Well, I admit the reasons are somewhat personal. I try to stay up to
date on the group to answer questions and what not, but lately the ads
have created a bunch of messages for me to download. As I already have t=
oo
much HW, it's just a wade through to get to the qustions people need=20
answered.
If a new groups isn't warranted, maybe if a standard, like prepending all
ads or want ads with FS: or WANTED:, I can filter all that out.....

That is true a staic mat would be better. But still grounding with the=20

static free. And yes alot of people get away with nothing, but who wants=

Concering Isopropyl alchol, rubbing alcohol will work. I know many=20
people that have done this with no problems. But I useally get about 90%=

or more alcohol, just to be on safe side. But if you are woried you can=20
get head cleaner at Radio Shack that works well. The only thing that=20
Rubbing alcohol might do is leave a little film on your heads. But the=20
chance of that is preaty remote, and would only happen if you use a ton=20
of it and left a big ammount on the heads to dry.
Concering a fan. It would only be a problem if your house was a mess=20
(dust I mean). :) And I do not mean for someone to put a fan blowing=20
driectly into the drive. Put it a foot or so back from the drive (a 6=20
inch fan works well) and have it blowing across the drive, not into it. =20
This takes the heat away with a miniaml ammount of dust enters the=20
drive. Also have the drive up on blocks (1 inch works well). This will=20
allow excellent air flow. I know for a fact this works. I had drives=20
that died on me very quickly untill I added a fan. My main 1541 is 11=20
years old and still working perfectly. :)

Hi! have a really neat command center for the 128..if you don't know what
it is...it's a case that sets up your 128 very neatly..the back of the
128 slides inside..it hides the modem and all the stuff sticking out..
has slots for 2 1571 drives..and a fan to keep everything cooled down..
when set up the 128 looks exactly like a PC...I'm getting a 128D and have
no use for this anymore$50. includes shipping

Well folks, I never miss an opportunity to buy any old C-128 power suppli=
es
that I find at the second hand stores. They work great for C-64 power
supplies. And for anyone with a C-128 who doesn't to destroy their power
supply you can just cut about 4 inches off the connector end and wire tha=
t
little piece with a connector that accepts the standard C-64 power
connector. That way when you convert the power supply it can be plugged
back into that short piece and you have a C-128 power supply again. I al=
so
used this technique to wire up a power connector for an Atari computer an=
d
it works great. They're real nice power supplies for the classic machine=

of yesteryear. One caution though, don't cross your wires or disaster ma=

result.
Good luck,

Hello,
I've bought an Amiga CD 32 yesterday and now I'm looking for the=20
advertised video cartridge which was supposed to come out in autumn
1993. Did it ever? If so, do you know a place where to get it from?
Do they mailorder? And: is there a special PAL version (which I'd
need)?
Any help or suggestions are welcome ;) Thanks.

He;s in Germany Bill, he has a Euro/UK plastic case 128D - they
have daughterboards for the 71 side, and the motherboard is a
standard low profile C128. (I have one, I converted to 110)
What he needs to know is the pinout of the internal post connector
for the C128 and how to adapt the dip header connector to a standard
serial plug.
The easiest way to go about it, would be to cut an old serial cord
in half. Separate the lines out and note the pinout with a
multimeter.
Serial port pinout:
1 srqin 5 1
2 gnd 6
3 atn 4 2
4 clk 3
5 data
6 reset
C128/Euro D internal Serial Bus Post connector:
Starting with the motherboard facing you, the #1 pin is the farthest
to the left the connector follows the same pinout as the external
connector. The 7th pin is the drive reset line.
I don't know where you would find a connector to hook into the 71
side harness cable connector though. I would NOT want to cut into
that harness 7 wire connector - those are very rare, and a
non-standard spacing. I would look for a long dip header with that
spacing in a electronics store and then just solder the wires from
the cut serial cable to the dip header and plug the dip header into
the 71d harness cable.
Finally, if you do get it all hooked up - remember to unplug the
power connector to the c128 - you never know what additional damage
you could do to an already broken 128...
Wish I could be of more help, but I'd suggest finding a good tech to
have a look at it - building cables is always that easy.

There is also one for Amiga, but can't remember the name now.

