  6. I am presently using Omnitronix's rs-232 interface.  What I would like to know
  7. is what is the difference between this one & the one from Jameco, and the Vic
  8. 1011a (which is in a doodle rest file).  When I printed out the schematic for
  9. the 1011 interface, I did notice that there is no 555 timer like the Omnitronix
  10. interface.  Is the 1011 compatible with the c128?  I also read in the Jameco
  11. catalog that their interface is only compatable with the c64.  Why?

  16. I am running a Jameco interface. Since I don't have the others, I won't be able
  17. able to compare. But here is what the Jameco doesn't have:
  18.    pin 8 to pass carrier detect from the modem to the computer.  Your terminal
  19. has to be able to read the modem response (ie: connect) to go to terminal mode
  20. instead of looking for carrier detect.  The Jameco works just fine with the 128.

  26. The Omnitronix one has carrier detect.
  27. I have a real live vic 1011/a here & it works fine with my 128.  Of course the
  28. the case is too big and I have to take it out of the plastic to use it.

  30. I use several rs-232 interfaces on my 128s:
  31.    a gray one from CSI <no longer available, they went out of business>
  32.    a Saylor interface from Saylor corp in Indiana
  33.    and the old Vic 1011/a

  35. As I recall from the    omments of users, the Omnitronix does not pass dtr and/or
  36. dcd thru to the computer like the Vic 1011/a does, but reverses them...which is
  37. *standard* for all other computers, just not ours.  (til the 1660 & 1670modems
  38. came along, but thats another story...>>
