> We do have a person looking into that idea, Jim.
- <T.GOSSER1> Steve the perfect man to do it to.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> Unsolicited testimonial!
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> ::blushing::
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> I know Steve does PD, but did that include shareware? (Blush)
- BTW Steve I DO read your column!
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> If you have a PD or sharware prog to be reviewd, you might
- mention it to Steve.
- <[Jim] J.DEARDEN> OK
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> His content is up to him though.
- <[Steve] S.VANDERARK> Yep, it includes both shareware and PD, and the programs
- are included on the disk.
- <[tom] CBM-PRESS> It's his baby.
- <S.EYRSE> MENTION it..just let it drop on a board and you'll read about it..;)
