- I have never done it, but toyed with the idea. My intention was to tae

- All hi-res files are in very similar format, at least Koala, Doodle, Print

- matter of a 2 byte load address adjustment. I would suggest you look to
- commodore's decompression routine. I was planning on reversing the logic (I

- There is an excellent arc/de-arc file in the software library. I think it's

- I am not an MSDOS user as yet, or an Amiga user either, but I believe that
- the ZOO format is used exclusively on those higher end machines. If you are
- interested in ARC programs there are a ton of them on GEnie. The one I'd
- recomment is ARC 2.30. You can also get the ARC aid program mentioned
- previously. I believe it includes an ARC to SDA converter. I also think
- there are easier programs to use to do that. The version of ARC that I have
- had no trouble at all with is ARC 2.30. I personally stay away from ARC 2.50
- as I've had a lot of troubles with it when it came time to de-ARC files.

- Stanley, a couple of questions:
- 1. Did you 'INSTALL' ARC128?
-
- 2. Is ARC128 on your disk, after SDA'ing?
-
- 3. If 1. is no, and 2 is yes, then type 'A:ARC128'<return>, and
- the commands should be displayed. Type A:ARC128/x or
- A:ARC128/e with CSDOS in drive 8, along with the proper drive
- and file name of the arc you want to dissolve, or....
-
- 4. If 1 is no, then read the doc files about install, 'cause
- ARC128 does not come installed per the autoexec. Use the Type
- command to read the docs.
-
- ARC128 is disk based, if not installed in RAM.

- Yes to both questions. I did install ARC128 into the REU and after typing in
- ARC/X all I got for a response was ?syntax error and then READY. This was of
- course after I got the menu for ARC. This seemed to be AOK but could get no
- response from the ARC program. Then tried to load ARC128 directly from the
- disk into core but this gave a [D [Ddifferent problem... the program would
- not even load. Got a systeerror trying to load the program like it could not
- recognize it as a program at all. I tried downloading the whole thing again
- thinking maybe I had a bad download but got the same results the second time.

- If I could make a suggestion, go back to the original SDA file (which would be
- file #7799, CS-DOS15.SFX) and after formatting a brand new disk, load the file
- into the 128, and dissolve it to this fresh disk. Do not place any other files
- on this disk. Now RUN"SHELL and type in the commands from my previous
- message. Make sure that you do not have any fast loaders (such as Jiffy-dos,
- etc) installed.
-
- <just to clarify my 1st sentence, you don't have to D/L it again, just grab

- Problem with ARC128 is solved and it works like a champ. It was all a
- missunderstanding of the information given in the DOCs file. You do not just
- type in ARC/n, You have to enter the full name ARC128/n. The documentation
- does not make that distinction and it is a little confusing (at least to me it

- Check out PCGTERM6480.ARC in the library. If you want to just check out the

- need. Get the most recent version. (go by order of appearance in the flagship

- PCGSUPPORT.ARC and there is a color grafix module for it too. ST/R works
- excellently for this modem in tone or pulse (PCGTERM only does pulse) but
- ST/R term has dialers for several different modems (and several different
- Volks modems) intermingled and following the logic can become tired! PCGTERM
- contains only the dialing logic for the Volks 6480.

- If the carrier drop only occurs during file transfers, I would suspect the

- loads the accumulator with the wrong value before leaving the code (if memory
- serves) but I mention it as a reliable, easy to read document which can server

- I run a BBS system on my 64, usualy when I hit ctrl-g on my other 64's I get
- a boing! On this 64 I am using now, it only bings!. Also some music files
- sound funny. Would this be the SID chip and if so how hard is it to replace
- it? Could I pull the SID out of the 64C and use it on the old 64?
-
- Or could it be something entirely ridicolousley simple??
-
- Thanks!

- Jeff,
-
- A good question! So far as I know off-hand, there is no reason why the SID
- from one machine wouldn't work in another. Of course, off-hand, I don't see
- where it should make a difference. Give me a couple days to check this out to
- be sure though, and I'll get back to you....

- Hi: I was wondering if anyone out there would happen to have an old 64
- cartridge expansion called 'LA ELBOW'. It expands the cat port to two
- slots, one vertical and one horizontal. Its exactly what I need. Please leave me
- mail or give me a call sometime (301)335-8836.

- Hmm... Sounds like you have a BUSCARD II IEEE interface and want to use an REU
- with it. In my case I got around it with the APROSPAND extender. Stuck the REU
- in the 1st, Buscard second and warpspedd in the last. You can swewitch one,
- two, or all 3 off and on.
- If you cant find the ELBOW, I would recommend this expander as it hasn't
- failed me yet.
- Aprotek is a good company, I am currently using their RS232C interface to run
- my 2400 Anchor Modem (which hasn't failed me yet either) on my Commodore 64
- computer.

- I hope someone out there reads this. I have a question that has had me
- scratching my head for 2 days now. I can BLOAD a sequential file to a
- specific address SOMETIMES and sometimes it reports a file not found error.
- Now to complicate it. It NEVER works in program mode, only immediate mode. On
- a bright note, I found a cure for another problem I've had with the BLOAD
- command. Try this. Try to set a string to equal a filename, then BLOAD that
- file.
-
- EX: FI$="FILENAME":BLOAD FI$
-
- Unless I have a very peculiar 128, you will find it won't work, but this is a
- very useful operation. I found that if you precede the filename with a null
- string, it works.
-
- EX: FI$="FILENAME":BLOAD ""+FI$
-
- and no, it doesn't work with SEQ files. BTW, I am appending a ',s' at the end
- of the filename I'm trying to load. Thanx for any help. Oh, yes, I have
- tried to do the load in ML and it fails the same way. (1581 and 1571 before
- you ask)

- Has no one seen the fix recommended by Matt Desmond. It is on all of the
- local boards I get on. I'm not a Desterm user, but the fix for the 1670 if I
- remember correctly is to open a channel to the modem from a small BASIC
- program before booting up Desterm. Something like: OPEN 2,2,2,+chr$(8) That
- may not be the exact recommended sequence, but the open of the file is the
- fix for the 1670 problem everyone in this topic is asking about.

- For those people who were getting garbage in the display with desterm i
- recently had that problem after getting a reu. I first thought it was the reu
- causing the problem but it did it even after unplugging it. I finally
- discovered that something in the des.setup file was causing the problem. I
- deleted it, then renamed the setup.1200 to des.setup. I havent had the

- I'm looking for some help with the software libraries download section. For
- the last month or soo, if the download is aborted, GENIE will come back saying
- "Download aborted by user" and give the download information. After this when
- it gets back to the Page 626 prompt it will not take any input from my
- computer, all it says is "line too long - retype it". I tried using control
- C, control X, and the escape key but none of this makes any difference. The
- only way out of GENIE that I have found is to hang up. I would like to find
- out what is the problem. Is it my terminal program or is it just the way GENIE
- is suppose to work?

- I am selling my Lt. Kernal 20 meg hard drive. This is an excellent unit that
- has never given me a moment's trouble and is a great investment. Includes
- manual and latest DOS version. I am starting the "bidding" at $600, which is
- nearly $300 less than the usual purchase price. If you are interested,
- contact Julie Rhodes at 614/464-5637 9-5 Ohio time. I will ship via UPS or
- whatever mail service you prefer. Family considerations require that I retire
- from being a sysop for a while, so make me an offer. You can leave me EMail
- but it may take me longer to get it, so call today! Serious offers only
- please, no trades.
