- system
- unless you have second storage device present, that is if you want to fully
- utilize your system as you were able to do with a 41- 71- 81.
-
- Of course you can spend the extra bucks and buy a program by a third party
- for A LOT of moolah and hope it works.
-
- I know that that I will get some flack for my above comments, and maybe
- I am wrong in expecting more then I am entitled to.
-
- And even after the smoke clears, the reality of the situation sinks in,
- we rub are eyes and take a deep breath.... and let out a little sigh of
- relief. Thank God CMD makes these things!! They are the best Drive
- I have ever used.

- I use a public domain single drive file copier in the 64 mode called UNI-COPY.
- Its been around about 10 years, and is written in basic/ML combination that is
- most agreeable to copy most files. I've also used a copier called BBI-COPY
- which is public domain, its big claim to fame is being able to copy REL files.
- You could search the GEnie library here for either one of these file copiers
- for the 64. They both work with the FD for copying single files on a single
- drive.

- Bob replies,
- Uni-copy (supplied on the disk that comes with the original commie drive)...
- This program will not work on a single drive.
-
- After searching through my own software piles I found a REAL OLD program
- called Fast Back-em by Mike J. Henry.
- It works in c-64 mode just fine and will copy files on one drive fine.
- It recognizes CMD native mode partititons and switches between them using the
- cp command. It may be limited in the amount of files it can read off a
- directory though. Also, It has a little glitch, you have to turn off the
- computer to get out of the program. But it works.

- You are right, it was called One-Copy. Uni-Copy is a dual drive file copier,
- but BBI-Copy will definately work. I've used Fast Hack'em for copying, and it
- works. Also, very old versions of Di-Sector will work.

- CMD-DOUG:
-
- I can not find the original message itself again, but I recall you recently
- replying to someone that CMD had made inquiries into the possibility of
- acquiring the rights to Commodore's 8-bit technologies, but "expected nothing
- much to come of it".
-
- I am curious as to why your expectations are low concerning this.
-
- Was it:
-
- (a) The trustees/court overvalued it and set too high a minimum bid.
-
- (b) They undervalued it so much that they did not seem to take
- seriously anyone inquiring about it.
-
- (c) Other (fill in the blank) <grin>

- The reason is that the trustee's aren't technical. They have no desire to
- break things up and cause possible problems for support or create a situation
- where several companies would have to work together just to be able to get all
- the parts they need to produce any of the products. So everything is going to
- a single bidder - lock, stock and barrel. That pretty much leaves small
- companies like us out in the cold. However, once everything is said and done,
- there's going to be a company out there with the rights who probably has no
- plans to do anything with them. At that point, we can persue some ideas with
- them.

- That is what the Commodore SIG manager on Delphi pointed out to me when I
- mentioned this to him. Nice to get a confirmation that is the reason,
- however.
-
- Also, it is encouraging to see you plan to contact whoever wins the bid. That
- was my next suggestion. <grin>

- CMD has been recently introducing great new products like the mouse and the
- trackball. Well, I have a suggestion: I NEED a control yoke to use with my
- Microsoft flight simulator and Grand Prix Circuit F1 racing. If anybody at CMD
- is reading this, please take it into consideration! As for the rest of you
- racing and flying fans, lets here it from you so maybe we can get something
- started... Thank you for allowing me to grovel and beg.

- What would be neater would be to have an IBM analogue to CBM digital joystick
- converter. Then you could use IBM yokes, or joysticks, or any number of other
- fun toys.

- CMD or JBEE
-
- Timeworks has stopped supporting the c128 series which I use. They
- always advertised full capatibility between products including their Partner
- cartridge. But the cartridge crashes their other programs in memory.
- Since I use Jiffy Dos and have a 1750, 1581, and two 1571. I can use
- Geos 128 but have never been happy with it.
- Maybe somebody could stike a deal with Timeworks. Work the bugs out so
- you could load their software into a ram expander.
- Use bank one for Word writer, bank two for SwiftCalc, bank three for
- Datamanager, bank four for Sylvia Porter.
- Replace the Partner cart with a chip to go into the free socket in the
- 128. To control the REU and give you all the goodies that came in the cart.
- Also sell the software on 1581 disks.
-
- This is superior software but needs an update. I would buy new
- versions that would perform as fully intergaded software.
-
- Just Wishing ;]
-
- P.S. are there any drivers for an atari track ball Geos or otherwise?

- FYI, we had talks with Timeworks a few months ago, but they weren't very
- fruitful. I doubt you'll see any re-release of their titles at any point in
- the future.

- RE: Timeworks
-
- I doubt it, Fred. Timeworks was willing to make more WW6(64), but only if a
- minumum of 1000 copies were purchased. While we could see selling 200-300
- copies in a year - possibly - there was little chance of selling 1000 copies
- in a very long time, if ever. They were unwilling to negotiate any royalty
- arrangements to allow us to produce the product ourselves, and they wouldn't
- entertain any talks whatsoever concerning their 128 product line.

- From talking to various people and companies I gathered Timework's
- refusal on the Commodore 128 products was tied to the fact so many
- different people worked on the C-128 products. There was not an easy
- way to secure the release on the products? Same thing with some of the
- Compute stuff.

- That's quite possible, JBEE. Regardless of their reasons, it very much appears
- that we've seen the last of these programs. Sad, because the were certainly
- amoung the best created for the 128.
