    It wouldn't fit.  The C64/128 expansion ports have a .1" spacing whil=

the Plus/4 uses .08".  Howevere, the good news is that there's no need, t=

Plus/4 has a 6551 ACIA built in, the same communications chip as the Swif=
tLink.
    There are two main differences between the SwiftLink and Plus/4 ACIA=20
setup: first the Plus/4 uses a 1.8432 MHz crystal, as opposed to the 3.68=
64 MHz
crystal in the SwiftLink.  This means the maximum baud rate of the Plus/4=
 is=20
half that of the SwiftLink, or 19,200 bps.  Second, the SwiftLink has a r=
eal=20
12v RS-232 port, where the Plus/4 outputs the same goofy 5v user port RS-=
232
configuration as the C64.  You'll need to plug in a RS232 converter into=20
the Plus/4 user port to plug in a modem.

I'm working on it.  It will have a fast Soft80 screen and fully support=20
the high baud rates through new RS-232 driver routines.  Expect to see a=20
beta in a couple of months or so.

I just d-loaded what appears to be a useful file from ccnga.uwaterloo

It is called Prn-GW-pages.zip and claims to print every second GeoWrite=20
page so that you can flip the page over and print the others on the back=20
- effectively reducing the number of pages of paper you use.  Now this=20
would be a very good program to have.  It is in a .zip format and I am=20
unable to unzip it.  I have unzip64 and unzip128 and neither will=20
recognize the file.  They keep giving me unknown compression method=20
errors.  If anyone has this GEOS file in unzipped form could you please=20
e-mail me a copy?  I have uudecode and geoPack so that would be an ideal=20
way to convert the file.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  Not as far as I know or have experienced.  Someone mentioned that one
of the pins can short the 5v line, but I have not checked.  To be honest,
I never hit START/A/C.  Just the B button that actuall does something.  I
will have to sit down with it and check the wiring, but having used them
for several years now without any problem, they seem safe so far.

I have noticed a strange phenomenon with my C64. A few days ago, it crash=
ed
when running certain demos or games. After I had located it elsewhere in =
the
room, the programmes worked just fine. Could it be possible that the C64 =
is
terribly sensitive towards electromagnetic fields, just like a radio? Or =
is
it able to repair itself?(JOKE|)
One thing, however, wasn't cured by the relocation: In some programmes, s=
peech
is terribly faint - nearly unnoticeable. (Ghostbusters and Impossible Mis=
sion
are the culprits). Normal sound works just fine. Are there slightly diffe=
rent
SIDs out there? Note: My C64 has one of those newer, flat cases.

Well said, Darvell!  I whole heartedly invite the sysop for dessert oasis
tot stay on this newsgroup and to ignore the dis-respect sometimes
displayed.  I do not disagree with their desire to see programers get
their compensation, but I do disagree with their methods of stating it.

Withe the expressionlesssness of email, we all must be careful to not
unintentionally (OR intentionally) flame.  "A kind answer turns away
wrath."

Now I would like to take this opportunity and do an "anti-flame" (if ther=

Set your MPS 1230 to Epson FX80 emulation and use the Epson printer drive=
r
in geos. If you use a printer interface ($$$$) you can also emulate an IB=
M
proprinter. It doesn't print very fast from geos, but....

For a directory try LOAD"$",8 <return> then when it has read the disk, an=
d
the ready prompt is on the screen type LIST <return>
Some program disks are copy protected and will not work with the "*",8,1
and some will not allow you to read a directory. Take a blank disk and
enter the following on the Keyboard:
open15,8,15"n0:diskname,t1" <return> this should format the disk to 664
blocks. If it doesn't work then you probably have defective drive, or
dirty heads.

Try highlighting the last file (co64dox.ca) and instead of hitting D to
download the file hit return instead and if the dosx are in a sequential
file format you should be able to read them online, or buffer capture the=
m
to find out more about the file format before you decide to download them.

It's REALLY COMPLICATED [;-) after making changes in your configure menu
hit the "S" key to "save" the config.sys file to the current disk being
accessed.

That deal fell through and recently Escom themselves have gone bankrupt!=20
They are in the process of liquidation at the moment.  I wonder who will=20
buy them out or will they be able to downgrade enough to save themselves?=

Luckily, Escom sold all of the stuff they got from CBM (including the=20
Amiga) to VIScorp, a set-top box maker in the US.  Though there are still=
=20
some minor stuff to work out that this bankruptcy in the process of the=20
deal caused.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- German computer retailer Escom AG said Monday
it was filing for bankruptcy, a victim of ambitious expansion coupled wit=

slumping demand for personal computers.=20

Escom has been in insolvency proceedings since July 2 after forecasting a
180 million mark ($118 million) loss for 1995 and continued ``substantial
losses'' in the first half of 1996.=20

But a court-appointed administrator judged Escom unable to raise enough
capital to keep it afloat until possible restructuring talks under the
insolvency procedure, the company said.=20

Escom has blamed weak demand in its main markets for its troubles.=20

German electronics giant Siemens AG holds a 10 percent share in Escom and
German mail-order group Quelle has 25 percent.=20

Escom, founded in 1986 by German entrepreneur Manfred Schmitt, started to
slide soon after buying the British store chain Rumbelow's in 1995.
Schmitt resigned last March as losses mounted.=20

Escom has 460 outlets in Europe, mostly in Germany, Britain and the
Netherlands. Others are in France, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria,
Hungary and Slovakia.=20

   I was wondering what a reasonable price for a c128 computer(with poewr

Let's face it, the license can say what ever the author wants it to say. =

And technically I suppose the buyers are bound by that agreement,=20
however, the SPA is not going to break down anyone's door because they're=
=20
running two copies of software that was properly purchased.

What is required by the license and what is realistically enforcable are=20
two very different things.  The author is never really going to have any=20
say in what I do with software in the privacy of my own home (or homes).

Don't misunderstand.  I support authors.  I don't pirate.  I'm just=20
pointing out the practical side of this discussion.

I bet it's called MULE386. The main guy, Juergen Schulze-Doebold
<[e-mail]>, said they were having legal problems
with the (former) Dan Bunten, one of the developers of M.U.L.E.

You may want to open that case on the computer and push down on all the=20
socketed chips.  They do have a tendancy to wiggle up and could give you=20
problems. =20
