- What to do if you are using a Hayes compatible modem via a Jameco JE232CM
- or other User Port to RS-232C adapter that does not pass DCD through from Pin
- 8 of the RS-232C connector to Pin H of the Commodore 64/128 User Port
- connector.

- HELP!! I have a Jameco JE232CM and a noname RS-232C adapter for the C-64.
-
- The no-name is similar to the Jameco in design, but includes a DTE/DCE
- converter via a reversible jumper on the board (nice!). What's not so nice
- is
- that neither board has any connection whatsoever to Pin 8 of the RS-232C
- side,
- or Pin H of the User Port side. Pin H brings the Data Carrier Detect (DCD)
- signal into the C-64 (PB4 on the 6526 CIA chip), where the software (such as
- Wizard) expects to find it. Obviously, without any connection on these pins,
- the signal just isn't going to get through. "Hotwiring" them won't help,
- because RS-232C spits out +/- 12VDC, and the C-64 User Port wants +5/0VDC
- (TTL). Is there any way to tell Wizard to assume Pin H/PB4 is always on
- instead of always off?
-
- Before you ask, yes, I DID set Dip Switch 6 to Up in my modem, thus
- enabling its DCD to follow real-life DCD. I looked very carefully at the
- traces on both interface boards. Pin H has no trace. Period. Ditto for Pin
- 8 on the RS-232C DB25 female connector side.
-
- Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks. Please send GEmail to let
- me know you have responded here. Thanks again.

- Well, John, there are many choices in the FlagShip libraries. The
- all-around best one, IMHO, is NOVATERM. I'm afraid I don't know the
- file numbers, but do a keyword search on NOVATERM and things should
- be okay. :)

- Mr. JBEE
-
- Whatever happened to BELLTERM? Thought you mentioned at the X-MAS BASH that it
- was ready for DownLoad. Or maybe that was UpLoad?. Heck, after a couple of
- Roses' drinks, who knew the difference between UP & DOWN anyway? ;) :)
- hehehehehe......
