- Mark: I read your email. I forget just how to access that feature and it was
- hacked in and I never tested it much. So I need to know exactly what you did.
- It looks like it needed a delay. Did you use the same thing when you did the
- '*up' or a different program? When I do the text editor, that will be
- incorporated. It should work because I use the same feature for the quoter.
- It was just meant to not add the ' >## ' before every line. If you try it
- again, add a delay... though with a prompted transfer that should not be
- necessary. When I do the quoter overlay for 2.00 I will try it myself too to
- see how I make out. Thanks for giving it a try.

- I always assummed the prompted trsnsfer was for the quote feature and had
- only tried it once before but when you said I could use it for sending the
- whole buffer I tried it on that message. What I did was define the prompt
- character as '>' (slot P), then used slot B to send. First try was a
- complete
- disaster, only one or two words of each line were caught by GEnie. I upped
- the line delay to 20 and what you saw was it. Better but not good. You're
- right, the line delay shouldn't matter that much as long as RTCM is waiting
- for the prompt char before sending the line.
-
- The second half of the email was sent (*up) by using slot B in the quoter
- and NO prompt char defined. Line delay only 2 or 3.
-
- Yes, this is a feature I'ld really like to see. Don't use a feature like
- that
- much but it sure comes in handy when I do ;)

- I'll have to look at it. The prompter is always my method of choice because
- it usually can be used with no delays at all. I am finishing things up on
- 2.00. BTW, the lost chars will have to wait til next version cuz I'm not sure
- what is causing them and I don't want to delay release or take time away from
- other things (multi-uload, etc) for something as non-critical as that.

- oops, sorry Shek.. the docs are in an older file, # 10904. You can find
- it in Library 40. Or, doing a rtc or rtcm in a search will give you all
- the current files for RTCM. The 10904 file was written for version 1.09.
- However, there aren't too many new features, just bug killers on the
- older one, and now when you hit your HELP key in RTCM.. there are new
- hotkeys to use, and these are shown to you on the screen. Load her up
- and come visit us tonight in the rtc and check it all out. You'll be
- amazed! :> Remember to download Mark's Scriptmaker also, file 11076, so

- There is a bug I just found in version 2.00 of RTCMaster. It is small and not
- harmful, but you cannot clear the buffer from the pull-down menu. You will
- have to use the hotkey. The menu selections must have gotten confused when I
- added a function to the top of the menu. The clear selection goes to 'view'.
- Will be fixed in 2.01.

- I have a glitch report... I don't know if you can call it a bug, and I don't
- think I can do anything about it.... if you have a Xetec super gold interface
- and you try to save something to device 14 you get a crash. This is a special
- device number used for burst writes to the printer, and it thus reports as
- though a drive is present.... best thing is to just use a different device
- number if you have this interface because I don't think there is any code that
- I can use to test for just this situation.

- This is a report of a quirk in version 2.01 of RTCMaster, but I have both
- a work around and a fix for you.... you can pick which you want to use.
- The problem is saving the buffer. You can't except under 2 conditions.
- The problem stems from my trying to make the code more efficient. It
- centers on the redirection capability of RTCMaster. I use hotsaves, which
- is accomplished by simply typing in the name of the file you want to save
- then pressing CTRL-<uparrow> to save your default type files or CMDR-N to
- save files in SEQ format. If you want to save the file to a drive other
- than the destination drive without having to change that setting, you
- just prefix the name with a drive specifier. ex: a:, b:, c:, etc. where
- a=8, b=9, c=10, etc. So an example file might be:
-
- b:TestSave
-
- If I typed that in and pressed CTRL-<uparrow>, that file would be saved to
- drive 9 no matter what my current destination drive is set for. There
- is where the problem lies. If you specify the drive using the letters
- every time, you won't have the problem. So that is the workaround. Use
- a drive redirection every time. That is more work than I am willing to
- do myself, so I wrote a little patcher for you. It follows in this
- message. I am not going to upload it because it is so short. Just type
- it in and run it. It will back up the bad copy, fix it, and resave it.
- Covering our tail the whole way... So....

