`2Program start`
There are three methods to start GeoDOS:
_____________________________________
# Double-click on the Program Icon f
rom the
Desktop
_____________________________________
# From a running Application choose the file
^`1BootGD` from the GEOS menu.
`321*** A T T E N T I O N ***`
`321Running the Desk Accessory 'BootGD' from an
`321Application allows no possible method to get
`321back to your Application. Always 'Update' your
`321file prior to running 'BootGD'. (in GeoWrite you
`321would choose "Update" from the "File" Menu).
_____________________________________
# Via the ^`1GO!-File 'GO/BootGD'`. Thus, geoDOS is
installed as the Desktop replacement and it will
start automatically when leaving an Application.

Further Program flow depends on whether GeoDOS
is installed as a Desktop replacement:

`2Start GeoDOS as an Application`
At startup GeoDOS checks the available hardware.
It will open an information window in which all
results are indicated:
The drive currently being tested appears with the
word 'Test...'. Once the drive has been identified
the drive's proper label will appear along with its
device address for access from BASIC.
This process generally lasts only a few seconds.
If the identification of the four drives does not
finish correctly then please read the section
^`1Important Notes`.
At the lower edge of the screen is shown the
version number of the program.
GeoDOS next attempts to detect if a SuperCPU
is connected.
On the first start of GeoDOS an Info Screen appears
that you can leave with a simple Mouse Click. This
leaves you in the Main Menu then.

`2Starting GeoDOS as DeskTop`
GeoDOS starts by clearing the screen and then
performing the Hardware Test. In order to
complete this as fast as possible the screen will
be blanked. After the Hardware Test is complete
the Main Menu appears.

`361Particulars of "Two Button" Mice:`
If you use a "Commodore 1351" compatible Mouse
you can call up the "Special Functions" Menu by
clicking the right mouse button when in the Main
Menu. If you use a Joystick you must press the
"RETURN" key to access this menu.
`361Particulars with CMD SmartMouse:`
The Middle Button activates the "Exit GeoDOS"
Menu. The right button functions as described
above.
`361General Hints:`
If your Mouse Driver programs any special
functions to the Mouse buttons (Double-Click, etc.)
it can malfunction in the Main Menu when calling
the Special Functions Menu. The special Mouse Key
functions have a higher priority here than the
GeoDOS functions.
If calling a Menu with the Middle or Right button
make sure your Mouse Pointer is not over an Icon.
The Help System is reached by pressing <F1>.

`2The Toolbox`
GeoDOS is able to hold often-used functions in a
Toolbox. Up to 10 of the geoDOS functions can be
easily accessed, no matter which Menu is active,
simply by clicking the Mouse.
When first starting geoDOS the Toolbox is empty.
In order to store Menu functions in the Toolbox
proceed as follows:
# Open the Menu containing the function that you
wish to add to the Toolbox and move your Mouse
Pointer over the Icon.
# Click on the Icon with the left button and hold
it down for approximately 2 seconds until the
'Ghosticon' appears. The Icon is now attached to
the Mouse Pointer.
# Move the Mouse Pointer, and with it the 'Ghost-
icon', onto the Toolbox. The 'GhostIcon' now can
be moved to any of the possible positions in the
Toolbox. Once you have it in the location you
wish it to be press the Mouse Button.
The Information about which Icons the Toolbox
contains is stored in the system file called
'TOOLBOX.INI' on the System Diskette.
In order to remove a function from the Toolbox
proceed as follows:
# Move the Mouse Pointer over the function that
you wish to remove from the Toolbox.
# Click on the Icon with the left mouse button
and hold it down for approximately 2 seconds
until the 'Ghosticon' appears. The Icon is now
attached to your Mouse Pointer.
# Move the Mouse Pointer to a clear area of the
screen and click the left button to remove the
Icon from the Toolbox.

`30D`40101 File : "GD_CBM"
`30D`40102 Controls all functions which
`30D`40103 affect the C64 and drives.
The CBM Functions are already familiar from the
old DeskTop: Diskette formatting, renaming files
Directory Sort, etc...
See Description at ^`1C=64/128`.

`30D`40200 Menu: PC-DOS
`30D`40201 File : "GD_DOS"
`30D`40202 Controls all functions that reference
`30D`40203 PC-DOS Diskettes.
You can only use the PC-DOS functions if the
PC-DOS Disk Drive driver is on the GeoDOS diskette.
See Description at ^`1PC-DOS`.

`30D`40300 Menu : File Copying
`30D`40301 File: "GD_Copy"
`30D`40302 Drives all processes for copying
`30D`40303 and converting files.
For the PC-DOS Copying Function the PC-DOS Disk
Drive driver is required on the GeoDOS diskette.
See Description at ^`1File Copying`.

`30D`40400 Menu : Tools
`30D`40401 File : "GeoDOS 64 V2"
`30D`40402 Main Module with various

`2The Bubbles`
GeoDOS doesn't use any Pull-Down-Menus in the
Main or sub-level menus as you are familiar with
from other GEOS Programs. All sub-level menus are
called with a simple click of the Mouse Button on
an Icon.
All Menu Icons were intended to be drawn as
clearly as possible. However, in order to prevent
any misunderstanding, the Bubbles were
integrated in geoDOS.
Bubbles appear when your Mouse moves over an
Icon and disappear when your mouse moves off
of the Icon again.
An Example:
`40100
`40101
`40102
`40103
The Bubbles describe the function of the Menu Icon
on which the Mouse is currently located.
These 'Bubbles' appear and disappear fast enough
that they won't disturb even the experienced
geoDOS user. However, if the 'Bubbles' do become
an annoyance, they can be deactivated in the
Tools Menu.