Summary: I have Lt Kernal and CMD 40 :need 7.2 DOS
Keywords: 7.2 Lt Kernal Controller
X-Posted-By: techer@206.165.5.104 (techer)
I need two things 1. the 7.2 operating system on disk in a normal
format,* i have had trouble decompressing the files in the past*
2. I need info from someone who knows how to install the 7.2 on
the LT K's controller, as i understand ,it the controller has to
be fooled into thinking 7.1 is still in place because of the=20
serial number that it looks for on starup, im assuming the serial
no. has to be transfered to the 7.2 software prior to installing
on the drive, so i need someone to tell me how to do it.

As far as I know, there is no standalone RTF converter available to
commodore users, and there is no commodore WP program that recognizes
RTF. Either of the above would be solution.

Can't help you ! Try another group ! There are several 'Amiga-Groups'.
I think there's a 'Comp.Sys.Amiga.CD32'-group !

I have three 64's (old shape) and one 64C, from car boot sales (US garage
sales?) that all appear to have the same problem - the red LED is lit whe=
n
switched on, the TV goes black/green then nothing!
I've tried with a psu that I know works, could this be the PLA chip? If s=
o,
where is this located as I have not tech info in the 64 anywhere! Getting
repairs in the UK seems a little tricky (unless anyone can help there?).
Will trying chips from my working 64 in the faulty machines damage my
working chips - or does this depend on the original fault?
Is there anywhere on any ftp or www sies on troubleshooting? I've had a
brief look but cannot find help on faulty machines?

This is for the person (sorry, I can't find your original message=20
to quote from; must be no longer on the server I use) needing a=20
correction to the program mentioned in the subject line of this message.=20
As stated in the original message, the problem occurs when line 920=20
directs the program to go to a nonexistent line 170. I found the=20
following fix in the OCTOBER 1992 issue under the heading Bug-Swatter in=20
the Feedback column (page G-16). Line 920 should read as follows:
920 ON GK GOTO 930, 1450, 110, 990
Please note: As I do not have a 128 or 128D, I haven't tried the program=20
and therefore, cannot confirm this fix will work. Usually, these fixes=20
do work when I've used them for 64 programs on our 64 for Gazette=20
programs.

How about Cinemaware's "Warp Speed"?
=20
Some good utilities on it, it changes the look of the desktop a
little, and has a reset button on it. Good speed, but not as
compatible with programs as the Epyx cartridge.
=20
The other advantage is that it has two settings on it (via a switch,
next to the reset button), one for C64 and one for C128.... Never had
a 128, so I don't know about the capabilities in that regard.

Any thrift shop or flea market is bound to have them in droves. The
Commdoore used the same stick as the Atari systems... so any Atari
joystick will work. The most common you will find is the standard
black "2600" style joystick. From thrifts, I've managed fo find 6
Atari Joysticks, one Atari "clone" stick, one Colecovision controller
(yep, same plug), a Wico "Bat-handle" joystick, and an Epyx 500XJ (aka
Konico)
I'm not a Sega fan, but I beleive that the Sega controllers (sms,
genesis) use the same input... anyone confirm that they will work on a
Commie?

Someone gave me a dead 8032 with a PETDisk II setup. It's a controller
board that plugs into the second-last ROM slot and has a WD1793 floppy
controller on it, and came with an 8" drive. Alas no manuals.
I haven't been able to get it running yet, because one of the clip
leads that are used to pick up signals from places on the motherboard
clipped onto a chip that doesn't exist in my rev of the 8032 board. It
is obvious that the clip (orange) picks up a clock, so I'll have to
borrow a 'scope to find the same frequency clock on my board as where
the lead went on the broken one.
There are a bunch of CP/M format disks, and a custom version of CP/M
for the Z-RAM board (Z80+64K) that knows about the 8" drive. However
I'm guessing that the drive also has a use in native Commodore mode,
and that's where I need some pointers. How do you access it? If I
ever get the board working, and figure out how to access the drive,
what will I find on the PETDisk II diskettes (two 8") that I have?

I don't see that happening. If we sent out evals to everyone who had
something we couldn't test, we'd probably ship 100 evals for every unit
sold. Hopefuly Mark will locate my Comal cartridge, as I'm pretty sure he
grabbed it from me back when he was testing cartridge compatibility on
RAMLink.

Well, if they do exist anymore, the choice will be theirs. While I'm sure
there are a few Comal users left around somewhere, they would appear to b=
e
pretty scarce. I recall that back in the late 80's that Abacus took over
distribution of Comal in the US for a few months. I was working there at
the time, and we never got a single request for it. Nothing against it or
anyone who does use it, but given the low amount of use it seems to have,
it won't go high on our list of things to check into.

Nothing in it yet, we're still finishing up the manual editing, and won't
have a release date until that's done.
