  117.  It's my quess that they should work just fine with a 128.  As long as they
  118.  are connected a computer that also uses a similar or compatible 9600 baud
  119.  modem.
  120.  
  121.  The important thing for compatibility (if you plan to use it here with
  122.  GEnie and other 9600 bps bbs's) is how closely it conforms to today's
  123.  standards.
  124.  
  125.  I believe that the tricky part is for the older modems to negotiate the
  126.  9600 bps with modems using today's standards.
  127.  
  128.  On the other hand, if you can put a pair or more of the modems to dedicated
  129.  use, then they will be big bargains!

  154. I can see that there is some interest and some confusion about the 9600 baud
  155. data modems, so I'll tell you what I know about them.  They will work with any
  156. RS-232 converter and the 128 or 64 and also with the amiga.  Below is as
  157. complete a description as I know how to give as to the operation of these
  158. modems.  I emailed this to an interested person, so I may have addressed some
  159. specific questions, but it is good info none the less.  Oh yes... Sorry for
  160. the late reply to the messages.  Anyway here goes... Hi Sorry about the late
  161. reply, but I only get on GEnie once or twice a month.  About the Rixon
  162. Modems... I wanted to make sure you understand that these are NOT phone
  163. modems.  They are designed to work over dedicated two (half duplex) or four
  164. (full duplex) wire lines and will work with lines of up to 11 miles or so. 
  165. They can be used with telephone company lines, but in a different way than you
  166. are used to using a modem. They don't use a nice standard instruction set like
  167. Heyes compatibles and the like.  They don't work with or need dial tone
  168. because they don't dial numbers.  They only allow two computers or terminals
  169. or whatever to talk between themselves on a 'private' dedicated line. I
  170. suppose a regular dial type line could be used, but it would always have to be
  171. in an 'off hook' condition  (a seperate phone would be used to dial the number
  172. and bring the line off hook). These kind of modems are used alot to
  173. communicate between different rooms in the same building or between different
  174. buildings that are not too far apart (no more than 11 miles in this case). 
  175. You could even use these to communicate between your computer and your
  176. neighbor's computer if you wanted to!  They will run at from 1 to 9600 baud. 
  177. The end devices are what select the speed of communication and the data modems
  178. just pass the data through to the remote end device.  Data modems do not set
  179. the communications like phone type modems do. I hope I have caused
  180. understanding instead of confusion with my explanation.  If you are still
  181. interested (I do have some left), send me a large SASE and I will send you a
  182. copy of the documentation on the rixon modems (it's 34 pages, double sided).

  185. outputs from IBM type computers.  I was told by a person I talked to while in

  474. For sale:  Commodore 128 (flat model) with upgraded 64K video ram and JiffyDOS
  475. 6.0.  Going with it is as follows.
  476.  
  477.  1541 disk drive.  This drive works to store and retrieve data formatted by
  478. another drive.  Formatting on this drive causes disk errors.
  479.  1571 disk drive with matching JiffyDOS chip to the 128
  480.  1581 disk drive with matching JiffyDOS chip to the 128
  481.  1750 RAM
  482.  1351? Mouse
  483.  Nearly complete GEOS Package.  Only program I know of that I don't have is
  484. GeoPublish and some duplicates of 64 add-ons.
  485.  Several software packages including the Carmen Santiago series, Flight

  502. Well, this has been here now for 4 weeks and not one contact about it. I have
  503. to get rid of everything so will lower the asking price to $300.

  505. That's $300 for a flat C128, 3 disk drives, 1750 RAM, mouse, almost all of the
  506. GEOS software made, loaded with more software than I can think of off the top
  507. of my head.

  527. difference is that I guarentee you that one of the memory chips is bad. It
  528. worked for me the first day, but failed after I let it 'cook' for 24hrs. Email
