\pard\ATXts240\ATXbrdr0 Licinio, an Italian painter of Bergamask
origin, trained in Venice, taking the late works of Bellini and Giorgione as his model. He quickly specialized in compositions with profane subjects, showing a preference for half-length representations, such as the \i Woman at the Spinet between a Man
and an Old Woman\i0 at Hampton Court, and portraits. His earliest dated painting is the \i Portrait of a Girl\i0 in the Budapest Museum, which was followed in 1524 by the \i Gentleman with an Antiphonary\i0 in the York Museum. The best phase in his pr
oduction of portraits came in the thirties, with works like the \i Portrait of a Man\i0 in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. Over the same years he devoted himself to religious paintings as well, with the \i Sacra Conversazione\i0 as the predominant theme.
His last dated work is the \i Portrait of Countess Valmarana\i0 of 1546. His presence in Venice is documented up until 1549.
