HI!
Well, I am really sorry for this CD and everything to be so late, but I w=
as=20
SOOO busy at the uni and with some other projects... anyway, CD is now=20
FINISHED ... it is DONE :) Now all I have to do is wait for the people at=
=20
the factory that is going to produce the CD to come from the vacation....=
=20
this should happen in a week or so, and then the CDs will come to my plac=
e,=20
I will then EMAIL everyone and POST to the news the PRICE and Paying and=20
Shipping stuff ... not before... This file is just to let you know it is=20
almost there :) Anyway, you can get the FINAL LISTS for all sections on t=
he=20
CD from following sites :
rcum.uni-mb.si
tferi4.uni-mb.si
in /incoming directory, the file is 8BITHEVN.ZIP ....
This is the Original .README file from the 8-Bit Heaven CD .... I include=
d it
for completeness... if you would like to order the CD ( when it is aviabl=
e )
or you need more info then please email to :

The CD you are looking at is probably the most complete collection of a=
ll the
memorable games of the 80's that we still want to remember and sometimes =
even
play, despite all the new super hires hicolor texture mapped light speed =
crap
we are seeing in the stores ;) (OK, some of the new ones are still good f=
un).
I have spent over 4 years collecting games and other nostalgia things f=
or
ZX Spectrum and C64 myself, so these two collections are the most complet=
e on
the CD. But since I know many of you were fans of other 8 bit machines, I
included software for other platforms like Amstrad CPC, Acorn BBC, MSX,
ColecoVision, Apple II, Atari VCS, Atari XL/XE and ofcourse all the possi=
ble
emulators for all the possible platforms that are on the CD. Most emulato=
rs
will run on MSDOS machines, but there are some inthere for AMIGA, MAC, AC=
ORN
Archimedes, Acorn RISC, etc. machines. If you cant find what you are look=
ing
for then you should look on the internet. The best sites to start at are
ftp.funet.fi and ftp.switch.ch. Otherwise you can always ask your questio=
ns
about anything in NewsGroups like comp.sys.sinclair for Sinclair computer=
s,
comp.emulators.cbm for C64 emulation, comp.emulators.misc for other platf=
orms.
Here is a small list of what is on the CD. Of course there is separate
readme.txt file for each platform in its own directory, which will explai=
n
the directory structure and specific instructions for the separate platfo=
rms.
So here is the brief listing of what is on the CD:
ZX SPECTRUM
-------------
This is the most complete collection of them all. It contains over 2500=
games
for all possible versions of ZX Spectrum, many of which are 128k games. T=
he
collection includes many Originals, Magazine Cover Tapes, everything you =
ever
wanted to see again.
COMMODORE 64
--------------
Contains over 1700 games in both TAPE and DISK format. Most of the clas=
sic
games are there... For the TAPE games to be playable on both most used
emulators (C64s and PC64) there are files in both .TAP and .P00 format.
AMSTRAD CPC
-------------
Over 600 games for this platform, in three formats ... Snapshots, Tape =
games
and Disk Images. I believe most of the classic and most wanted games are
present.
COLECOVISION
--------------
Around 140 games for this Console. I never actually saw one, but it did=
have
most of the games i loved on other computers, so I put this one on the CD.
MSX
-----
Includes games for MSX and MSX2, in both Cartridge format and Disk form=
at.
Two emulators for each game format are included and around 600 games are =
here.
BBC
-----
YES, it does include the all original - all mighty ELITE v1.0 :) Beside=
s that
it contains many more memorable games for this platform.
APPLE II
----------
This is one of the biggest collections on the cd ... and it had to be
compressed in order to fit on the CD. Uncompressed it would probably take=
up
another CD just for this platform. :) MANY games are zipped up and can be
played from your hard disk.
ATARI VCS
-----------
This is one of the first game platforms ever. Many games from the memor=
able
Atari 2600 console are on the CD... unfortunetly we are still waiting for
a good emulator, but the one on the CD will do until a better one comes o=
ur way.
ATARI XL/XE
-------------
A LOT of games for this giant (well, it used to be once) with two emula=
tors
to run them on.
The MISC directory contains stuff that doesnt fit into any of the group=
s
mentioned above, it also contains VORTEX emulation package, which include=
s
most of the VORTEX games for Spectrum, C64, CPC and ZX81 and also the
information about them.
If you want to find out more about each platform then please look in th=
e
seprate directorys for README.TXT files. Everything is explained in there=
,
including the instructions on how to use the emulators already installed =
on
the CD. NOTE: All the pre-installed software is ment to be run with SB Pr=
o
or SB 16 installed on your computer, some of it uses ET4000 card. If you =
dont
have these componets in your computer then you will be better of installi=
ng
the software from scratch on your hard disk. Everything that is already
installed is still archived in the UTILS or EMULATOR directory for each
platform.
HAVE FUN !!!