- In V2.01, what is the reason for the long pause after the modem init string

- That pause was inserted to allow GEnie (or whomever) to echo the stuff back... tho on reflection, and I just thought of this as I started this
- reply, that stuff is for the modem, not for GEnie. Anyway, I thought
- you of all people would have thought to press the SPACE BAR to just skip
- past the delay. It was your suggestion. heh heh
-
- As for the forced auto-save, yes, that is what I had to do too to save
- my buffer. It was the drive redirection routines that caused the problem.
- I changed that routine to set the carry if the drive redirected TO was
- not present... what I did not take into account was the possibility that
- no redirection was done, in which case the carry would always be set on
- exit. That is how I found the problem so quickly. I desk-checked, and
- when I realized the above, I figured my theory would be proven if buffer
- saves worked with drive redirection, which they did. Anyway.... that one
- is taken care of and the little fix changes only a branch that tests a
- condition that is tested again in another way several instructions later
- so virtually nothing is lost.

- They are trapped because of quote mode. There are other ways to deal
- with it, but I chose to strip them out of the input strings. Virtually
- all of RTCMaster's input requests use the same routines and buffer and
- some things are picky about quotes and some are not. On incoming chars

- Ed, I'm having problems when saving the buffer while using a script. When I
- logon with a script and go to read the messages on some RT's BB. After the
- buffer fills the program stops the data, dumps the buffer to the disc in the
- destination drive but when the data starts flowing again, the color of the
- text has changed and when the script reaches the next command it sends

- Sorry for the delay replying... I forgot to do it. Is this a script you
- created? I'm not sure why the text would change color. Is it to your
- default color? Does the save occur ok? you should not need a separate
- script for each RT if you set things up correctly because inside the BB's

- you make this script... could you outline the instructions in the script.
- Is it one that was created that is executed once online? or does this
- all take place after you are already online. In other words, are you

- Know what you mean about the docs! And as for your version,
- depending on how Frank created the script, we'll see where the
- problem is. I know what he is doing works because my MAILBB

- BTW, the Ymodem overlay is very near completion. Batch downloads

- The chr$(31) is working out fine. Did run into one problem that took me

-
- How about redefining the chr$169 character to something else or using

- I'll figure out which character Smiley is and we can redefine them
- both to that character. Guess you use scripts in the mail command
- mode too? I am deep into the Ymodem project, but when finished the
- first priorities are changing my prompt to the 31, then all of my
- GEnie scripts so that they will accomodate it. The 169 was just a
- non-printer that GEnie would never send. It could just as easily
- be any character. You also know you could do the redefine in your
- BASIC loader. The formula is (screen poke value * 16)+12288 to
- find the VDC character address. From there it is just 10 pokes to
- install.... 2 for the address and 8 for the character. There is a
- routine in the Snippets topic in the programmers category. I will
- try to remember to get you the data values if you want them, or
- you can just get them from the C64 programmers reference guide
- like I did. ;-) If you put the POKEs in your BASIC loader, tho,
- we can test it right away. To tell you the truth, I don't have any
- brainstorms or bugs big enough to justify a new version of RTCM
- yet. The only think on the punch-list right now is the text color
- change following the hot-key load of overlays, fkeys, etc.
-
- I have one more project after Ymodem before I do the editor or
- even look at the Zmodem code. And since we have not been able to
- get that Zmodem code to work here on GEnie, I have lost some
- enthusiasm for it.. I will still study it though, and perhaps try
- to contact the author. I will also have to get (or find) all of
- the Zmodem documentation I used to have and study so zealously.

- change that I have in mine. That is if your text is light blue and your

- I used RTCM SCRP.MAKER to make my scripts. I log-on and go to the first RT
- and set the scroll. After that I turn on the buffer and send the command RAM
- NOR. All this time the text on the screen is white. When the buffer is full
- the stop command is sent and the buffer is sent to the disc in the
- destination drive. When the buffer has been cleared and the continue command
- is sent to GEnie, the text starts again but this time it is cyan (blue-
- green). When the BB has finished sending its data the script sits there
- until it times out. I get the "timed out" message in yellow followed by a
- "unrecognized command", also in yellow. Then the script may or may not
- continue (in yellow) until the buffer is full again. I might get the buffer
- to save or not. Most of the time it works but why is it doing this and what
- is the "unrecognized command" that is in the script?

