\fi0 Along with Michelangelo, the artist frequented the Medici garden known as the Casino di San
Marco, where he studied antique statuary. A pupil of Domenico del Ghirlandaio, Granacci assisted him in the fresco decoration of Pisa Cathedral. At the beginning of the sixteenth century, his style appeared to resemble that of Fra Bartolomeo, although a
certain propensity toward the monumental was obviously derived from Michelangelo. In fact, Granacci went with the latter to Rome to assist him in the decoration of the Sistine Chapel. Back in Florence, the artist was influenced by Leonardo, which is appa
rent in the work of Fra Bartolomeo, as is evident from the panel depicting the \i Madonna della Cintola\i0 , now in the Accademia in Florence. The \i Trinity\i0 for Pier Francesco Borgherini was painted in 1512, and two years later two \i Scenes from th
e Life of St. Joseph the Jew\i0 were commissioned by the same client to decorate the nuptial chamber of his son. In 1515 Granacci worked on the decorations for the entry of Leo X into Florence, while between 1517 and 1518 Michelangelo supplied him with
the drawings for the altarpiece in the convent of Sant'Apollonia, which is now dismembered. Finally, in 1521, he painted the imposing \i Madonna and Saints\i0 in the parish church of Montemurlo.
