her father, the king of Argos, after it was prophesied that he would die at the hands of her son. Zeus comes to her in the form of a golden shower, and Perseus their son is conceived. The scene is set against a backdrop of classical architecture which
opens onto an imaginary city, filled with buildings in the style of the Italian Renaissance.
