  1. M107 is a small fairly sparse globular 
  2. cluster. This was discovered by Pierre 
  3. Mechain, a fellow comet hunter who would 
  4. bring his information to Messier to be 
  5. confirmed. While Messier's notes 
  6. mentioned the cluster, it was never 
  7. entered into his catalog. Working from 
  8. his original notes, astronomer Owen 
  9. Gingerich extended the catalog up 
  10. through M109 in 1954
