- GEOPUBLISH TAKES DESKTOP PUBLISHING TO A NEW
-
- DIMENSION FOR COMMODORE USERS
-
- BERKELEY SOFTWORKS announces the release of "geoPUBLISH". The
- following is the text from their release information brochure.
-
- CHICAGO, IL - - Commodore personal computer users can expect to
- dramatically expand their system's desktop publishing capabilities with
- a new software package called geoPublish from Berkeley Softworks,
- creators of the award-winning GEOS (Graphic Environment Operating
- System) program.
-
- Using geoPublish, users can create multiple page, multiple column
- documents such as newsletters, freely mixing text columns, graphic
- images and line graphics on each page.
-
- "geoPublish takes Commodore users running the GEOS operating system a
- whole dimension further with desktop publishing," states Brian
- Dougherty, CEO of Berkeley Softworks. "Those who take advantaage of
- this exciting new product will discover that it costs 90 percent less
- than the best-selling desktop publishing programs on the market today,
- yet offers 80 to 90 percent of the functionality of popular packages
- such as Aldus' Pagemaker for the Macintosh and IBM-PC."
-
- Using geoPublish, users can create a customized master page which
- contains graphics and text to appear on each page of a document.
- Master page definitions can also be loaded from a library or saved for
- later use.
-
- Layout becomes a simple task with geoPublish. To begin, the user
- designs the layout by defining rectangular regions on each page of a
- geoPublish document. Text flows into columns, automatically continuing
- onto later pages as necessary. The text retains all information from
- the source geoWrite document, including font style and size, tabs,
- centering, justification, paragraph breaks, and embedded graphic
- images. When text is edited, it will automatically reflow to fill
- columns again. During or after this process, graphics or photos can be
- pasted onto each page and cropped, centered or scaled to fit. If the
- graphic images overlap text regions, the text automatically reflows
- around the graphics.
-
- The entire layout of any page can be easily modified by moving and
- resizing regions using the onscreen ruler and guidelines for precise
- placement. Text is then automatically reflowed into the new layout.
- Page layouts may be loaded from a library or saved in the library for
- future use.
-
- An onscreen tool box allows users to choose the graphic tools they need
- to draw lines, rectangles and circles in different widths and patterns.
- Overlapping graphics can be placed behind or in front of text columns.
-
- "GEOS Mega fonts increase the designer's flexibility for desktop
- publishing," explains Dougherty. "With geoPublish, the user has access
- to additional fonts for headlines up to 48 points, the standard size of
- a daily newspaper masthead."
-
- Before a desktop publisher prints out the document, he or she can
- "preview" all pages on the screen and zoom into any particular area of
- the page for viewing actual size of graphics and text.
-
- The finished product can be printed on any GEOS-compatible printer. A
- special Post Script driver allows printers like the Apple LaserWriter
- to produce near typeset documents.
