- I spoke to Jim Gracely at Commodore today and they are about to release ROM
- upgrades for the C-128 and 1571 disk drives to the end user. These new ROMs
- apparently will correct some of the BASIC and Kernal bugs in the C-128
- (CAPS Q bug and the relative movement in the negative directions bug with
- BASIC 7.0s graphics commands) and the problems the 1571 has with slow reading
- of 1541 disks and the problems with relative files larger than 664 blocks.
- These new ROMs are going to be made available to the end user probably through
- the service centers for a slight fee. Personally I think this is a giant
- step in the right direction for Commodore...admitting their mistakes and
- working to correct them, bravo guys. If all goes well Twin Cities 128
- should have these upgrades very soon and we will report on their installation
- and their effectiveness in our upcoming double issue!

- We should see the new ROMs in about 6 to 8 weeks. If you would like more
- information on this, see the July 7 Transcript of the comference with Jeff
- Porter on Delphi in the Flagship section. It is in the New files Showcase.

- Well, I see that a few of you have downloaded to Jeff Porter Conference.
- I would like to know what everyone thinks about it. Actually, did I do a
- good job in editing it? Really though, what are your thoughts overall. Let
- me know. Gary.

- Gary...

- As a HEAVY user of Superbase 128 I am VERY interested in the 1571
- ROM upgrades. Once you begin to use the 2nd side of the disk, SB
- is worthless. Progressive Periphs have a beta tested version of the
- new ROM and say it's wonderful! I can't wait to get it!
-
- I found the 'porter' conference very enlightening. (Good job
- editing!) It's nice to have individuals like Jeff Porter avail-
- able. I hope Deb and everyone else really encourages that kind
- of support in the future... I think it's the best kind of all...
- (next to the Flagship, of course!) <<<that was for you Deb!>>>
-
- I'll be interested in keeping informed on all developments concerning
- the ROM upgrades as well as the 1581, hard drives (PLEASE!), and
- other Commodore announcements.
-
- Thanks for your input! ....Brent

- Look for the new ROMs-probably through a mail-in offer-sometimenear the
- end of the year...from what I hear (late November...December).
- CBM Marketing and CBM Engineering aren't really in full communication on the procedures yet...but I will be GLAD to see them come out!

- The RS-232 bugs really kill the BBS programs. Looking at the Bowen file, it
- seems they missed on more RS-232 bug in GETCHAR. I sent a blurb to Transactor
- describing these faults, but I don't know if and when they will publish it.
- Meanwhile for those with eprom burners: make this fix:
- EF6A: B0 FA
- EF6E: D0 F5
- -----------------------
- F0AC: 4C F3 FE
- ----
- FEF3: 8D 1A 0A
- FEF6: 18
- FEF7: 60
- -----------------------
- THIS FIXES the carry flag bugs in the RS-232 routines.
- Also make: FC22: D1 to fix caps-lock q .

- In addition to the listing provided by Fred here, Twin Cities 128 is going
- to have some supplementary material on the ROM upgrades in the upcoming
- Issue #12. Also I have spoken with Fred Bowen about joining us online
- for a C-128 conference, and he said he would be delighted. After CES
- I am going to try to schedule him for sometime very soon (things are
- really busy for those guys as of late) so watch for an announcement
- soon. Fred is a very nice guy and I think you find him very articulate
- and willing to answer all of your questions.
