- If you have an older 1571 with the old ROM that does not recognise a
- flippy correctly the drive will sit there for a few seconds making
- strange sounds as it tries to recognise the disk. If you format a
- 1571 double sided disk and try to access it and the sounds go away
- you know the strange noises are from the old ROM and the drive trying
- to access the disk incorrectly.

- Arthur,
- To use the 1571 in double sided mode on the C64, try either u0>h1 or u0>m1...
- Can't remember which it is right now. There is a full dicussion of this in the
- hardware area, though, that you might want to check out. Just do a keyword
- search of the word 1571.

- How to use a 1571 in 1571 mode on a C-64.
-
- Enter this command at the READY prompt:
-
-
- OPEN15,8,15:PRINT#15,"U0>M1":CLOSE15
-
- The 1 in the "U0>M1" command is the KEY! Change the 1 to a 0 to put the 1571
- in 1541 mode.
-
- If you have JiffyDOS, use the DOS Wedge, or some cartridge or program that
- lets you enter DOS commands, simply type:
-
- @U0>M1
-
- or just U0>M1 by itself.

- When I have my 128 in C64 mode, U0>M1 puts the 1571 (device #8). in 1571 mode.
- Would this put a second 1571 (device #9, say) in 1571 mode?

- One thing is the 1902a had design and manufacturing problems and is sometimes
- known as the "snap, crackle, pop" monitor.
-
- First it starts making snapping and crackling noises (arcing out to
- ground inside the monitor itself?) and then one day "pop" your
- monitor no longer works.

- That u0>m1 command will do any 1571 you send it to... just make sure
- the channel you send the command over is the one you opened to the
- desired drive.
-
- I thought the diff. betw. 1902 and 1902A was that the 1902a had the
- greenscreen button... it eliminated color and emulated a monochrome.
- I had an a and it has a known problem with loose solder connections
- affecting the flyback transformer.... the symptom was a screen display
- that would disappear, but you could beat on the monitor and it would
- sometimes come back... hehehe My wife finally bought me a new monitor
- when she got tired of the beatings.... (on the monitor)

- Concerning 1571 mode, YES the U0>M1 command works on ANY number device as
- long as the device number specified is for that drive. To spell it out in
- long form, for device 8 you would enter this command at the READY prompt:
-
- OPEN15,8,15:PRINT#15,"U0>M1":CLOSE15
-
- For drive 9, simply use the same command, except change the 8 to a 9 in the
- OPEN command (OPEN15,9,15:PRINT#15,"U0>M1":CLOSE15). The same would hold true
- if you 1571 was set at device 10, 11, etc.
-
- On the 1902 subject... My friend also had a 1902A that needed to be hit upside
- the head when the screen blacked out. The problem was cracked solder joints
- on the power supply board. Once those were touched up, it once again worked
- like a CHAMP!

- If you find one, let me know. I need a second one so I can operate my modem
- off of and won't have to keep carrying the one I have back and forth between

-
- Since CMD is now selling Aprotek products, maybe CMD-Doug can check with them

- Aprotek no longer makes the Universal RS-232 interface, but they do still make

- No. Not the Aprotek. The item I am looking for allows you to use a Commodore

- I'm wondering if anyone out there could provide me with the pinout for
- the C128 power supply. I recently obtained a 128 for the purpose of
- experimenting with some ideas I had for expansion. 3 of the projects I would
- like to work on are: a harddrive interface, an IBM floppy controller
- interface, and an expansion backplane.
- Unfortunately, I didn't receive a power supply with the 128 and would
- prefer anyway to either adapt an IBM supply or make one that's a bit beefier
- than the stock supply. I have done this with an Amiga 500, which by the way,
- has a square power supply connector as well. The manual I got with this

- I would appreciate this tid bit of information and would gladly and
- freely share all the information involved with these 3 projects including the
- software.

- No, Stan. Sorry, got confused there when all I saw was Harold's response. What
- you're looking for is an interface that was made by Omnitronix that adapted
- Commodore printers for use on MS-DOS machines. These have been out of
- circulation for about a year now, and they were the only ones who made such an

- I managaged to pick up a bunch of "stuff" at a local swap meet, and some

- appears to be a dongle. It attaches to the cassette port and has a

- For a real clean one with the original box that would be the most I would
- pay someone for it. (after trying to haggle the price down to $35)
- The fact that it is a Commdore ready Printer is a plus also.

- That printer has adjustable tractor feeds that will expand to that size.
- Regular 8 inch tractor feed paper works great.
-
- I have owned The Okidata (its still in the family) and currently use
- a Okidata 180, which is just a faster version of the 120. The 120

- Great for utility printing and stuff like that.
-
- The only problems I have experienced are blown fuses in the printer.
- Also print ribbons are easily purchased everywhere for reasonable
- prices.

- Yes, they should both slide back and for about an inch or so on each side.
- There should be a little lever on top of each mechanism that releases its
