Woha, had to correct myself here...  It seems I spoke too soon and that
the 100K resistor will get you past the boot-up screen but (as has been
mentioned elsewhere within this thread) each module checks the dongle
status... A few of the modules, 1541 BOA included, is a bit more specific
as to what resistor will work...  In short, you must verify that the
value at $D41A is $9C.... I think this is aprox. a 146k resistor but see
below for an easier fix...

Attach a set of paddles (yes the same ones made for the atari2600...)
and adjust paddle b untill you get $9C (156) at mem. location $d41A (5429=
8)
This will keep 1541 BOA from crashing...  I examined the program and
my overall evaluation of the package is: it sucks.

Well, anyway, you guys with lost dongles can use it now...  I smell
"1541 BO/UNBO" comming to a dir. near you... then again, why bother?

Sounds like either the processor (6502) or one of the bus-drivers (74ls14
74ls06) might be one of the via's too but that's not that likely.

Adam how about using Big Blue Reader to transfer the CP/M files to CPM
formatted diskettes.   dload them with a comm program you're familiar
with, then transfer the files later.

Sorry, but the deal *isn't* closed yet.

Yes, there exist a contract between VIScorp and Escom, but it hasn't been=
 signed
yet. The boards at both companies has to aprove it and sign it, after tha=
t
VIScorp has to transfer the payment within xx days. Until then Escom is s=
till
the owner of Amiga Tech.

Since Escom is going down, this could very well stall the deal, specially=
 since
Escom now is in the hands of the same person who handled C=3D Germanys ba=
nkruptsy

I have one cable, which a switch box, which gives me these three
options:

1. 40 column video
2. 80 column video (monochrome)
3. 80 column RGBI (colour)

I have two switches, one for 40/80 and one for video/RGBI. The 40/RGBI
mode is "undefined" (as in "looks weird"). Since my TV set doesn't
give the 80 column colour its full "glory", I usually use it in
monochrome mode.

The signals you need from the computers are:

40 column video out
Audio out
- these are from the DIN port

80 column video out
80 column RGBI out
- these are from the 9-pin port

The 40/80 switch switches between putting the video out from either
the 40 column source or the 80 column source to the video in on the
SCART.

The video/RGBI switch puts a 5V (?) signal on the RGB indication on
the SCART, which lets the TV know that it's "RGB time". I have a
battery for this, but it could be taken from the ports. You also need
to convert the C128 RGBI signal to RGB, by "adding" the I signal to
the R, G and B signals if they exist. This can be done with a set of
resistors. The 80 column video out gives the correct sync information
for the 80 column colour screen, so you needn't worry about that.

Please note that I don't have all the details, since I didn't design
the device all by myself, my father did the most of the work. If you
ask any "technical" questions, I'll ask him about it :-)

Today I bought a CBM 8050 dual disk drive at a flea-market. I got it,
with complete documentation, as well as four disks of PET software and
manuals (and some manuals to which there were no matching software)
for 200 SEK (less than 30 USD).

Now, I was wondering if this beauty in any way could be connected to
my C128? It has a parallel IEEE connector, but I believe that there
are interfaces to connect them to the C128's serial IEEE bus, right?

I agree 100%.  I bought myslef a copy almost as soon as it came out.  It =
was=20
turned around and back in their hands before the weekend was over.  The=20
dongle was one of my complaints, the other was how slow the thing was.  I=
 got=20
an interesting response from MadMan though, saying that dongles were the =
norm=20
in the PC world and the software is quite fast as compared to PC backup=20
software.  I don't know what they're basing this on, but in my experience=
=20
this is not true.  A company as misinformed as this certainly deserves a =
slap=20
in the face.

It sounds like you have a 1541 transit card.  The tab on the back of the =
card=20
for the 1571 is skinnier so trying to insert a 1541 card into the 1571 ac=
ts=20
as you describe.  There is nothing wrong with your drive.  If you want/ne=
ed a=20
transit card use a regular floppy disk inserted sideways (to give you mor=
e=20
cusion than inserting it normal).

Well, if you're checking the wiring, is there a way to modify it so that =

 Ok ok.. maybe someone can help me here with this.. I looked in some old=20
issues of C=3D Hacking and in issue #006 I found a file telling me how to=

build a power supply. The article contains a file called schematic which=20
is a geoPaint picture file. Problem. I couldn't convert it with convert=20
2.5 properly. Anyone have any success with this?
