-
- .CVT means that you need to run a Convert file like Convert 2.5 ck to Change
- the file to GEOS forma t again! If it has .CVT it is a GEOS file. Hpoe
- that helps!

- This is being sent out to all the download helpers from the Q-Link
- project. If you helped download but did not get this in mail, please
- contact "steward@shell.com" with your GEnie address and tell him you are
- one of the downloaders.
-
- -----------------------------------------------
- I'm sorry it has taken so long to get back to y'all. Everything is still
- in a state of confusion around here. I'm finally trying to answer my mail
- from October :/ My BBS has been down since October :/ I plan to put it back
- up. I also just finished reading 5 months worth of GEnie messages that I
- saved!
-
- What I was thinking, is that maybe each person that downloaded a specific
- area could be "in charge" of that area. They could list the files they
- need from Q and also accept files from other places in their topic area.
- For example, if you downloaded the 50s sid files, everyone could send you
- the 50s sid files they have that you don't have.
-
- Another idea I have had is to ask User Groups for the status of their
- libraries. We could go with the ones that seem to be the most organized
- and combine them first.
-
- On the subject of how to put the compilation out... the idea I have is to
- make the it available on a CMD HD or a CD-ROM for another computer type.
-
- I'm not actively trying out these ideas yet. Let me know what you think.
- How should we handle it?
-
- I wrote up a survey for y'all but I think I lost the disk that it was on.
- If you want to make a survey, let me know.
-
- If you are reading this, and you just want to know how to get the files,
- please wait to send me mail until we have something more concrete to go
- on. If you have suggestions, etc though, go ahead and write!

- CONTEST RULES:
-
- The Golden Spectro Programming Challenge
-
- GEnie and the Motorcycling RoundTable are the official

- their U.S. headquarters, located in Brookfield, CT.
-
- One of the most frequently asked questions of Spectro
- is "what is the ratio of fuel to oil that I should use
- in my two-stroke motor?"
-
- Answer that questin by designing a program that will
- calculate oil mixture ratios by solving for the unknown
- variable and you can win one of these great prizes!
-
- Grand Prize: Spectro Pro Racing Jacket ($100 retail
- value), a case of Spectro oil of the winner's choice
- ($100 retail value) and $100 in GEnie online time.
-
- Best in Class Winners: Spectro 1994 US Superbike
- Championship T-shirt, ball cap and a 4-pack of Spectro

-
- Program Example: If you have 5 gallons of gas and want
- a 60:1 ratio how many ounces of oil should be added to
- the gas? The program should also convert U.S. to
- metric measurements. To help our European motorcycle
- riders, they like to refer to a 50:1 ratio as a 2%
- ratio so be sure to include percentage equivalents.
-
- Required Elements:
- Oil Ratio ie. 50:1 (User will enter ratio)
- Oil Percentage
- Fuel in Liters
- Fuel in Gallons
- Oil in Liters
- Oil in Ounce
-
- Optional:
- Fuel in Imperial Gallons
-
- Important Statistics:
-

- 1 U.S. Quart = .946 Liters

- I don't think there are too many home businesses in which you can use the C-64
- for. However, that doesn't mean that you can't use the C-64 in a professional
- manner. I, for instance, use my Commodore in my work as a newspaper editor and
- I also use the various word processing programs to write magazine articles
- with. These are just two examples of how the C-64 can be used professionally.
-
- You need to be more specifically as to what you want to do.

- I have found that making fliers for local businesses is a pretty good way to
- use the C=64 for business. It helps to have a laser with Post Script. You can
- make some fantastic signs with it.

- You're right, Tim. Using PostScript with geoWrite and geoPublish you can do
- all sorts of things, like menus for restaurants, newsletters for local
- businesses, promotional pieces, professional looking resume for job seekers,
- you can even write your own book proofs with it or better yet, start your own
- newspaper or magazine. Only your imagination is your limitation.

- I have two customers that use geoPublish for their companies. One
- produces a small town local paper, though it has a dot matrix look,
- the other runs a printing business and produces newspapers and newsletters
- that look beautiful and polished. He uses geoPublish for the laser output
- that he uses to burn his printing plates.
-
- Though GEOS is the tool used to promote the business and not a business
- by itself.

- First you find what you are interested in doing and good at doing. Then you
- use your C-64 to do it. Visit the HOSB RT (Home Office and Small Business)
- on
- GEnie by typing HOSB at any system prompt, if you need ideas. A computer is
- not usually the basis or product for a home business, just the tool used to
- implement the business. Any computer will usually do for that, including a
- C-64. You could always make your living writing programs and articles for
- magazines and newspapers using your C-64.
