# In the selection of files the only files that are
displayed are those that match the source file
format. Example:
Copy: GeoWrite => PCDOS
The File Selection Box only displays GeoWrite
Documents. If no GeoWrite Documents are found
on the diskette the File Selection Box will be
empty.
Copy: C64-Text => PCDOS
The File Selection Box will only display files
of type 'Commodore, GEOS Sequential'.
VLIR files (e.g. GeoWrite Documents) are not
displayed here!
_____________________________________
# In the file copying process files with the same
file names are deleted before the copying
process begins if, in the 'Options' Menu, the
corresponding option has been activated.
_____________________________________
# If the target Diskette does not have sufficient
free storage space available for the intended
files an error message is displayed.
The free storage space on the target drive and
the necessary storage space is then indicated.
With 'OK' you are presented with a new File
Selection Box or you can return to the Main
Menu with 'Cancel'.
_____________________________________
# All Copy Operations that are designated as '1:1'
will leave the data unchanged when copying
to the target drive.
These Copying Routines should always be used
if graphics or programs are to be copied.
_____________________________________
# Before you copy files you should review the
parameters in the 'Options' Menu. It is favorable
to store the necessary settings in different
parameter files and read these in from diskette
as required.
_____________________________________
# In each copying process GeoDOS prompts for
the Target Drive, Partition and Folder that the
files shall be copied into. If you don't want
to see this query than you can disable this
function with the 'Partition Mode' Icon in the
'Copy Files' -> 'Options' Menu.
See ^`1File Copying, Partition Mode`

`30D`40100 `2Copy Files`
`30D`40101 `2DOS => CBM and DOS => GeoWrite`
These three functions copy files from PC-DOS disks
into the C-64 format. There are three variants:
# PC-DOS Text => C64-Text
to copy/convert text.
# PC-DOS File => C64-File
to copy Programs/Graphics.
# PC-DOS Text => GeoWrite
to copy from text to GeoWrite.
After selecting one of the Icons the File Selection
Box opens. Here you select a DOS Compatible
Source Drive and a Target Drive for the Target
Files. Confirm your selections by clicking 'OK'.
GeoDOS will open the Source Drive and look for
folders first and then for files to be copied. The
entries are then presented in a File Selection Box.
Folders are indicated by a preceding '
See the section ^`1File Selection Box/Folders`
The File Selection Box can indicate a max. of 255
entries (both Folders and Files). If there are any
more files in the folder you can retrieve them by
clicking the 'OK' Icon. This only works if no other
file is selected at the time!
Select from the list the files that you would like
to be copied and confirm your selection with 'OK'.
GeoDOS will then open the Target Drive. If the
target is a CMD Device the program will search for
partitions and folders. Confirm your settings with
'OK'.

`30D`40101 `2DOS => CBM and DOS => GeoWrite`
GeoDOS now begins checking the files. This will
be carried out in three steps:
# Reading the Filenames. If all of the files are to
be merged into one file GeoDOS will prompt for
the name of the merged file.
# GeoDOS examines the target drive for files
with the same name. If GeoDOS finds duplicate
filenames it either deletes the file on the target
drive, ignores the source file or a Selection Box
is displayed for you to make a decision.
See ^`1Options, Target File`
# GeoDOS determines the free storage space on
the target drive and checks whether all files
can be copied. An error message appears if
sufficient space should not be available.
If the checks terminate with success then GeoDOS
will begin the copying process. The following
information will be displayed on the screen:
# Filename # Number of Files Remaining
# Copying activity display # GeoWrite-Page