-
- Frank,
-
- The timeout message string is "Timeout, No -> " *plus* whatever you defined
- for the EXPECT string that the script is looking for. So if you are looking
- for the BB prompt of "1 ?" and the script can't find it you'll get the
- timeout
- message of "Timeout, No -> 1 ?". The 'unrecognized command' sounds like it
- is comming from GEnie and NOT the script. For example, if you misspell a
- BB command GEnie will reply like that.
-
- I might be wrong here, but when a timeout occurs the autolog overlay will
- send a chr$(3) (break) and a carriage return (not real sure about the CR).
- Both of which *should* be easily recognized by GEnie.
-
- As for the color change, that's partly the RTCM SCRP.MAKER's fault and partly
- the autolog overlay's fault. The default screen color isn't preserved very
- well by either program. Doesn't harm anything though, just irritating ;)
-
- Probably your best bet if you still can't get rid of the timeout problem
- is to do like Ed said and upload a copy of your script, but with a fake
- id/password in it. Leave everything else just the way it is. Be easier for
- us if we had an actual script to look at.

- I agree with Mark. The 'undefined' string is coming from GEnie.
- You have something in your script that you misspelled or something
- that GEnie does not recognize. The CYAN may be because of what I
- mentioned before.....using the dflt. file I included as a start up.
- Once the script ends, successfully or otherwise, it installs the
- color you (or I, in this case) specified for a default. As I said
- before, the autolog overlay, during scripts, controls more of the
- stuff, color included. The only thing that puzzles me is that I
- thought the overlay that supported online execution of the scripts
- (as opposed to auto-logon scripts) was not released yet. Sounds
- like that is what you are doing though. It is not a problem, but
- if that is correct, then Mark is in a much better position than I
- am to locate the problem. But if you can get me a copy of the
- script you are using, I'm sure I can find out where the problem is.

- echo off/buffer off/greeter off - user# - echo on
-
- If I then buffer something, I can't save it to disk from the HELP key
- menu. I just get a flash of the screen, I used C=U and C=Y to make
- sure the device and partition numbers were correct.

- Did you run that fix program I posted for this problem? Alternately,
- you can do CTRL-W, which saves the file to the auto-save buffer. This one
- did get by me before release, but I posted some BASIC code that does a fix
- unless you aready did this. The problem is a test of the carry bit that
- was not correctly set in certain cases. It is in one of these 3 topics
- as a message (The BASIC listing, that is)

- JO> Ed...There is a file named "RAMDOS 4.2 Bin" on the disk Rose
- JO> sent me. I'm not sure what "REU" is, but there is a file
- JO> named "MAD.REU" also on the disk.
-
- RAMDOS is the file that allows the REU to be used like RAMDOS. The
- MAD.REU and MOD.REU modules are both the same thing, the difference
- being the storage location in memory in BT. You won't need them. They
- are old modules I did before I had RAMDOS working, and RAMDOS is the
- method of choice. It is much easier to deal with. The REU modules
- use DMA, which stands for Direct Memory Access, and is more for saving
- only buffered data. As I recall, MAD.REU allows you to save like 12
- 20 k buffers in blocks which you can name, 3 to a bank, of your 1764.
- But RAMDOS is simply easier to use. As I recall, the REU should auto-
- install if you have it plugged in when you boot Bell Term.
-
- As for ST/R term not working for you either, I am getting the feeling
- that something is wrong with your modem. The one I had, I traded for
- a 1670. Why would I do something that crazy? It was a temporary deal so
- I could develop a dialer for it. However, while I had it, it went bad,
- naturally, so I had to keep it. However, I found the address for the
- Anchor company I believe, who makes them, and sent it to them for repair.
- The repair only cost me $5 at the time and I traded immediately to get
- my 1670 back. The point of all this... it sounds a lot like you have a
- bad modem to me. That modem was never very reliable when it worked, tho
- I did get it to work for BellTerm. If I were you I would watch around for
- a deal on a better modem. There is a guy now in the *FlagShip* BB selling
- a 2400 SmartHayes modem for $50, which is an unbelievable price for that
- modem if you can afford it. That will work with just about any term you
- own. I just get a real bad feeling if neither BellTerm nor ST/R term
- will work for you. I don't know if you can get yours repaired for $5,
- but it certainly sounds like that is where the problem is. I wish you
- had another modem to play with to tell for sure. I can't explain how it
- would work at 300 baud though, so I may be way off base. (You do have
- the baud rate set at 1200 on the main screen, right?)
-
- I know of one other term that supports it, which I also wrote, but it is
- VERY old, a big download, and I don't think it will help given what you
- have experienced so far. it is PCGTERM6480.ARC, and there is another file
- called (if memory serves) PCGSUPPORT.ARC. Like I said, this program is
- BIG (the files are, anyway) and antiquated. No 1k protocols, no 2400
- support.. lots of nice stuff at the time, but out of date.

