- Didn't I say that? :)
-
- Most all of my scratching takes place in native partitions.
-
- I usually let the files accumulate until free space begins to get scarce
- and might affect how many files I can y-modem batch. Then I batch scratch.
-
- Altho I try to be careful about it, I forget too late that I wanted to keep
- a file around a while longer. It's those times an unscratcher would be

- I get it!
-
- One other thing that might be nice is a way to rewrite the BAM/FAT after
- scratching files from a native mode partition on Ramlink or the HD.
- After scratching 200+ or more files you can see the HD hesitate while
- skipping over the empty slots left by the scratched files. Not to mention
- they never seem to fill into the slots the way you want them to.

- Just thought I'd jump in here and mention that the program ADDE for both the
- 128 and 64 modes will work just great on shortening up those DIRs with many
- scratched files AND will help recover any scratched files as long as they have
- not been overwritten.
-
- Yes, the program will work on those USR files just as well as PRG, SEQ, REL,
- DIR, and CBM....And none of the extra info that GEOS adds to the Directory
- entry will be lost.

- Just a short plug for one of my own programs HeHeHeHe ;)

- I have a question re: RAMLink SIMM requirements.
-
- The SIMMs have to be at most 120 ns, right? Will 80 ns SIMMs work in a
- RAMLink? How about so-called "low-profile" SIMMs?
-
- (The reason I ask is, I occasionally run into people around here who have 1 MB

- If you can get them for free 100ns would probably be okay.
- Though 80ns is the standard for most computers and if I had to pay for them
- I would buy these so when the time came I could easily sell them.
- I would also invest the extra $4 per SIMM and get a x9 vs. x8 SIMM.
-
- BTW: I doubt you could find a 120ns anyway. The most popular speeds are
- 80, 60, 100 ns.

- partition #31 8192 block dacc
- partition #1 1581
- partition #2 1581
- partition #3 1571
- partition #4 1581
- partition #5 1581
- partition #6 1581
- partiton #7 1541
- partition #8 1571
- partition #9 1581 As soon as I would create any partition over #4
- any program I would try to run would automatically swap Ramlink from device
- #10 to device #9. If I deleted the partitions in reverse order the problem
- would vanish once I deleted partition #5. I've gotten things to work by

- partition #31 512 dacc

- partition #3 1571
- partition #4 1581
- partition #5 1581
- partition #1 1581 (Gateway)
- partition #6 1581.....and so on. Gateway wouldn't run properly until
- I used up all the REU RAM. I don't know what the problem is and would like to
- use my 2meg REU as an REU and not as RamLink ram. Help! :( Rob ): *SN

- "populate r4 for c128 ram expansion. Do not populate r4 for C64

-
- These are less then $2 for a pair so you might as well try that.
- They have them at Radio Shack - they are a bit large - bend it in

- Mike,
-
- You can safely disregard that warning that Tenex inserts.
-
- In the unlikely event that there are any timing errors when using a 1750
- with the Extender Cable, it can easilly be shortened.
-
- I've used this cable with both a flat 128 and 128D, connecting a 1750 to an
- expansion port switch with the former, and RAMLink with the latter.
-
- As far as the real 1750 goes, which is what I believe you have, you
- shouldn't have any probs. I have not tried this with 1750 clones or other
- devices (other than two QBB's which worked fine), so cannot be certain
- whether or not other cartridges might present some prob. I quess that is
- why there is that warning.
-
- As for Wizard it does not require a 1541 emulation partition.
-
- I run mine from a native mode partition, although I do a software swap
- to change RL to drive #8 before running it. Not even sure if this may be
- necessary though.
-
- Have you tried downloading a fresh copy of Wizard to see if there is any

- If you attempt to use an extender cable, be sure to run the RAM TEST
- extensively to assure yourself that it will not introduce timing shifts or
- noise. Also run the HARDWARE TEST, as the timing of RAM may not be detrimental
- while other timing shifts can occur due to different loading factors.
-
- There is also a 'right-angle' cartridge which is sold by Cartsoft Services

- was designed specifically for the purpose of using with RAMLink and an REU. It
- allows the REU to lie flat on top of RAMLink. I don't have the info on

- About that REU adaptor from CartSoft...using extends the REU flat towards the
- rear (extended off the back) of RAMLink. Since the Pass-Thru port is towards
- the front, it is still available for use, and not blocked.

- What type of partition should I make for "Big Blue Reader"? What size?

- I made mine a 1581 partition and added a couple of additional utilities
- inside the partition that I find useful when doing text transfers.

- Geocable is a way to hook up a cable from your printer to your RS232 port.
- Jim Collette recently uploaded the file explaining how to do it to lib #35.
- The advantage is faster printouts, especially if you are using a laser
- Postscript printer.

- Doug,
-
- After the second RL battery gets charged, how should I hook up the two
- batteries? Would this be at the battery terminals?
-
- Since I'm into ascii graphics today, here's a picture of the tops of the
- two batteries:

- I can't figure out if the pluses get connected together, or if a plus goes
- to a minus, so I figured I'd ask... :)

- Plus to plus, minus to minus. This puts them in parallel, which causes current
- to be additive while voltage remains the same. Hooking them up the other way
- (serially) would cause no increase in current capacity, but would cause the
- voltages of the two units to be added together - and that could damage your
- RAMLink.

- A flashing error lamp on a RAMLink just after power-up can mean one of several
- things...a bad ROM, timing errors, or default partition set to a DACC...and
- any of these can spell trouble, though the DACC as a default usually might
- only cause some odd quirks under certain software.

- It appears that the error light was concerned with a loose jumper
- wire.Unfortunately,I pulled out the
- battery back-up,while reaching for it.
-
- It appears that my expanded REU 1764 to 512 has a bad component. It shows up at
- different locations
- with and without the extender cable.Who repairs these??

- I have already replied in Cat 4 - topic 7.
- How about if we carry the repair of the REU on there instead of this topic.
- If my suggestions do not work, there are still more options available
- without sending it out.
