- Does it only lock up with some software?
- Did you change computers?
- Is the connector (i think these draw power from the computer) on tight
- Is it plugged into the wall?
- What printer are you using and what is your system setup?
- Do you have any "clone" drives on your system

- I hope this letter is correct in this topic ...
-
- I've uploaded a few files :
-
- NLQPRINT.PRG => the programm NLQ Print
- INFONLQ.TXT => a few words about the programm, Shareware Info
- PRINTME.NLQ => the description to the programm
- ROMAN.NLQ => a special font for NLQ Print
- SANSERIF.NLQ => a special font for NLQ Print
-
- ALL files are converted with CONVERT 2.1 !
-
- I haven't the SFX Programm so I uploaded directly the converted GEOS Files.
-
- NLQ Print prints the Geowrite Documents in NLQ Mode with all used GeoWrite
- Styles (of course your printer can print them!).
- You don't have to use special keywords (you know the print Driver NLQ-Special
- ?). Only run NLQ Print ...
-
- The programm is originally written for the printer modell "Apex 80", this
- modell is compatible with Epson LX-400, a 9 pin printer. (I hope this modell
- name is usual in US)
- This Epson printer has 2 internal NLQ Fonts: Roman and Sans Serif.
-
- If you want to see what you will print correct on the screen you should use
- the special NLQ Fonts: Roman or Sanserif ! Only by using this Fonts you get on
- paper what you see on the screen.
-
- Please note :
-
- Perhaps NLQ Print don't work on your printer modell. Or your printer has more
- than 2 NLQ Fonts you will use.
- Anyway - in this case write me and I will upload the assembler source code
- from NLQ Print ! With the source code you can change the program, fixes
- problems, or expand NLQ Print like you want ...
- (I first want to wait for reactions to NLQ Print, because I have some
- problems uploading Files per XModem with Aladding - Download is best, I'm
- looking for the reason why ... )
-
- --
-
- I hope you enjoy NLQ Print.
- Happy printing,
-
- Thomas
-
-
-
- BTW: a german programmer is writting a new pack-/archive programm; it will be
- a GEOS Programm ... I'll report if I know more about it.

- I assume this is when you are trying to print out a geoWrite file in draft or

-
- What is your (1) printer driver (2) interface (3) printer combination that

- you able to get correct geoPaint printouts?

- Yep, if you want to do NLQ, the file must be formatted in Commodore 10 point.
- Remember, NLQ uses the printer's fonts... the reason you need to use Commodore
- 10 is because it's a non-proportional font with the right spacing for NLQ
- printing.

- Correct me if I'm wrong, but I beleve that the CBM font ONLY comes in 10
- point. When you say other point sizes, do you mean for other fonts? Or in
- your printer?
-
- You can use any point size of any font if you print High Quality printing on
- a dot matrix printer. In this case, the fonts appear on the printer just as
- you see them n your screen. If, however, you use the CBM-10pt font, and
- print in Draft or NLQ mode, GEOS uses the character set internal to your
- printer. This is much faster than printing in High quality, but is less
- versatile, since you can't use multiple fonts.

- Right... if you want to use GEOS fonts, print in the "High" mode. Printing in

-
- You shouldn't have to change anything in your printer. Let me try to clear
- this up since I think there's still a little confusion. There are two types of
- printing you can do from GEOS - graphic and non-graphic.
-
- For graphic printing, pick the "High" print quality selection from the print
- box in geoWrite. (In programs like geoPaint, you automatically get this mode.)
- This is the normal way for GEOS to print - it sends the printer raw graphic
- data - in most programs, it looks exactly as it does on the screen. None of
- the printer's internal fonts are used at all because the printer is only
- printing graphics, not text... the computer has direct control over what pins
- get fired in the printhead. In graphic mode, you can use any font you want -
- it doesn't have to be in the printer (and couldn't be) because the fonts are
- all handled before the page even gets to the printer.
-
- The other way to print from geoWrite (most other programs don't even offer
- this at all) is in text mode. This just sends the text directly out to the
- printer as regular ASCII data and lets the printer use its own font. In
- theory, it doesn't matter what font you use in geoWrite itself because it's
- the printer that will print the font, not the computer. However, you should
- (must) use Commodore 10 point font to enter the text on the computer. It
- doesn't affect what the printer's font looks like - what it does is make sure
- everything gets the proper spacing. One of the main benefits of GEOS is that
- it's WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get. When you're printing with the
- printer's font which isn't on the screen, what you see isn't necessarily what
- you get. If you use the Commodore 10 font though, what you see pretty much
- WILL be what you get. That font has the same spacing as the printer's font and
- therefore you get the same number of characters (and words) on each line, etc.
- (In contrast, if you had stuck to BSW 9 point, you might easily get 100-120
- characters on a single line even though the printer will only do 80 - now the
- formatting of the printout doesn't look like the screen anymore.) So that's
- the reason you use Commodore 10 - it keeps the on-screen spacing constant with
- the printer spacing. It also is required because for NLQ printing (if you pick
- Draft, GEOS just sends straight text - NO formatting at all) geoWrite needs to
- know how many spaces to send out to get effects like centering, full
- justification, etc. If you use another font and the width of the space
- character is less than 10 pixels or so, geoWrite won't even send it out
- because it gets confused trying to format the page.
-
- So, if you want to use GEOS fonts, pick "High" when you print. If you want to
- use the printer's own NLQ font, format your text with Commodore 10 from GEOS
- (so it'll look right) and then pick "NLQ" when you print.
-
- Jim :)

- Hi-
-
- Assuming you are working with floating point numbers for your check amounts,
- probably the best thing for you to do is call the 128's (or 64's -- which are
- you on?) BASIC ROM floating point routines. This involves a little bit of
- doing, since you have to swap out the GEOS Kernal, and make sure that calling
- the ROM FP routines isn't going to trash anything that GEOS needs. I used the
- floating point routines for my programs RPN (which are here in Library #35).
- If you like, I can upload the source code to those. Originally, when I wrote

- As for the PutString/GetString text lining up, the offset of 6 comes from the
- distance from the top of the BSW 9 font down to the baseline. GEOS isn't
- completely standard because some routines take a Y value that is a baseline
- and some take one that's where the top of the font should go. PutString takes
- a baseline Y value and GetString wants the top so that accounts for the

- Aha, yes, that would do it, the 128 and the 64 had completely different input

- one computer the bulk of the input driver's code is before the jump table, and
- on the other the bulk of the code is after the jump table. I forget offhand

- However, I thought that Steve said that he got one of the inkwell drivers off