`30D`40100 `2Copy Files`
`30D`40101 `2CBM => DOS and GeoWrite => DOS`
These three functions copy files from PC-DOS disks
into the C-64 format. There are three variants:
# C64-Text => PCDOS-Text
to copy/convert text.
# C64-File => PCDOS-File
to copy programs/graphics.
# GeoWrite => PCDOS-Text
to copy GeoWrite Documents.
After selecting one of the Icons the File Selection
Box opens. Here you select any Source Drive and a
DOS Compatible Target Drive for the Target Files.
Confirm the selections with a mouse click on 'OK'.
GeoDOS will now open the Source Disk and look
for Files to copy. According to the Copying Mode
GeoDOS displays only C-64 Text/Files (no GEOS
Files) or only GeoWrite Documents (and no C-64
Files) in the Selection Box.
If the Source Drive is a CMD Device you can
change the CMD Partition and Folder via the
partition drop-box.
A File Selection Box appears with the list of all
the corresponding files. You select the files to be
copied from the file list and confirm your selec-
tion by clicking 'OK'.
Subsequently the program will open the PC-DOS
Target Disk and display the available Sub-Folders
in a Selection Box. Confirm the Target Folder by
clicking 'OK'.

`30D`40101 `2CBM => DOS and GeoWrite => DOS`
GeoDOS now begins checking the files. This will be
carried out in three steps:
# Reading the File Names.
GeoDOS requires a PC-DOS compatible name for
each file. How the file names are determined
depends on the settings in the 'Options' Menu.
See ^`1Options, CBM => DOS`
# GeoDOS examines the Target Drive for files with
the same file names. If GeoDOS encounters files
with duplicate names it either deletes the file
on the Target Drive, ignores the Source File or
a Selection Box appears for you to make a
decision.
See ^`1Options, Target File`
# GeoDOS determines the free storage space on
the Target Drive and checks if all files can be
copied. If sufficient free storage space is not
available an error message will appear.
If the checks terminate with success then GeoDOS
will begin the copying process. The following
Information will display on the screen:
# Filename # Number of Files Remaining
# Copying activity display # GeoWrite Page
`321NOTE!
When copying files to PC-DOS disks you must Edit
the File Info after the file is on the PC Disk or
the Date on the file will not be correct.

`30D`40100 `2Copy Files`
`30D`40101 `2C64 => C64`
These six functions copy files between different
C-64 diskettes. They have the following possible
choices:
# C64-Text => C64-Text
to copy/convert text.
# C64-Text => GeoWrite
to copy from text to GeoWrite.
# GeoWrite => C64-Text
Convert a GeoWrite Document to text.
# GeoWrite => GeoWrite
Document conversion/layout change.
# C64-File => C64-File
File Copy (like under DeskTop).
# File Duplication
Copy files on the same diskette.
After selecting one of the Icons the Drive Selection
Box opens. Here you select a Source and a Target
Drive. In File Duplication mode you will only be
asked for the Target Drive. Confirm your selection
with a mouse click on 'OK'.
GeoDOS now opens the Source Disk and searches
for files to copy. According to the Copy Mode,
GeoDOS only displays C64 Text/Files (no GEOS
Files) or only GeoWrite Documents (and no C-64
Files) in the Selection Box.
If the Source Drive is a CMD Device you can
change the CMD Partition and Folder via the
partition drop-box.
A File Selection Box will appear with the corres-
ponding files. Select from the File List the files
that you would like to be copied and confirm your
selection with 'OK'.
Subsequently GeoDOS will open the Target Drive. If
the Target Drive is a CMD Device the program will
look for Partitions and Folders.
With 'OK' you confirm your settings.

`2GeoDOS and Y2K`
GeoDOS has a problem with Dates after the Year
2000.
Since GEOS only uses two digits for the year (the
Info Block shows 2/9/02 for Feb. 9, 2002) there
is no reference to the Century. If this file is copied
to a PC-DOS disk using GeoDOS the Date will be
viewed as 02/09/2030.
That is correct. On the PC, the date is 28 years
ahead. It is possible to fix this using GeoDOS.
After copying your file(s) to the PC-DOS disk open
the PC-DOS System Menu from the GeoDOS main
screen. Select 'Edit Fileinfo' on the File Menu and
adjust the year back by 28.
See ^`1Edit File Info - Date/Time`.
