  5. X-VIEW.CMD is designed to run only as an XOS command.  Its compact code runs in
  6. the ALTLCD BUFFER due to its effective use of various subroutines found within
  7. the XOS-C program code.
  8.  
  9. X-VIEW (cross view) is designed to operate as a front end to the built-in TEXT
  10. program in the Tandy 200.  The purpose of X-VIEW (XV.CO) is to provide the user
  11. with a new and unique capability, found mostly in more expensive computer 
  12. systems.  That is, the ability to open a "window" and VIEW another file from 
  13. another bank (Bank #2), while editing the primary file in Bank #1.
  14.  
  15. THE SET-UP
  16. ----------
  17. It is recommended that XOS users keep .CO and .BA programs in Bank #3, and .DO 
  18. files should be stored in Bank #2.  Bank #1 is for working on the immediate
  19. project.  To comply with this suggestion XV.CO should be stored in Bank #3.  If
  20. you are a frequent user of the TEXT program, then XV.CO should be named CMD>.CO
  21. (refer to XOS-C docs for a more detailed explanation).

  23. The text file to be edited must already have been created, and on the MENU of 
  24. Bank #1.  Place the cursor over the text file to be edited and press F3(Cmd>).
  25. Type XV<enter> and you will immediately enter the cursored text file.  If XV.CO
  26. is named CMD>.CO then press F3(Cmd>) with CAPS LOCK down.
  27.  
  28. THE FEATURES
  29. ------------
  30. By entering text files via XV.CO you give the Tandy 200 the ability to open a
  31. "window" (the lower half of the T200 LCD) while editing.  This is done by
  32. pressing the GRPH + CODE keys.  Once the "window" is opened, editing functions
  33. for the primary file are suspended.
  34.  
  35. Pressing GRPH/CODE will split the LCD, display Bank #2 files, and request the
  36. name of the Bank #2 file you wish to view.  After entering the name of a valid 
  37. Bank #2 file, that file is then scrolled up the lower half of the Tandy 200 
  38. LCD, keeping the upper portion of the LCD intact.
  39.  
  40. As the secondary file is scrolling, the spacebar is used to pause/continue the
  41. scroll.  The ESC key is used for an immediate abort.  When the scrolling file 
  42. reaches the end of the file, or if ESC was pressed, a beep will sound, the
  43. scrolling will stop, and the next key-stroke will restore the Tandy 200 LCD and
  44. return the cursor to where it was prior to pressing GRPH/CODE.

  46. MORE FEATURES
  47. -------------
  48. While in VIEW mode with the scrolling paused, the UP ARROW key will restart the
  49. display of the secondary file (the file being viewed in the "window"). The 
  50. window will clear and the file will begin to display again.
  51.  
  52. While in VIEW mode with the scrolling paused, the DOWN ARROW key will set a
  53. "marker" at the beginning of the current line/paragraph being displayed.  If 
  54. the scroll is paused at the BEGINNING of a line/paragraph then DOWN ARROW will 
  55. move the "marker" to the beginning of the previous line/paragraph (see note).

  57. The window will clear and the file will begin to display again, but from the 
  58. "marked" position rather than the beginning of the file.  Subsequent use of the
  59. UP ARROW will cause the file to display, beginning at the "marked" position 
  60. rather than the beginning of the file.
  61.  
  62. Pressing <ENTER> at the "X-View:" prompt automatically displays the last file
  63. viewed, beginning at the last "marker" set for that file.  If you have not yet
  64.  viewed any secondary files then <ENTER> will gently return you to the primary
  65. file being edited.  To review the last secondary file from its beginning you 
  66. must enter the filename again.
  67.  
  68. NOTE:
  69. -----
  70. X-VIEW allows the position of the "marker" to be backed up one line/paragraph.
  71. This is done by pressing UP ARROW as if you wanted to return to the "marked" 
  72. location and IMMEDIATELY press SPACEBAR, BEFORE the text begins to scroll. 
  73. With the scroll paused, press DOWN ARROW.  Your "marker" will be moved to the 
  74. beginning of the line/paragraph above the curent "marker" setting.  If you 
  75. somehow wind-up "above" the beginning of your selected file then you will have
  76. to exit the "view" and re-enter the filename at the prompt.

  79. WORD-WRAP
  80. ---------
  81. Word-wrap is toggled on/off by pressing CTRL + SHIFT.  With word-wrap off the 
  82. LCD will display more text and show the actual number of spaces between words 
  83. on adjacent lines.  The LCD will immediately adjust to "wrap" or "no-wrap" 
  84. mode, as you toggle between them.
  85.  
  86. IMPORTANT: The SHIFT/PRINT function of the Tandy 200 will NOT word-wrap when 
  87. printing if word-wrap is disabled in the edit mode.  Be sure to enable word-
  88. wrap before printing a document with the SHIFT/PRINT function.

  91. TIPS
  92. ----
  93. Since the top 8 lines of the Tandy 200 LCD are "locked" into place, you can
  94. first move through the primary file and bring some significant portion of the
  95. primary file into view on the top 8 lines, for comparison with the file 
  96. being scrolled.

  98. When in VIEW mode and have the scroll paused, the PRINT key will dump the LCD
  99. to the printer, showing portions of the two files at once.  Depending upon your
  100. printer, the line that splits the LCD will print as a graphic character or a
  101. line of "q"s.