Third. I'll be subscribing to both, though. It just means that when
I'm interested in buying something I'll look more closely at the 4sale

shopping, I can ignore those posts more easily.

The best PET sighting I remember makes me laugh every time I think about =
it.
It was on an episode of the TV show _Buck Rogers_, of which I was a faith=
ful
fan back in the 80's.
Buck Rogers was sick (or injured?) in bed, and Erin Gray's character was =
there
with him. The had a PET 2001 computer on a desk or table next to the bed=
that
they used for a surveilance monitor. (It had a color TV screen installed=
into
the monitor casing!). They had Erin Gray tap out a few things on the key=
board
and the video changed. It was great! What high technology for the 25th
century! And the keyboard was even the chicklet type and the PET even ha=
d the
built-in tape deck! I laughed good and hard when I first saw that, which=
was
when it originally aired. :-)

Hi all. Still looking for c64 repair advice. A C64 that I
recently bought seems to work well, except for two problems: Joystick por=
t
2 doesn't register the UP/NORTH joystick motion, and it has some problems
displaying color. Some screens are displayed just fine; in other
instances fields which should be displayed in color are displayed only in
white. As an example: the game "Lords of Conquest" displays its map
entirely in white -- no colors to distinguish the players' territories --
when run on this machine.
Can anyone give me advice on whether this sounds like bad IC's
vs. bad internal connections? -- and if it sounds like
faulty chips -- which ones and any remarks on replacing them?
Thanks -- e.

If the morons that broke in to our hose a few years ago had been in bette=

Actually they only managed to get the sucker up from the basement. The=20

DOOM is NOT "crippleware." Crippleware is a shareware program that shows=
what
the registered version does, but doesn't actually do it; or it may drasti=
cally
hinder what the register version actually does. Typical examples of crip=
pleware
are when you have a 5-minute time limit, or a constrained size limit. Th=
e software
is actually crippled and doesn't fully function. Typically, users HATE t=
hese, but
developers LIKE them because they usually get more registers. The people=
that really
want the software outnumber those who get upset and quickly delete it.
DOOM is FULLY FUNCTIONAL. You must register to get more levels. This is=
VERY
typical with shareware -- actually, it is the norm. It is NOT cripplewar=
e.
JFYI.

Martin Maybe this will help you. I included a few extra bits and
pieces since it was all in one file anyway.
Same: Directory-File Header format and BAM format and the
directory
-sector format in the 4040 (directory blocks- track 18 sector 01 to
18)
sure sounds familiar *grin* even the "sector distribution by track"
is
the same. Memory locations and the "user command Jump table" are
different however.
In case of disk drive errors the diagnostics chart for the 4040
goes like this (according to the T Book):
Num of
Flashes | Error Cause | Component, Location
1 | Zero Page | 6532, C1, E1
2 | Rom | H1
3 | Rom | L1
4 | Rom | J1

Same: Directory-File Header format and BAM format and the
directory
-sector format in the 4040 (directory blocks- track 18 sector 01 to
18) sure sounds familiar *grin* even the "sector distribution by
track" is the same. Memory locations and the "user command Jump
table" are different however.
In case of disk drive errors the diagnostics chart for the 4040
goes like this (according to the T Book):
Num of
Flashes | Error Cause | Component, Location
1 | Zero Page | 6532, C1, E1
2 | Rom | H1
3 | Rom | L1
4 | Rom | J1
5 | Zero Page | 6530, K3; 6504, H3
6 | n/a | n/a
7 | Ram | 2114, D4, D5
8 | Ram | 2114, E4, E5
9 | Ram | 2114, F4, F5
10 | ROM | 6530, K3; 6504, H3

Up until now we've had to limit the length at 8 pages sinceit has been=20
