- Well its nice to see that the center of the Geos world will be here on The
- Commodore Flag Ship of GEine. The reason I asked in the first place was that
- while reading past issue of Run and Compute Gazette alot of special files that
- were uploaded to Q-Link for owners of Geos prg to correct bugs and so fort
- seem to me to be important enough to obtain. Also is there any chance that CMD
- will be producing a 3.5 Geos boot disk in the future?

- No. Our agreement with Geoworks does not allow for that. But then, it's pretty

- You can make your own GEOS boot disk with the Maverick program, I finally did
- and it's nice to put all those 3 double sided disks on 1 3 1/2!
-
- I didn't see the GEOS area on Q-Link lately, but as of the first weekend of
- the new year, Q-Link was still around, if you call it that. I use our user
- group disk now, cancelled my own account back in Sept. Got really tired of the
- areas stating "No longer available" or "Currently unavailable, check again
- later".
-
- It's funny to see that Geoworks still won't allow you guys at CMD to do any
- changes to their GEOS products, since they have abandoned us anyway. I found
- that proof when I asked about support in their own area on GEnie, and they
- said nope! I am surprised that the GEOS products are still selling at a very
- high price still.

- GEOWORKS has a core technology (GEOS) which they use in all their products,
- and after reading an interview with B.D. I bet they are using it in the
- new P.D.A.s
-
- So, I do not think it is surprising that they will not allow people to
- use the source code. Also, the source code is worth much much much more
- to a product usually than the right to reproduce the software.

- If anybody needs any help with any particular command in geoSHELL just leave a
- message here. Also, with the new geoSHELL Programmer's Development Package
- that is now available and online here, I might be able to help with any
- question that might arise from the use of this package. Also, if anybody has
- discovered anything interesting that they are able to do with geoSHELL, please
- post a message here so that other user's can share in your experience. From
- time to time, I will leave hints and tips on using geoSHELL. Here's the first
- tip: Whenever you type in a filename, geoSHELL will first assume it to be a
- command. If it does not find a command of that name, then it will look for a
- file to load and run with that name. This is why the drives appear to be
- searched twice. Commands take first priority. If you wish to get a little
- quicker response, use the command 'run' followed by the filename instead of
- just typing in the filename by itself. Or you might also try using wildcards.
- Since wildcards are not allowed in commands, geoSHELL will bypass looking for
- a command if you use a wildcard in the filename. All it takes is at least one
- asterisk or question mark somewhere in the filename you type in. You might
- also consider assigning your most popular files to a two-character hotkey.
- These also execute immediately. For a one or two drive user, the delay while
- looking for a command is not much of a problem. But for the power users that
- are using four drives and also a path partition, a total of five sources are
- searched and sometimes the extra two or three seconds is annoying. Anybody
- that downloads and makes use of the new development package will find that it
- contains most anything you might need to write your own commands. The
- requirements are GEOS 128 or 64 V2.0, GeoProgrammer, and naturally geoSHELL
- V2.2. Plus you should have either or both of The Hitchhiker's Guide to GEOS
- and The Official GEOS Programmer's Reference Manual.

- I have a file that I am trying to spell check. It is a geowrite file (of
- course) that I started in geowrite, it is not converted from someother format.
- It has grown to 10 pages. I have moved the marjins (only the right) over to 5
- to advoid sideflipping. The paragph indicator is 2 lines in . By the way
- this is verson 2.0, I have not made it 2.1. It will spellchek up to the last
- page (or last spell chek section, it only checks 3 pages at a time and then
- checks another 3 pages etc.) and then crashes. The computer locks up and the
- screen turns to a multi-color mess. I have tried inserting many page breaks,
- changing from one format to another and back again to no avail. I have tried
- discontecting my 1750 and only useing my 1581, but it still crases. I spell
- checks fine untill it checks for the last time (useally the last 3 pages) and
- crashes. I hope some one can help me with this. I have never had this happen
- to me before and I have been useing GEOS for 5 years now. I also tried goning
- back to desktop but that did not work either. I would like to know what is
- wrong. I even tried moving the right marjin out to full right, but it still
- crashes. Does anyone have any ideas? Being a writer this is very flustraing,
- especaly to go back to the oldfashoned way of spell checking. Ouch! :((( I
- would appreacate any and all comment on this problem. Thanks in advance. :)

- EXPO A SUCCESS ! ! !
- The EXPO was a success. At the Commodore RT booth I manned, a half a dozen
- people would be there at various times watching those events on

- GEnie that many of us take for granted. A lot of their comments let me see
- just how great it is. One lady wrote an Email letter to her nephew in Florida,
- a man checked some price quotes on new cars, we peekedin on RSCards, and
- several folks looked in on our Bullitin boards in our RT.
- The LACC (Lansing Area Commodore Club) that put this on, has done a great

- Expo, they get a booth in a Computer Show. As one of two Commodore displays
- they show the world that the 64/128 is still ticking. They even draw a lot of
- folks with their outstanding SID display. In fact, the SID sounds better and
- the graphics going with the SID sound better than that IBM a few booths down