- Jan, Ed's right, that is a good price! Plus 2400 is lots nicer than 1200
- baud and beyond words how nicer it is than 300 baud <grin>

- Ed.. Don Parish is having lots of trouble with RTCM and his 1670.
- We finally got a few kinks out of rtcm with his Aprotek 1200, by
- resetting his user settings under page 110;5, but his 1670 wont
- dial with rtcm. He uses it quite well with Wiz128. Any ideas?
- Thanks.

- I don't have any ideas Rose. That modem uses a partial set of
- Hayes commands, including the dialing. If it is not working, I
- have no idea why. Does it not dial at all? And how is he dialing?
- (i.e. from the keyboard, from a script...) I can always use as much
- information as possible. The fact that Sherry uses a 1670 with the
- program kind of tells me that it is not the program. Also, does he
- have the old 1670 (3 dip switches) or the new 1670 (4 dip switches).
- I don't remember the difference, but it is another place to start.

- I think the new C-1670 is a trues Hayes compatible and comes with an extra
- switch to disable auto-answer.

- Ed.. Sherry gave him the changes to the boot file, which he made. And
- he has the 4-switch 1670 and we have all his switches in the down or
- off position. He dials with it just fine with Wizard, but for some
- reason, it wont recognize the commands to dial from Rtcm. I am stumped
- as to what to do next. :/

- I don't remember what the dips do in that 1670, but they are not on/off
- I am almost certain. I believe at least one of them has to do with auto-
- answering. Anyway, I don't have a clue. Dialing should not be a problem
- with any modem that is at all Hayes compatible. I don't do anything weird
- to dial them.... just send the dial string. If he is determined to use
- the program, the next thing to try would be removing other peripherals and
- trying it (including speed up carts). I don't see how that would affect
- things, but I do know I had problems with my 1670 and a printer years ago.
- Mine was the old 1670 tho, and I don't have it anymore. What does Sherry
- have her dips set to? There are 3 on hers, or maybe she has the 4 switch
- model too.
-
- BTW, do the dial commands not work from the keyboard only, from the script
- only, from either??? And 1 more thing.... suggest that he change the
- initialization string in the BOOT program. The 1670 is not 100% Hayes
- compatible, or at least the old one wasn't. Change it to ATZ. That just
- resets the modem. Perhaps something in the init string is causing this to
- burp. This could possibly be causing the problem and also explain why
- Wizard does not have it. Wizard may use a totally different init string.

- My 1670 has 4 DIP switches. They are all pushed downward. I really don't know
- what the mixup could be. The only other thing I can think of is for Don to
- make sure he does not have any Cartridges attached to his 128.

- I'm glad to hear that you have the new 1670 Sherry. That makes me feel
- easy about the program. I know it works and is something else. Rose,
- if it works w/Sherry's modem, it is unlikely to be the init string, tho
- he can try it. It is either that he is not doing something right with
- his dialing or something in his system is not happy with his 1670. Like I
- said, the 1670 is a fussy little cuss!

- When using my 9600 modem with RTCM 128 I have found the only way to end
- the command string before dialing is with an AT for it to work properly.
-
- I also modify the Basic loader.
