This photo album utility caused a lot of excitement with the folks thatcame to listen. They found that this piece of software could help them organize, make, and view GEOS photo albums. Indicate when you are finished with END. <Rick Coleman> Hi Everyone! <GEOS-TIM> Rick, we are glad to have you here After using your Photo Mover for several years...I thought other GEOS users should know about it. So you are sort of my inspiration for the Software Spotlight <Rick Coleman> Thank you, I'm glad you like the program! <GEOS-TIM> Rick, as a start for tonight program....I thought we would find out a little about the programmer....you. Rick, How did you get started into using your Commodore 64? <Rick Coleman> I got started with a VIC-20 a long time ago as a hobby. Then I got into all the things you could do and it blossemed from there. C-64 then the 128. <GEOS-TIM> Do you remember when you got your first 64? <Rick Coleman> Yes, 1984, a little after they first came out. <GEOS-TIM> You mentioned the 128...was that a recent purchase? <Rick Coleman> I got the 128 two years ago used, and I've been having lot's of fun learning it! <GEOS-TIM> I guess the next logical question is what kind of system or systems is the Coleman household using now? <Rick Coleman> I have a flat C-128 with a 512K REU, 1571, 1541 and 1351 mouse and a Star nx-1020 Rainbow <GEOS-TIM> When did you get started into programming? <Rick Coleman> I started programming in basic right from the start due to a lack of local software suppliers. As I got more involved I saw the limitations of basic and started learning ML. <GEOS-TIM> As far as commercial programs...you have indicated in my talks with you before this conference that Photo Mover is your first program. ...are there any others that you have in mind for the future? <Rick Coleman> I've started on a DA to view geoWrite files, kind of a text manager that can read geoWrite files. <GEOS-TIM> That sounds interesting. Before we move into a discussion about the Photo Mover. Does anyone have any questions? Okay, Rick, Photo Mover is an application that allows the manipulation of and creation of Photo Albums that you find when using GEOS. Could you give us a more detailed description? I guess the question is...What is Photo Mover? <Rick Coleman> Photo Mover allows you to go through a photo album and select photos to be copied (or cut) to another album. This is faster than using the manager because it allows multiple selections at once, no more open, copy, close, open, paste,:...etc <GEOS-TIM> Okay, as an example...lets say I have three albums and I want about 4 scraps out of each of these three. How would I use Photo MOver 3.0 to do the job? <Rick Coleman> First you would open the source album, then go through it and select the photos you wanted to MOVE to another albumn. Then MOVER will ask if you want to put them in an existing album or create a new one. Then MOVER copies (or cuts) them and you open the next one. If you only have one drive MOVER can handle that also. <GEOS-TIM> One of the features I like about Photo Mover is that it moves the labels with the photo when using 2.1 albums. But, what if as you were going through your albums with PM. you ran into an album that was 1.0? <Rick Coleman> Photo Mover can handle both versions of Photo Albums. You can intermix the two. Mover asks which version to create. <GEOS-TIM> Rob has a question. <R.BOYLES> Rick--can tell me how you are using photo mover at the present time-ie. work,hobby. why did you create it,and how did you use it at time of it's completion? <Rick Coleman> I do some desk top publishing, and use it to grab photos for each project. It was created mainly as a tool to keep my albums organized, I have a large collection of albums and it got to where I couldn't remember where anything was! <GEOS-TIM> Looking over the docs for Photo Mover 3.0 it lists what you can do with it : One is Organize your albums by quickly grabbing related scraps from many albums and putting them into one album. How many albums will Photo Mover handle? <Rick Coleman> Mover will show the first 100 albums on a drive and can handle up to 4 drives on the system. <GEOS-TIM> Will it handle 4 drives even if your desktop only handles 3? <Rick Coleman> Yes, if the 4th drive has been installed. Usually with something other than THE desktop. <GEOS-TIM> The second thing that the docs say that Photo Mover does is: Convert large 1.0 albums into smaller v2.1 albums The third is: Special projects, use it to gather unrelated scraps for use with geoPaint, GeoWrite, and geoPublish. Are you referring to the process of making a special projects album? <Rick Coleman> Yes, it will take a 127 photo, photo album and automatically split it into the 63 photo max of V2.1 albums, prompting along the way. I like to keep special albums for each project. Then you can find the photos again if you revamp the project. <GEOS-TIM> Oh, I didn't know that !...I'llhave to try that..... One thing that 128 GEOS users will be happy about, is that you do have an 80 col version. Do the 80 column versions come packaged with the 40 col version or do you order them separate? <Rick Coleman> Both versions are packaged together <GEOS-TIM> Is there a size limit to the photo scraps that Photo Mover will manipulate? <Rick Coleman> Yes, currently the 128 version will handle scraps up to 12K and the 64 version can handle 15K. This is about 1/2 of a geoPaint page with lots of graphics in it. <GEOS-TIM> One of the things I have noticed about Photo Mover when using it, is that I find it doubles as a fast viewer of a photo album. It also moves photos between albums very fast. I really like the program. That is why I am so excited about your new program....Text Mover Could you tell us what Text Mover is? <Rick Coleman> Text Mover does the same things that Photo Mover does only with text, of course ;) It also has the same drive and file capabilities. <GEOS-TIM> It sounds great, Rick. I use it quite a bit in my newsletters. I am really happy you could be with us today.....are there any other questions?
