- Well, using Wizard takes the "harder to use" outta GEnie. ;> And I find
- QLink dead dead dead ... and more expensive to use than GEnie. So here I are,

-
- Only thing I wonder is ::why:: this bb costs online $ while other bb's on
- GEnie are free of online charges. Seems counterproductive.

- Hiya, Whizzie !!
-
- 'Tis true that this B.B. (and all other Computer Specific B.B.'s) will cost
- ya. Maybe someday we will see that changed, but right now the BEST way to use
- this Bulletin Board is with Wizard's Auto command.
- Here are some tips for keeping your online costs down:
- 1. Plan ahead. Figure out what you want to do before you go online.
- 2. Collect general information. Buffer the B.B.'s index (use the IND B.B.
- command), buffer the Major Categories in both the B.B. and Library. I'd also
- buffer the Survival Kit. Print out your buffers for future reference,
- including the Main FlagShip menus.
- 3. Order (or buffer) the GEnie Manual.
- 4. While on-line, use the MOVE command. For example 'M625;1' will get you
- directly into the FlagShip B.B. from just about anywhere online. Wizard does
- this for you!
- 5. Non-Wizard users should log on with this command:
- [at the U#= Prompt] XYZ12345,PASSWORD,625
- This command should get you directly into the FlagShip without navigating the
- menus.
- 6. Read the GENIEus RoundTable Bulletin Board for more tips and hints.
- GENIEus B.B. is a GEnie*BASIC Service.
- 7. Use Wizard's Auto B.B. grabber, and New Library File collector.
-
- Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox, and again Welcome you to GEnie !!

- Well, actually, yeah, I do that auto stuff. Wizard is super for grabbing
- messages and storing them away for me to read offline. Now if there were a way
- to tell it to do more than one thing per phone call, I'd be in seventh heaven.
- (I do so hate that automatic "bye" at the end; I often want it to pick up
- messages from 2 or 3 bb's - AND my mail. ::sigh::)
-
- Even so ... I went from "ugh, icons, I'll **never** use **that**" to "Gads,
- there's NO WAY to get along on GEnie without it!" .. in about 2 or 3 days.
-
- Nice work!

-
- Thought I had it around, but can't seem to find it. Used to call a bbs in 212
- A/C that wasn't Commodore specific, but had the most spectacular opening
- screen I've ever seen anywhere. It ran ANSI.
-
- It is called the Doctor's Board, but its thrust was mostly about motorcycling,
- which didn't interest me, so I wasn't a regular. However, whenever I felt in
- a show-off mode for a visitor, I'd sign on just to demo the intro. There are a
- few Commodore bbs's around. I'll have to hunt for the numbers and let you

- Tom,
-
- I quess you're referring to splitting a page into four parts, with one half
- the page printing upside down, so when folded it is a four paged card printed
- upright?
-
- The only utility that I know of that does this, is BasicPrint. This comes,

- Hope this is what you had in mind.

- Tom,
-
- One more thought... If all you're interested in is ordinary ascii printing,
- but sideways for a large fan-fold `pamphlet' format, you might take a look at
- Digital's Pocket Planner. Yes! Their spread sheet program. It has its own
- internal sideways printing feature, and you can easilly enter regular
- sequential test for the printout.
-
- I'm not sure sas to the extent of horizontal printing, but it should extend
- out for at least several hundred columns.
-
- The one part that would have to be attended to manually would be aligning up
- those multi-columned folds, since all you would be presented with is one large
- area in which to enter things.
-
- Hmm... Pocket Writer3 has a multi-column printing feature. Even odd/even
- page printing. However it doesn't have a sideways printing capability built
- in.
-
- I'm sorta doing this as I go along, so I'll try not to ramble too much...
- One interesting approach might be using Writer3's multi- columned feature for
- writing and editing. When done, printing to disk snd then entering that disk
- file into Planner2 for sideways printing.
-
- Ah! That might be the ticket!

- The easiest to re-config is BTPro, since it is all done from within the
- program. BTP should do nicely. Just start with its vt100 emulation, and make
- whatever changes are needed. As long as you know what the host will send, for
- example to clear your screen, entering it into BTP will have it respond
- correctly. [BTW, BTP's default vt100 settings are not complete, and several
- additions should be made for near 100% compatability.]
-
- Oh! BTP cannot respond to ANSI graphics, so if this is part of TeleVideo 950,
- then you might want to use something else, maybe BellTerm, instead.
-
- If you run into any probs with BTP, I'd be happy to set up its parameters for
- you. However, I would need a list of the TeleVideo 950 codes.

- The HD-40 is listed for $550 Five Hundred and Fifty Dollars. The price of a
- new CMD HD-40 is, as far as I know from their ad in the most recent RUN,
- $659.95 plus $25 for Shipping and Handling. Wich means I am beating CMD's
- price by AT LEAST 109.95. Plus I suspect shipping UPS ground will be cheaper
- than their listed shipping price. My HD is also loaded with Software. When you
- consider that I paid $825 total for this unit only a year and half ago, and
- that $100+ to most people is a big savings, I think my offer is very fair.
- Thank you for your interest.

- Sorry guys. I tried to reformat this messege. But I just can't seem to get it
- to edit. I really wish GEnie would come up with a better editing system. Oh
- well, make me offers! I want this stuf gone. THe only thing that the price is
- solid on is the HD-40! BTW, The mouse and REU are sold.

-
- Hello fellow Commodore 8-bit users! My name is Paul McAleer, and I'm the
- editor of Micro-Bytes. Micro-Bytes is a Commodore publication, if you'll
- excuse the term, "For the Rest of us." Each issue of MB is full of
- information you can use - ranging from gaming, home office, programming,
- hardware, software, reviews, editorials, type-ins, and much more. You'll find
- information in MB that you'll want to turn to again and again. We publish 5
- times a year, and each issue costs $2 in the US ($2.50 Canada, $3 Overseas.)
- 5 times a year...odd amount? Well, yes! But public demand forced that amount.
- We were previously quarterly.
-
- Our staff is dedicated to the survival of the 8-bits, and as for abandoning
- them, we wouldn't think of it. Our editorial schedule is finished for 1992,
- and our 1993 schedule is in the works. Topics range from desktop publishing
- to graphics to music to the Best of 1991!
-
- We firmly believe in online support, and we thank GEnie for allowing us to use
- part of the FlagShip BB. For subscription info, please read the next post.
-
- Thank you for your support!
-
- Sincerely,
-
- Paul McAleer
