You mean sets you can load into RAM? I have about 40+ of them. Drop by my
Web page every couple of days, and look in the "file requests" section. I

Hi, Jayme! Long time no type!

Something that would be helpful would be to know which version of PINE
your ISP uses. Mine uses v3.91, and I use NovaTerm v9.5 with no problem.

Something else that could cause you trouble is if your PINE isn't
configured right for the SMTP server. Just something to think about.

Ah, but the problem is that these little gems of artistic endeavour
aren't available for download, are they? So how does one who uses, as

Thanks Jonas, this'll save me a lot of hassle.

I've discovered how to convert t64 and p00 files manually...  a little
knowlegde of c64 file-structures is sooooo helpful.  (If anyone desperately
needs to know this just mail me.)

The d64 format is simple to solve too, but I'dve had to write a program for
that one...  well this'll save me a lot of time.  Thanks again.

Um, while I'm here...  has anyone got the original basic and kernal roms
they'd be willing to mail me?  I've got a 128 and two dead 64's, but I just
don't have the time to program anything to tranfer them to my amiga!

(I'd be sooooooo grateful.)

Alternatively and if you are looking for better quality, grab a WICO
Boss or Command Control joystick - same type and construction as used
in arcade machines... which of course take one heck of a beating.  The
CMD joysticks are not bad, but if you want NEVER to replace a joystick
again, for C64/128, Amiga, Sega, Atari 8-bits, etc, go for a WICO
product.

If anyone is interested, I have two WICO Command Control Joysticks for
sale, $15 each, US funds, plus shipping.

What is happening is not a computer problem, is a mismatched disk
format between a typical 1541 disk and a typical 1571 disk.  Normally
on a 1541, programs on disks are interleaved 10 sectors apart.  That
means, when a sector is full, the next sector the drive will write to
is ten sectors away on the same track, until the track is full
whereupon it switches to another track and repeats the process.  On a
1571 drive when used in 1571 (128) mode, the interleave is not ten, it
is around 7 or 4 or 5... I don't remember the number to be exact, but
that's not the issue.

What happens next is when you try to read a 1541 disk in 1571 mode or
vice versa, the drive has to seek the next sector longer because it
isn't where it should be according to how it normally operates.  With
JiffyDOS, all the numbers change, but the principal is still the same,
and in most cases, there is still a difference in sector interleave
between 1541 and 1571 modes, even on single sided disks.

So what is happening in the above scenario?  Well, if you turn on your
128 and 1571, the 1571 is actually NOT yet in 1571 mode.  It takes a
true 1571 command request to switch the drive over to 1571 mode.  After
that, the drive forever stays in 1571 mode unless you turn the power
off, or issue a change mode command to the drive... I think a reset
works as well.

So knowing that the drive is now in 1571 mode after using a 128 mode
program, you can see that entering 64 mode without changing the status
of the drive via a command or reset will yield a 64 computer running a
1571 drive in 1571 mode.  This of course means that the drive and the
disk usually will not agree on how far apart sequential data sectors
shoudl be stored on the disk and therefore the drive in 1571 mode will
generally take longer to load programs from a 1541 disk than if you
were to change the drive mode back as well.

The reason it works fine after booting in 128 mode then going to 64
mode immediately all relates back to the fact that a 1571 drive starts
in 1541 mode and needs to be told to change to 1571 mode before it will
do so.  Something as simple as a directory command should change it to
1571 mode.  to change between modes, probably using the reset button is
your safest bet without powering down.

I remember in the old days, playing a game called
Frak

you were this beast with a yo yo who had to climb around the platforms, yo
yoing all the other animals etc, picking up stuff and finally finding the
end of the level.  As far as games went then, it was OK, but the really
great aspect was the music which changed every level.  I remember getting
onto an ice level and the music was great.

This is true.  The reason is that accessing the 1571 using burst-mode
protocol (which only a 128 can do) will switch the drive into 1571 mode.
In 1571 mode, the drive is double-sided by default, and the internal CPU
steps up to a speed of 2 MHz.

If you enter C64 mode without resetting the drive or sending it a
command to force it into 1541 mode, it will remain in 1571 mode, and
most fast-loader programs will fail, because they cannot stay in sync
due to the 1571's 2 MHz rate.  Programs will usually pretend the drive
is non-1541-compatible, and just use the slow serial bus methods.

It is surprising that even a JiffyDOS-loaded drive will do this, but
Commodore equipment is always full of surprises.  :)

I would think that it is a hoax. However, that does not mean that
a product such as "C=Scape" is impossible. I'm sure you could get a
pretty mean-looking web-browser running on a 20 MHz 65816....

I have something that may fit into this discussion:

 i just wrote a little (but fast) assembler in GNU-C i named 'luna'. It took
less than half
 a second to assemble a 2500line-assemblersource (on my P100), is that fast
enough ? :-)

 The source-code is available (about 1000 lines of C) so you can make
modifications
 if needed. It runs on every UNIX (or linux) plathform with GCC (gnu c-compiler)
 (just type "gcc -O2 luna.c -o luna" to get the executable)

on a 128 but i do not have the startup disk for it
